It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

wonderland - how 'bout where all of the 954s meet?
As far as the history thing goes, its the paper's anniversary, not the hunt's. So I don't think that would be influence. Besides, Como has THREE schools adjacent to it, Como Elementery, Como Sr. High, and Chelsea Heights school.
Well, golly, I guess that the medallion is hidden everywhere. I'm having trouble parsing what's really happening. Newell, it's not there. People need to find a quarter in the couch and go buy a clue. I've said timeless times that the golf course is imperitive. Sheesh.
Hehe, torpedoes don't really make a blast. Only when they hit things, I guess. I'm really thinking that it's not como, though, people. I can't seem to find anything but a golf course.
Stupid WebX bulletin board.
HEY! PIONEER PRESS! TAKE SOME OF MY TEN GRAND WHEN I GET IT AND FUND A BETTER <CENSORED> BULLETIN BOARD!
Ahem.
Anyone else still going out to look tonight? I think I've got to stroll past Highland.
I know the PP sponsors the hunt. After all, why else would we be on their web site? I just meant that there was no particular reason to be nostalgic about the hunt when it is the paper's anniversary, not the hunt's.
STalion signing on here, I know you're all thinking HP or Como, but in case anyone is still thinking it might be Pig's Eye, don't bother. I don't think the park really exists. I just spent about three hours trying to find it- it's not there, or else I couldn't figure out how to get there. Anyway, if I'd have read the new clue I wouldn't have bothered.
Highland Jr. High is 975 S. Snelling, the Sr. High is 1015 S. Snelling. Last three digits of Jr. High phone number is 9-5-0 (nil). Last three of Sr. High phone number are 9-4-0.
As a Como resident, let me explain how it fits the clues: There is a golf course (of course). There is both sledding and downhill skiing. Where? On the golf course! So again they say stay off! The big Winter Carnival Slide will also be at Como. Como has softball fields and hockey rinks ("Numbers keep score") and the address 954 north goes through Como Park. The Medallion was there two years ago so only someone with real radical thinking (an iconoclast) would think they'd put it there again so soon. And there are three schools adjacent to Como. That is basically my Como arguement.
My feeling is that the latest clue indicates a place of higher learning, so we might be better off looking more specifically at the colleges in the area, esp. HP
Oops, I mean 954 West goes through Como. The torpedo deal is that there is a WWII torpedo in Como Park. Some interpret this as the possible blast from the past.
Matt: I know the phone number thing is a stretch, but I actually won a sweatshirt once by figuring out what phone number played the 1812 Overture, so I was hoping that would again be a lucky approach for me.
Hey MATT... Numbers keep score could point towards a street leading to highland call RANKIN (RANKING)!!!??? 51 runs east west across the north border of highland and 5 runs NE/SE creating a southern border to HP... so 5 and 51 could "adorn the front door" of HP.. somewhere a four + shout = "fore" which tells there is indeed a golfcourse at the park we need to dig up...
IT IS NOT AT PHALEN!!!! THEY WILL NOT HAVE THE MED ANYWHERE WERE THEY CLOSE THE GATES IF YOU ARE IN THE GATES AFTER 11:00 COPS COME IN AND BUST YOU....I DONT THINK PP WOULD CONDONE THAT....
REMEMBER NEWELL PARK IS BY HAMLINE UNIVERSITY!!!!!!
AND EVERYONE IS RIGHT THIS BOARD SUCKS IT TOOK ME ALMOST 20 MINUTES JUST TO GET TO THE UPDATED SH^&*(!!!!HAVE FUN EVERYONE
Allison- You present a strong case for Como, but with the construction going on over there do you think they would take the risk with the possible liability? I think Highland is still where its at. Higher learning off of clue #5.
I suppose now that I've convinced myself it's in Como, I can go to bed. The only problem is that if my interpretations of the clues are right, I have no idea where at Como it might be (except for not on the golf course and away from the action, possibly meaning the Winter Carnival events going on there).
What construction is going on at Como? They were building new pavilions on the picnic grounds and remodeling the conservatory, but I'm almost positive that all that has been completed.
I heard that they were still working around the conservatory. Besides they seem to be such sticklers about the park-would they be willing to allow it to get dug up again? Plus, the hunt started in '52, it was found in a chest at highland. Since this is the 150th whose to say they wouldn't put it there this year. OR they could know we are on to the history deal and this was an elimination clue, much like yesterdays was with Newell. This clue was not very helpful.

The center of the 954's is the middle of downtown, not a park at all. The missle from Como could be a blast, and it is certainly from the past.
HP has 2 schools on Snelling too @ apprx.950 block just north of the "tewes" building w/1928 "adorning" the door
The "missile" isn't a missile; it's a torpedo...

Actually, the missle is a real, disarmed missle, not a statue at all. As far as other 954 intersections, no two 954's seem to come together in a park.
Sorry Matt, you're right, it is a torpedo.
Alice Wonderland the Carinval is sponsored by the Pioneer Press
WOW, SOMEONE MENTIONED THAT IT WOULD BE FOUND IN A KS 95 BUMPER STICKER, BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE WRAPPED IN A GREEN JESSE BUMPER STICKER!
im thrown between HP and Como

this probably is nothing but 9 and 5+4 = 99...what year is it....1999
the 2 schools @ HP are in that "954" area and it is by a church and there are "new" water towers there as well as old ones.?.?.?
I know the PP sponsors the hunt. After all, why else would we be on their web site? I just meant that there was no particular reason to be nostalgic about the hunt when it is the paper's anniversary, not the hunt's.

Hey Matt maybe the "torpedo" points to HP? if it were to launch would it "blast" HP? hmmmmmmmmmmm?

And I'm telling you all, the medallion is hidden in a "Predator" movie case. Just remember, you heard it here first!
lets not give J.V too big of a head:):(

Eagle: Methinks that may be a little overboard, but, hey, it works. :)
Hmm.. Anyone know yet if there's a scoreboard, or anything else that fits in Highland?
What is up with this whole Missile, Torpedo deal?
I "scored" there once?
we be brainstormin' thats all....

any one goin from downtown Mpls to highland park tonight or early tomorrow??? i will buy a pipin hot meal and provide drink...
The Como argument sounds pretty convincing, I'll have to admit, plus Hamline University is pretty close by

eitsaeb: Now *there's* an idea! Let's look in all the parks we've scored in! A blast from the past!

hey barton- were comin from new hope to look @ HP. and arent all too familiar w/ the area! may be in need of a guide? Got BEER?
Nope. No dollars attached to the sweatshirt - just about a million laughs though! I'm hoping to upgrade this year, and find a blue hockey puck...
I'll find us an easy to use permanent web board with more features and doesnt require registering by morning.
Barton- There is a road called Fort, I think it is a street name for Hwy. 5. That could be your 4 & 5, I just cant make out the 9.
gots BEERS!!!
dont have a shovel here though...
