It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Im pretty clear...i just need that one location clue.....i have a great idea of whats it located in! Wait and see.....ill come and tell everybody after it is found or im proved wrong.....so far im right on the whole way! No un clear points....golden go study the park and draw maps and take lots of notes.........!
Dave - you need to go to NP and find the "4" - it's pretty clever of the PP I must admit. Once you see that, and line it up with the 9 & 5, and the other clues, you will know that you are within 50 yards of the medallion.
Treasureman - you peaked my curiousity - I've been begging people to tell me they solved the 9-5----4 thing along with the "adorn the door", you're the first one to actually say you have it somewher other than NP.
9-5--------4 IS THE KEY !!!
I'm goin to bed, when I wake up I'll swing by Phalen. But I'll keep my shovel in the trunk till I see the 9-5------4.
Doctor where are you? Last year you had every clue figured out, and you were right about where it was buried. Doctor Doctor give the news I got a bad case of finding you!
What is everyone thinking after today's clue? Yearning for Learning must mean school - It's gotta be at HP - both Sr. and Jr. high right across the street! Not to mention several other schools and colleges in the near vicinity.
After examining airial photos of St paulparks I have concluded that the treasure is hidden at lanford park four feet north of a point at the apex of the intersection of 9:00 and 5:00 with 12:00 due north.
THE PART BY THE MAGNET SCHOOL, THERE IS A GIANT SLEDDING HILL AND THE BACKSTOPS ARE NUMBERED, AS WELL AS HAVEING SIGNS THAT SAY NO GOLFING, PLUS THE SCHOOL IS THERE, AND THE PART ABOUT SOMETHING OLD TO SOMETHING NEW OR HOWEVER IT GOES, WELL, THE MAGNET SCHOOL USED TO HAVE SOME OLD PORTABLES BUT JUST RENOVATED AND ADDED ON MEW CLASSROOMS
I swear I at least was certain what park it was in by Clue #5 last year! This is a tough one. Newell appears to have the 9, 5, 4 down. Any theories on this at Highland? I've got a friend who's still stuck at Merriam Park...of course, it does have two colleges (and a golf course) nearby.
I think the web server has been down all day long... I read some of the clues .. I spent about 2 hours at Newell Park yesterday.. it is not there .... a lot of people were there and it was dug up a lot.. Has anyone tied in the 5th clue to a park..

well, the iconoclast is someone who attacks settled beliefs, so mabey what there saying is we should not settle on something, we should go for the underdog, and my dad thinks the medallion is hidden in something religous. also, i don't know if there is anything that refers to a hockey rink but there is an ice rink at B.C
Well, here's something to make you think a little. Why does the "yearn to learn" need to be a school building? As far as I'm concerned, the most logical connection would be University Avenue. Another option I think is still downtown. I like Jesse being the iconoclast, and there a few libraries downtown.
Yes I agree with the downtown theory.. what about some of the small parks.. say Mears.. not Rice too much action there....the Capital is consider a park also..... lots of things would make you believe it is downtown.... learning ( libraries , Historical Society , etc ) It is easy to match the 945.. this is what the clue is attached too...nothing more and nothing less.. this is the clue to what the medallion is hide in....ect... iconoclast = Jesse the body duh .....anyone agree with the downtown theory
I believe it is the capitol mall around the Cathedral and the New History museum. That is something old and something new. As for the iconoclast there is a huge statue of a Viking right out side the Four-D building which is on the other side of the Capitol as well. Down on the mall there is an inscription on a war memorial it reads Mathew 5:9. The only problem is the flying down hill, which could refer to cars which you would get hit if too close to the action. The five could also refer to Hwy 5 and then there is Interstate 94 right by there too. Whatdoyathink?
Is the State Capital area really considered a park? I know it has been hidden there before, but I don't think they called it a park, they referred to it as public ground.
Good point.I also thought that the numbers who keep score could refer to the numbering of wars--World War I, II and their respective memorials on the mall as well as the numbering system used to keep track of the names inscribed on those memorials.
I don't know if the mall is technically a park but the area around the Viking is a park. However, it was pretty lonely out there last night so I wondered if I was way way off track. If not the capitol my money is on Battle Creek. Check out the years it has been there before. My buddy did a funky math equation to get the four but the 9 and 5 are pretty apparent.
You need to refer back to previous messages for the reasons why Newell and Highland. I must say these two make more sense than the Capital Mall. After all, it isn't considered a park. It's a group of buildings located by each other -- or something along that definition -- but definitely not a park. Newell - a 9 and a 5 and somewhere a 4 is being referenced as the KS95 radio tower showing 95 but call letters are 94.5. Highland - iconoclasts are "highlanders" therefore Highland Park. If you read previous messages, you can fit both Newell and Highland into the clues. I personally am thinking Highland more than Newell. If, however, Highland is totally out of the picture, then Newell is my second choice.
Maybe we're nuts thinking that it is going to be in a small area (i.e. Newell or Capital Mall). For $10,000 they are going to be expecting a LOT of people out there and they are not going to want to cause the problems of not enough space for all those people and cars. Similar to people digging up Mounds Park in the past, do they really want people digging up the Memorials around the Capital?
I'm in such cunfusion, ya know?

HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED BATTLE CREEK PARK, THERE IS A SCHOOL RIGHT THERE AS WELL AS A SLEDDING HILL, AND THERE ARE NO GOLFING SIGNS ALL AROUND
EVERYONE OUT HUNTING
hear its in a park in garage logic in a cigar box with joe s. picture on it...behold the power of cheese
EVERYONE OUT HUNTING
It could be Battle Creek. Can't you see the airport from the top? But BC is spread out...where?
Sorry Doc Sven...Nobody in GL would bury a cigar box. The empty ones are full of nuts and bolts in the men's crisis center.

"If you're yearning for something worth learning You might be very near your goal"
There are three schools across the street from HP...HP Elementary, Junior High and Senior High. NP is close to Hamline University.
I was diggin' at NP last night. I think it's hidden at NP in something from KS95. Be an Iconoclast...out with the old and in with the NEWell.
HP is my second choice but I can't tie it to the fourth clue.
well maybe the treasure is wrapped in a picture of rookie then
Interesting theory on BC. What about the iconoclast part? Or was a $45 word thrown in to divert attention?
This is 'B' as in B, 'S' as in S...I can't get this posted!

what would the medallion be wrapped in if it was in a garage logic park?....cheese is good for the soul
why newell park...explain the 945 to me

think it is so tough this year because the prize is worth up to $10,000, and they wanna make it difficult

Why Newell? 9-4-5 doesn't fit that park.
O.K., I buy the iconoclast theory, but would the PP PC police allow the medallion to buried in a religous item?

Favorites to date:
1) Highland 2) Newell 3) Phalen
Could also be at Battle Creek or Merriam.
I'll be out there tonight!

I think the 954 are hours open 9-5 during the week and 9-4 on the weekend.
what about numbers keep the score, there is a scoreboard at HP. Why would anyone think it is at Battle Creek? And what about Merriam?
WE NEED MORE CLUES
To The Irish:
Flying downhill could also refer to the fact that in the past the winter carnival slide was in the front of the capital...?

Otherwise, I like the Capital Mall.

Michele Comer, did you see the hours posted on the front door of the building at the park?
