I've not heard a good explantion for clue 5 yet that involves anything more than pulling letters out of it to spell park names (seems rather early for a park name).
Yea,,,I think I covered Kellogg completely,,,but thats not to say I might not end up back there to make sure,,,,,,Allison,,,good memory,,,how are you??? Hmmmmmm,,,,I think it is at Battle Creek, what do you all think?
We'll try to make another appearance at . . . Cherokee. Yes, we're sold for now. Plus, it's only about 1/2 mile from our house, which makes it very handy.
Congratulations. :) It's always nice when it's at a park nearby. Cherokee isn't too far away from me, but I'm just not sold on it. Let me know when you'll be there so I can see your little treasure :)
I'm still leaning towards Kellogg at this point. I don't necessarily believe all these are definite clues but they might be:
Clue 1: Puck might be a hint at XCel. Otherwise mostly the usualy first clue saying it's out there and at least implying it's in a park. I think the first two lines are just meant as a jab at all those in the Cooler Crew who complained about last year's hunt and then ended up abandoning the place once they changed formats.
Clue #2: I think this is saying you can see the Capitol from one spot in the park, but not from where the treasure is actually hidden. This sounds like a pretty accurate description of the situation at Kellogg.
Clue #3: This sounds like it's describing a place in or near the park where you can keep warm and safe from a storm and it's always open. That could well be the hotel across the street from Kellogg. Not sure about the triple E. It seems like it should mean something, but it could just mean "wide".
Clue #4: If the coldest star is the north star, there is a North Star Title just down the street from Kellogg, but it would guide you a bit far from the park. Or perhaps one could believe that Minnesota is the North Star State and Minnesota St. runs into Kellogg. As for the second part, the red, white, and blue that the (American) legions hold dear is of course the U.S. flag. There are dozens of flags on the Wabasha St. bridge which leads up to the western side of Kellogg Park.
Clue #5: Still strikes me as mostly a code of some sort that I haven't quite cracked yet (well I have one answer, but it seems improbable, may check it out first anyway). But if we stick with Kellogg, one might imagine that a great leap could be referring to a bridge and Kellogg has a bridge on either side of it.
A crueler crew WE never knew than those whose barbs have stung us... I think this is the Mississippi RIVER talking...crews of fishermen with hooks with barbs... meaning the RIVER is near the treasure...
I don't think they could actually expect people to follow that logic. While you can say that fisherman with hooks is like a barb, I don't think you can say the word barbs to someone and expect them to picture fishermen. Besides, who fishes the Mississippi? People are much more likely to fish in a lake around here.
#5 Would Cherokee be the improbable part? Or am I way off?
I consider that improbable also, but that's not the same improbable one I came up with.
I do, but you have to think as the cluewriter. If you were writing that clue, would you expect people to conclude that the answer is the river? There are a lot of situations that involve barbs. One could say that the Indians used barbs on their arrows so it must be Indian Mounds. Or that acupuncture is sort of like sticking barbs into someone, and that's something that was developed in the Far East, so maybe we want a park that is far to the east. If you allow the logic to have that long of a leash, there are too many places it could go.
I guess I am breaking my own rule of ciphering too much. But here it is; Tripoli (EEE) the city was created by citizens from 3 other cities. The cities of St Paul,Mendota Hts and Lilydale (3 cities) all intersect at Cherokee Park. Someone touched on this earlier. Your thoughts?
okay, i have no new thoughts and i'm a little bitter. i don't know about anyone else, but i've had nothing but probs w/ the puter today. just wanted to see who was headin' down to the PP tonite. wonderin' if we need to be there a little earlier due to luau taking place tonite. might be a little busier than usual. hope to meet a bunch of people....
I've had it with ciphering for now. I'm going to go take a shower, amke some dinner, maybe check out a park, and then head to my Mason meeting. I'll see some of you at the PP if I don't see you before that.

I think so too allison, i think it's one of those that is dependant on a future clue to make a little more sense

Cipher definition. may tie in with clue # about Crew being Cooler crew and how the computer helps with the Hunt??

I got the sniffles. I'll see how I'm feeling...
heh
Satanic Six-pack Joe
I'm here.
me too (not to be confused with me2)
I think the late afternoon slow-down is upon us. Happens every year, as people either start to head home from work, or head home for dinner.
I've been seeing a lot of Xcel references too. Does anybody know when St Paul was first wired for electricity?
I do, but you have to think as the cluewriter. If you were writing that clue, would you expect people to conclude that the answer is the river? There are a lot of situations that involve barbs. One could say that the Indians used barbs on their arrows so it must be Indian Mounds. Becoming electrified was the first "great leap" I thought of. I've backed off that theory, however.

The Landmark Center was built in 1902. A great leap upward? See: Landmark Center
Planning and acquisition began for Cherokee Park "about" 1903. See: Cherokee Info

Tripoli was formed from the cities Oea, Sabratha, and Leptis Magna, so says the Encyclopedia Britannica.
See you later Allison, have a good one
I got the Tripoli info from a web site in Tripoli on the history of the city. I tried to cut and paste, but the site is copywrited and protected.
I guess I'll see you all tonight, since the clues dont agree with each other.
Jaxon; I thought of Frogtown, too, with "leap"; what parks are over that way?
ahhhh, every single theory makes sense, ahhhh im freaking out!!
It could MS!
