I do hope that medallion is hidden in that park again be it this year or another year down the line. When you get tired of chopping/digging/shoveling there's that beautiful view to look at.
you don't get a taste for it if you don't drink it, lee :)
i must say though there was one time i did have to use a beer to wash the taste of something out of my mouth. me2's husband brought along some orange liqueur crap to football one sunday. we all passed the glass around and as soon as her sister got done rinsing her mouth out with the beer i had her pass it to me to do the same thing.

Medallionators begin preperations for 2003 Medallion Hunt
\09The die hards, rookies, and the fair-weather treasure hunters had all better be ready. The Medallionators, a newly formed team of expert treasure hunters, are prepared to take on their most serious challenge as a team, the Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt.
\09Mike and Don Madland, who found the Pioneer Press Medallion in 1988 at Tony Schmidt Park in Arden Hills, head the team. Jake Ingebrigtson, a relative newcomer to the hunt, adds his expertise of Treasure Hunt history. This past summer, the Medallionators had a 100% success rate in "Mock Hunts", which are hunts created by treasure hunters who wish to keep one another sharp during the summer months. "Don and myself were the winners of both hunts we participated in last summer, and we plan to continue our winning ways in January" said Ingebrigtson, who met the Madlands during the 2002 hunt. Mike, the elder Madland, said "I don't plan on actually hunting much, my job will be to guide Jake and Don to make sure they know the in's and out's of the hunt, and to make sure they are hunting in the right place."The medallion has been targeted for Medallionation" was all Don Madland had to say in regards to the upcoming hunt.
\09Aiding the Medallionators for this years hunt will be "The Medallionator", a 1991 Chevy full sized van complete with a television and GPS system. Watch for "The Medallionator" at the paper for the clue releases during this years hunt.
\09The Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt has been an annual event in St. Paul since 1952 and takes place during the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

It was torn down when I was a kid. It was in the same section that the pool is in now. Maybe about the time I was between 8 and 10 years old...early 60's?
I believe lovers lane was up by the conservatory. There's been so many changes to roads, lots and such that it's hard to remember. Seems to me it was up between the conservatory and the the lake somewhere.
Maybe Lovers Lane refers to that path that goes from the conservatory up along the frog pond to the pavilion type thing where they take all of those outdoor wedding pictures?
Good memory. I had to search the History Center for my answer. That's a good source for serious noodlers. Where did Me2 come up with that? I'd like to see her book collection.
No, the other one on the side of the frog pond. A little less popular.
I was there this past summer and there actually was a line of about 3 or 4 wedding parties waiting to use that particular pavilion. I can't imagine how booked up the Gate one was that day.
Just short of 50 years. If my Dad hadn't been working in Mpls at the time, I would have been born in St. Paul. My earliest recollections are being 2 and living back in St. Paul so I really don't count the Mpls. thing except I was born there.
I can still picture the building. Dark brick. Faced Lexington. If I recall, it was about 4 stories tall. Boxy - no wings or anything.
Master...did you jot down any notes and take any measurements while you were there. Never let a trip to the park go to waste...I hope you brought your guide with you.
I really don't count the Mpls. thing except I was born there
Same here Ter. Not proud of it of course.
.....Hey! Quit looking at me like I'm the friggen elephant man or something. I am not an animal, I am a St. Paul guy now!!! Please put down your torches.
I have always loved that park and how it looks out over the river and the city.
It's kind of funny how I brought up that exact intersection as being Clue #1 in another thread somewhere.

that is a nice photo CM-neat how the road goes in front of the mounds-close to the bluff.
I think I would be nervous of Indian spirits lurking in my car -watching me 'neck'
I wonder how many cars slid off the cliff until they changed it?
Ares, you do get a taste for it. In high school we preferred Bush beer for $2 a six pack.

"I wonder how many cars slid off the cliff watching you makeout"
hahahahahha
CLUE #2 Me2 Saint Paul Park Trivia
The city's workhouse was located in the park
and every year about 30 inmates planted trees
and shrubs, established lawns & flowerbeds.
This is a big clue that all treasure hunters should know
yes it was orange. mixed with vodka.

"The Medallion Has Been Targeted For Medallionation"
now that's a much better written press release, jake.
triple-9 joe.
and since i'm here i'll take this joe too.
Thank you, it was meant to be good and was written when I was sober.
My writing skills are actually very good!
Of course I have been known to tip the bottle before class.....
that's nothing. i went to college with a guy who'd tip the bottle duringclass. at least during finals anyway.
I never said I didn't do that, I just would rather not admit it.
hehe.
The workhouse was located at 1165 N. Lexington
I remember it being there too. Does that date me? I guess it does.
So when did they tear it down? And where was Lovers Lane?

You mean the Gates Ajar?
Good memory. I had to search the History Center for my answer. That's a good source for serious noodlers. Where did Me2 come up with that? I'd like to see her book collection.
actually given the state of remodeling their house is in, i'm sure she'd like to see her book collection too :)
You mean I had the dates about right or are you commenting on the fact that I could remember at all?
You mean the Gates Ajar?

That you remember at all. I'm sure your dates are accurate. What a long time resident!

Steve, are you going to bring guides to the pre-dig?
good question. cuz mine's kinda in need of replacement.
Why of course, Kids. Just curious, did the dissintegrating ink finally do its trick and now you need a new one?
No the "hell of a lot of use from lots of mock hunts" did it.
exactly.
Mock hunts.....bwaaaahaa. I prefer crossword puzzles in the off season.
The choco-dipe was a good one.

You've been to Buggs, you figure it out
;-)
I've never been to Buggs.
I just don't understand what medallionation is.
Oh its just a cute little game the boys play.
I just don't understand what medallionation is.
hahahhahha- I have been searching for a definition for 5 minutes now---too funny you should ask!
Does this involve white hoods and burning crosses?
