2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Has anyone been able to find any information about Tony Schmidt the person? Googling isn't helping.

Don Madland, in 1988, at age 8, became the youngest finder in treasure hunt history.

I know, kind of anti-climatic.

I think he was a city council member.

you are right, there really isn't much info on him. Even at the Minnesota Historical website. However, I remember searching for info on him a few year back for the Hunt and somewhere I think I remember reading he was on a city council. but not 100% sure of that.

With the typo in tonight's scramble and the early noodles about codes and ciphers I keep thinking we are missing a entire tack on this hunt. With Clue Eight is it time to look at the whole clue set?

I think so. There does seem to be information hidden somewhere - or not there that one would expect to find and match up - all in the same park without stretching.

I'm going to hit the sheets here pretty soon.

It was nice seeing folks at Gabe's this evening.

BC is the biggest park in Ramsey County with the largest off leash area.

It has a 500 seat pavilion.

Special claim: Due to the effect of mountain bikes on terrain,

mountain biking is permitted only at the Battle Creek Regional Park

In reference to haw and hem - The original cheese wasn't moved, it was consumed.

More new and different cheese was available by moving through the maze. Follow

last year's bike path along the creek to the north area of the park.

You just had to think outside the box.

What about if this "Think Big" really means BC? Many there are in Many a park I think is just a reference to the Pirate Medallions. If you find the right pirate coin that could possibly be hidden close to the medallion then you're close to the "mark" ( the hiding spot!)

Think big and your in the right game. We are in the wrong park, think BIG park BC then we are actually hunting in the right spot? IDK, my noodling is like a dog chasing its tail right now.

Don't like Century Ave/Centurions? Early clues often try to give streets nearby.

Clue #2 is very clear that "triple score provides a clue." Is 3M the answer to this part?

I'm with you! Reading over last night's posts, I was surprised more people didn't react to the new clue the way I did--it's in a big park, ie BC!

I don't remember where I found it. Been a couple years since looking for tony Schmidt park info but I think TS was the chap who undertook the job of annexing Arden hills from new Brighton. I know the original 34meeting acres came to be in 1958, but I have no reason to believe he was the property owner.

I agree, Vino. If I also remember, TS was more of a political guy in the historical context of Arden Hills.

I agree with you on this, MG. I betcha "think big" puts it into a larger park.

TS is pretty big too but the trees are quite boring, for the most part

It may be too early to discuss a pity party , but - Yarusso's?

Typo:'erath' = Heart, Hater - but supposed to be 'There'

My guess is that they are HUMAN, and shit happens. Bummer.

Or that the actual clue was "heartless" and you're supposed to stay away from Valentine Rd.!

I dont't know if it still stands but there is a house similar to it on Hudson rd, on the way to the compost site, that has a VERY interesting garage. I plan on taking a picture of it today. I will post it later if I can figure out how.

To be honest walking around perry and TSP showed potential but I think we are digging too deep into the clues. The CW does throw abstract history but looking back at clue explanations its usually very basic points on the park. Like Jakes post a few days ago "kiss" keep it simple stupid :pbpt: though not US as stupid

I found this on the Charles Perry House, it apparently does still stand....

Charles Perry House

The Charles Perry House, located at 3491 Lake Johanna Boulevard, has been identified by the Minnesota Historical Society and Ramsey County Historical Society as historically important. While there has been consideration of placing this house on the National Register of Historic Places, additional research and community interest is needed.

Charles Perry House is apparently at the corner of County Road E and Lake Johanna Blvd. There is park adjacent to it on the north side of these streets...

I'm about to head out to Tony Schmidt. I assure everyone that truly is the park. There are far too many references to Arden, Perry, and the 1988 hunt for it to be anywhere else. So if we want someone from the Cooler Crew to find it, then the whole crew should head over there. Hopefully see you there.

What stinks about this clue is if you're between Perry and TS... then think big means TS.

If you're between TS and BC..... then thinking big would mean the biggest BC. :eyeroll:

I popped over to the PP boards.... funny people are still thinking highland, Phalen, one guy had some pretty good noodles for Harriet Island. It's a bigger stretch. The clues fit BC and TS the best, but there was 2008 with IM. The earlier clues fit other parks better than IM, then came the Ann bilanski clue (obsure) then the hit you over the head clue - make rounds with what rhymes with grounds. I really hope it's not one of those hunts.

I saw Barefootguy posting in a lot of mundane threads on the new board. Not sure if he's trying to bury a thread there that gives it away or what..... just remember last year- me, Pilotshatguy, and I think 40below did that last year with the macmurray clue trying to sway everyone from Como to BC.... that backfired big time...turned out our diversion park was the correct park. :crying:

Except the year it was at Mounds, the CC was truly split. A number of us were there early, but we couldn't convince the rest of the group it wasn't at Kellogg. There was a bit of a break in the CC after that hunt because of the divided groups.
