2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

HA!!! Love this!

Can't stay, just trying' to catch up on slogging.

Emily's doing the Polar Plunge this morning in White Bear Lake, and I've got to get Natalie a costume put together for a school play next week.

Then girls hockey game this afternoon....

MAYBE tonight we'll get out

Hubby is going skiing today, then will check out BC on his way home. I feel torn--I want it to be at TSP because it's closer to us, but I can see the clues fitting BC very well too! :pbpt:

Out in the park for the afternoon. Maybe see some of you out there!

Well, now my 83% sureness is flopped to 83% wrongness, but until this recent clue, we thought we were really onto something. Yes,no?

We thought Pocahontas Park:

Park is bordered on the north by "Woof dog kennels" and the animal humane society.

On the south by "Brooks Ave". On the West by "Pascal St" which refers to computer interface. And on the East by "Rose Pointe" apartments, meaning the compass rose points East.

Right next to the baseball "diamond" or gem and only ten feet from "Third base" or triple score is a set of bleachers with blue red blue red benches.

The park is littered with walnut trees and walnut/acorns on the ground.

Were we crazy, or did this set up nicely???

Many parks set up nicely earlier in the hunt, but that certainly sounds like it checked the boxes well.

I usually have a perfect set up every year on a park like that which turns out to be wrong.

Sure did line up nicely though. I remember a few years back I had literally every line of every clue matching Harvest Park, right down to an anagram even. Oh well, that's part of the fun.

Wow, that's interesting how well the clues fit that park! It can be so frustrating when the clues fit more than one park, which they usually do.

Damn first I'm convinced BC then with the shakespeare/ arden clue I was convince TS then last night we were at TS before the clue left there to go to BC.... now I'm back a TS.

like the pairs - perry thing

treasure lore- clothes, Don, good luck charm 88 - plus with all the treasure trivia they keep bringing up on the fb page.... they are requiring you to know treasure hunt history to win the prize this year.

I brought this up yesterday -- do you suppose they might actually have 2 medallions this year? 60th year and all. It would be the ultimate cluewriter accomplishment to write a set of clues to fit 2 different parks and have the the crowd split. :ooh:

I had a voice tell me in the back of the head with the hea and haw that they kept on moving the treasure every night. (Who moved my cheese)

It sure would be awesome if they made the announcement that "the medallion has been found... but there's still a second treasure waiting in another park."

I'm not holding my breath on that one, though.

I went out to Battle Creek this morning (even if it is up at Tony Schmidt, I'm not interested in searching there, too far for me to go just on a whim). Even though people have talked about it alot, I saw an awful lot of woods that still hadn't been touched.

I walked up the creek a ways, following along Brookview Drive. Saw a lot of prospective spots, too many really to spend all day looking at.

After a while, I headed out to Mounds and Phalen to try in vain to look for some pirate medallions, came up empty handed again on those. I think I'll just wait for the pioneer press to list the areas they were hidden in, and see if some of this snow melts off. That's probably about the only way to find those things anymore.

I did see a few families out at Phalen looking around, but I think they were looking for pirate medallions more than the real one.

Anyone heard of anybody finding pirate medallions recently? I would have thought by now someone would have found some on accident.

FYI: The streets/parking lots around Battle Creek are polished ice. Any melt today will re-freeze tonight and they are slick. Use caution.

but if it hasn't been posted already, Perry Park from above looks like a 4 leaf clover

Hmm, still out looking for pirate medallions, no luck. Guess if I'm not going to be finding anything, might as well go back to battle creek.

Best of luck to all of the hunters out there. Thank you so much for your support. For those who asked about us today, thanks. We are ok. This is a nice group and I should not have taken so long to get involved.

My mom said she might sit with Thumper tomorrow so I can come out for awhile. I mostly want to be by people, so if anybody would like to slip me a line of where you are, I would like to see many of you then. At this point, I am not really asking for any secrets. I would just like to know what part of Tony Schmitt park to head for tomorrow or where-ever the hoard is heading.

Best...

Well we just got back from Perry Park with the kids, was nice seeing people out there that I knew the names but never have seen the faces (MRMNMIKEY,ClueMaster) I do think its in that park but there is A LOT of ground to cover! With the kids we could only make it to the railroad track passing bridge :pbpt:

Can't wait to get back out tonight, I am thinking the Perry side more than TSP side!

Hunting with an 11 month old is a bit more difficult, as many of you already know. Was a good day. Went to Schmidt, and Battle Creek, just to rule it out. On the way home caught Ice Sculptures and a bit of the parade. Junior's first Winter Carnival.

There is a lot of ground to cover in Schmidt, more that I could have imagined. I went there once for a work-related event in the summer. Along those trails there is a lot of grass and deadfall, hills and ravines. It is going to be quite a search, or quite a lucky find. Nothing is manicured out there. Very tall grass, and lots of dead oak leaves. Lack of snow is not going to be a problem, as I'm guessing this was hidden before any snow fall. It's going to be in some cluster of vegetation.

Waiting for the clue that references the brew that grew with the great northwest. I think you have to be over 40 to remember that slogan.

Random thought I had on the darkest night line. Could they mean you need to go out into the dark night to find it, aka away from the bright lights of the city, aka way out in the burbs?

Or remember the 88 hunt

I hope you are able to make it out and Thumper is okay.

I don't think there are any secrets to worry about, just head out and it's hard not to run into several groups of coolers! I think a lot of people like the "Perry Park" portion of TS.

Mike's advice to other hunters was to "dress warm" and he also believed that his son, Donny, was his good luck charm.

I was at TS today digging up the beach thinking that would be a clever place for a brown hunt. The sand is like concrete though. Feeling confident about TS, but waiting for some more specifics on where in the park. It's so daunting once you're out there.

I gotta believe they take notes where they plan on hiding it, go somewhere else(or multiple place)and write marrying clues. They clearly spent some time by Lower Afton and McKnight.
