2003 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by ares on

Allison wouldn't put it on the highbridge. Marley would put it on the "high" bridge.

Nope the "HIGH" bridge is not a park! ("Peace park" maybe!)

I will always put it in a park. There are so many! So many!

Jake has requested moving up the date of the Mock Hunt because he's going to be out of town for the second half of it otherwise. As the "defending champion", there is some reason to cater to his request. It might not feel like a real victory if the finder didn't get to beat Jake.

I myself will be out of town the weekend of February 28th to March 2nd. I could start it the evening of March 2nd though which is a Sunday night. I think we started it on a Sunday last year too actually. Does anyone have any objections to starting March 2nd instead?

That might work out better for us. The next week my Mom is having surgery so that would greatly limit any hunting we might be able to do.

Well I heard back from Jake and his plans changed, so he doesn't need it moved anymore. Terry was the only other one to express an actual preference for an earlier date. But I guess at this point my preference would be to not make it earlier. It's possible there are people who went away and figured they would check in again around the 8th. I'd hate for them to come back and find out the hunt was already half over unless there had been a strong movement to make it earlier. Plus I think another week of recovering from the PP hunt would be good. I also like the idea of starting on a Saturday because it means the hunt will be slightly further along come the next weekend. Last year I don't think anyone was even in the right park until Sunday night. So I think we'll stick with starting on March 8th, and we'll still have a pre-hunt gathering at Fabulous Fern's that night, starting at 4, where the first clue will be given out.

back and forth
to and fro
I feel like I am on a ship crossing the sea
the hunt SHOULD NOT be catered to anyone including past winners.
You do the hunt when you want to AW. The ones who can participate will do so.

Well the date I picked was somewhat arbitrary to begin with so it wasn't that big of a deal to me. I just thought I'd see what other people thought. But if there isn't a strong desire to change it, then I'll leave it where it is.

You did say however that it WON'T be at COMO or HARRIET or PHALEN? right? ;)
will you please post that in your rules? thanks

Mon, 02/17/2003 - 10:21 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I only said it won't be in Como.

The Como/Harriet/Phalen thing was something someone told me one day while out hunting. They said the park cops told them that the Medallion wouldn't be in any of those three parks (yea right!)

just clarifying ;)

So does this hunt begin on the 8th?

So is it 19 days til the hunt begins!

Mon, 02/17/2003 - 11:33 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Yes, it begins on the 8th. I suppose that would be 19 days.

That's cooler! I'm glad to have another week to recover from the PP hunt though the timing isn't so great for me on a personal level, most everyone will get some chance to hunt and if we get lucky enough to get out a bit, so much the better.

Hiyall!!

Don't know if I've even posted since the ReHash! Been busy - usually just get to slog and I'm off to work or something else.

March 8th will work out well enough for us. We are planning to do the Fitgers thing the following weekend, but if the clues are good enough, one day away will be okay :).

ME2 - depending on what THX finds out his friends are paying, several of the Y's offer classes in martial arts including karate. I don't know anything about them by experience, just have seen them listed in the program guide.

Gotta go to work - is it Friday yet?

You don't have to give anything, but anything people give towards the prize will just make it that much more interesting.

Karate can be much cheaper, and you don't have to sacrafice quality either. You may have to drive farther though. Let me talk to my cousin, he is going for 2nd degree black in a few months!

Thanks *MOM* for the Y thought.

Tim -thats cool- from what I hear it can take 12-14 years to get to blackbelt.

my oldest (age 11) was tested early for her yellowbelt and got it!!!- wow- talk about being proud of our childrens accomplishments!

Those prices are for the National Karate School.

I missed the first part - are you looking for a place to send your kid? My dojo has children's classes on saturday for Yoshinkan Aikido.

If your redbear than why do you have white bears in your avatar? ;)

We signed the kids up at this Karate school- its 'tuition' so we can 'write off' some of the schooling. It includes uniforms and sparing equipment--and the kids testing to get belts-and they can compete in compitions- right now the 11 year old got her yellowbelt and the 6 yr old got her white/yellow stripe belt---they are on their way up- :) as our livingroom is back on the waiting list :(

I just thought I would post what I've told some people already.

The Mock Coin is hidden and has been for a while. The melting snow may or may not have caused me to move it and I may or may not be concerned about it. Just wanted to be fair. hehe.

I may or may not have already found the coin Allison. It may or may not have been hidden well enough. I may or may not turn it in until the last minute.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the kickoff party for the Mock Hunt is this Saturday. Originally I said we'd meet at 4, but I think I'll change that to 5pm instead since I have something else I need to go to in the afternoon. And then the clue will be released at 6pm. I'll see if I can find someone to post it for me online at the same time.

Cool! I am sure Mark has to work that day-but we will both attend.
Looking forward to it :) Except I expect that it will be packed with people- is this dinner (obviously buy your own)? Is there a reservation? or are we meeting in the bar area by the pool/darts?

Mon, 03/03/2003 - 11:24 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I was thinking we would meet in the bar area. I don't think that will be too crowded that time of day.

John and I will probably come but won't be there until later. 5 is a little early for us.

Yes, that's right, the 4th Annual Mock Hunt starts tomorrow! We'll
be kicking it off for those that care to join us with a bit of a
party at Fabulous Fern's in St. Paul at 5pm. Fabulous Fern's is in
the Blair Arcade building on the corner of Western and Selby.
There's a parking lot right outside of it. We'll be meeting in the
bar area.

The clues will come out once per day at 6pm. They will be posted
here and at my Allison Wonderland Yahoo Group. I still won't know exactly what the prize will be until tomorrow, but it should be at least $200 if not more.

The coin you're looking for this year is actually a Winter Carnival
coin from a past year (you'll have to tell me which one). It's
bigger than a quarter, but maybe a little smaller than a half dollar.

The coin is hidden on public property in St. Paul. It's not buried
underground, up in a tree, inside of anything you need to break open
or anywhere near anything electrical. Basically, if you have to ask
yourself if it's wise to look somewhere, the answer is no, it's not,
because it's not there, so remember to stay safe and don't destroy
anything.

There are 12 clues in all and the hunt will go on until it's found.
If you find it, there are instructions included on how to contact me
and you'll be expected to do so as soon as possible or else the prize
may be forfeit.

Otherwise, good luck hunting!
