2008 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by Clue Master on
Going forward the next clues will come out daily at 6pm. They will be posted to the Allison Wonderland yahoo group at that time. They will also get cross posted to the Ableminds site and the Pioneer Press message boards, though possibly a little later.

As of last night the prize was up to $155 based on the number of registrations and donations taken in. One can still register for the hunt up through the release of the 4th clue. The cost is $10 to register and I anticipate the total prize will exceed $200. One can also hunt without registering, but then the prize is just $100. If you would still like to register, you can do so by Paypal to AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com or let me know you'd like to register and I can give you an address to send a check to.

There will be 12 clues, released one per day. The hunt will continue until the treasure is found. The medallion you're looking for is a disc that is white/clear in color, about 2 inches across and half an inch wide. It will not be hidden in or on water, up in a tree, underground, on the side of a cliff, inside anything electrical, inside a garbage can, or anywhere else that would make you ask yourself "Should I be doing this?" Once the treasure is found, call the phone number on the back right away, any time of day.

Clue#1

The hunt has begun, thus clue number one
Should hint at where the treasure hides
Best not to spill all, but let's say St. Paul
You can even find it in all your guides

Just look for some trees, not many of these
In any park so you're well on your way
To focus your vision, use some precision
Be counting from the start for the big pay

Clue #2

Some remedial math puts you on the path
Begin the equation by starting with a trinity
Count another two, then one more will do
Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity.

Clue #3

To be rude and abrupt, or even corrupt
Puts you on Santa's naughty list, not nice.
But this is the day you will find your way
If you can keep our vagueness on ice.

Clue #4

Stay true to your mark and look in a park
Where one can see land both low and high
Though it sounds funny, you’ll be in the money
If you lay bets mixed up and know why

Clue #5

It’s to the hider’s delight when the weather is white
As it keeps a buried treasure from view
But not all is on the ground, you should look up and around
And to the white add some red and some blue.

Clue #6

Rid of the fan, he ran and he ran.
There’s no doubt he was quite a talker
Mother Nature’s beau- the lawyers said so
Post finish, still serves a walker

Clue #7

Look and you can see most beautifully
A skyline with a splendiferous view
But that’s not enough for foes to rebuff
Play this clue right and you can score too.

Clue #8

Cheer up if you're lost or sensing exhaust
I promise there will still be more clues
Perform to your peak, and for what you seek
Watch for those who are playing the blues

Clue #9

No hunt for grandpa, get rid of the blah
This game is for those of a hip age like Reggie
He found the jewel hidden in Newell
So follow his lead and be a bit more edgy

Clue #10

A heritage to share will get you mostly there
As one should know what flows in one’s blood
And though it be punny to say it’s not sunny
Dig where the moon struck with a thud.

Clue # 11

On Indian grounds, and I don’t mean Mounds
Is the park that will take you to greater heights
There you’ll have to go and look through the snow
And soon you will find something that delights

The sign of Gemini you will have to spy
Keep asphalt never more than a few strides
Find just the right tree, it lines up you’ll see
And then you will conquer where it divides

Trinity being one being (God) with three beings within that one is the religious take on the word.

It could be churches - but that's a bunch of churches near a park.

He does choose his words carefully - but sometimes that can fool ya.

What if it's 3rd St? Then by adding 2 more and then one more, you would be at 6th.

Putting two and two together, what park would one be near?

Swede Hollow? I would like that better if it added up to 7th St.

mears is on 6th

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 4:57 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

Start with 3rdSt= then another 2 streets over gives you 4th st. Then one more = 5th st. Think of it another way is start with 3, then add 2 more=5 plus one more =6th st. Put 2 and 2 together makes it 5th st and 6th street (divided by park) gives to Eastview Park (eastview rec) on east side between kennard and flandreau bordered by 5th st, intersected by 6th st

Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:00 PM Permalink
Terry

That makes sense too.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:03 PM Permalink
Terry

So now clue one says to start counting from the start....

So what is it in clue one that we add to this mix?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:04 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

count 25 paces into mears?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:08 PM Permalink
Terry

I keep thinking, too, about the Trinity thing you posted earlier, Kitch. I'm not sure where that takes us, but it is good information if it fits somewhere.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:08 PM Permalink
Terry

Or Eastview?

Good thought!
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:09 PM Permalink
Terry

If one were to take 25 paces from any corner at Mears - would one end up in the middle?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:10 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

count 25 paces into mears? Look for the trees (not many) and on the ice?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:10 PM Permalink
Terry

It must be near a path that you would take into the park.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:11 PM Permalink
Terry

That sounds good, Mikey - but could it be that easy?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:12 PM Permalink
KITCH

is eastview in the thg??
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:18 PM Permalink
OT

I think the number is 124. First, add up all the trinities and you get 12. Then, two and two together is 4. First 12, then 4, 124. I have no idea what that means other than paces on a path maybe.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:20 PM Permalink
Terry

It is in the 1996 version I have handy.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:21 PM Permalink
Terry

Maybe it's an address, OT.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:21 PM Permalink
OT

Good idea, Terry.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:23 PM Permalink
Terry

The write up in the thg for 1996....

Located on the east side. Near Harding Hight School, Sheridan Elementary and St. Mary's School. Big lilac bushes on the south side of the fields. Alley separates the park from homes on the north side. There's a special scoreboard near the horseshoe pits used by the serious players.

mrmnmikey

Nice noodle OT.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:23 PM Permalink
OT

Maybe "precision" in the first clue means there's a Precision Auto nearby the park.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:24 PM Permalink
Terry

So maybe horseshoe pits would fit the focus your vision and precision thing?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:25 PM Permalink
Terry

Or some optical place - eye doctor or a place to purchase glasses.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:26 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

I think the adress numbers would be around 500 or so for the N/S streets and around 1800 or so for the E/W streets.

My book mentions the bushes but not the score board.

Scoreboard=start counting?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 5:26 PM Permalink
Terry

I need another clue.

As always. Still waiting to see some people like Me2, Brass Monkey and some others that mentioned they wanted to participate but haven't actually registered yet. The deadline is the release of the clue tomorrow.

"If you can keep our vagueness on ice". Why "our"? Why not "my"? Are we missing an anagram?
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 7:29 PM Permalink
Terry

That's a thought OT. Jake is taking part of the clue writing so that's how I took that phrase - but who knows.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 7:33 PM Permalink
OT

I didn't realize Jake was in on it too. That probably explains it then.
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 7:36 PM Permalink

I didn't know either, but someone mentioned that at Fern's the other night.
