2008 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by Clue Master on
Going forward the next clues will come out daily at 6pm. They will be posted to the Allison Wonderland yahoo group at that time. They will also get cross posted to the Ableminds site and the Pioneer Press message boards, though possibly a little later.

As of last night the prize was up to $155 based on the number of registrations and donations taken in. One can still register for the hunt up through the release of the 4th clue. The cost is $10 to register and I anticipate the total prize will exceed $200. One can also hunt without registering, but then the prize is just $100. If you would still like to register, you can do so by Paypal to AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com or let me know you'd like to register and I can give you an address to send a check to.

There will be 12 clues, released one per day. The hunt will continue until the treasure is found. The medallion you're looking for is a disc that is white/clear in color, about 2 inches across and half an inch wide. It will not be hidden in or on water, up in a tree, underground, on the side of a cliff, inside anything electrical, inside a garbage can, or anywhere else that would make you ask yourself "Should I be doing this?" Once the treasure is found, call the phone number on the back right away, any time of day.

Clue#1

The hunt has begun, thus clue number one
Should hint at where the treasure hides
Best not to spill all, but let's say St. Paul
You can even find it in all your guides

Just look for some trees, not many of these
In any park so you're well on your way
To focus your vision, use some precision
Be counting from the start for the big pay

Clue #2

Some remedial math puts you on the path
Begin the equation by starting with a trinity
Count another two, then one more will do
Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity.

Clue #3

To be rude and abrupt, or even corrupt
Puts you on Santa's naughty list, not nice.
But this is the day you will find your way
If you can keep our vagueness on ice.

Clue #4

Stay true to your mark and look in a park
Where one can see land both low and high
Though it sounds funny, you’ll be in the money
If you lay bets mixed up and know why

Clue #5

It’s to the hider’s delight when the weather is white
As it keeps a buried treasure from view
But not all is on the ground, you should look up and around
And to the white add some red and some blue.

Clue #6

Rid of the fan, he ran and he ran.
There’s no doubt he was quite a talker
Mother Nature’s beau- the lawyers said so
Post finish, still serves a walker

Clue #7

Look and you can see most beautifully
A skyline with a splendiferous view
But that’s not enough for foes to rebuff
Play this clue right and you can score too.

Clue #8

Cheer up if you're lost or sensing exhaust
I promise there will still be more clues
Perform to your peak, and for what you seek
Watch for those who are playing the blues

Clue #9

No hunt for grandpa, get rid of the blah
This game is for those of a hip age like Reggie
He found the jewel hidden in Newell
So follow his lead and be a bit more edgy

Clue #10

A heritage to share will get you mostly there
As one should know what flows in one’s blood
And though it be punny to say it’s not sunny
Dig where the moon struck with a thud.

Clue # 11

On Indian grounds, and I don’t mean Mounds
Is the park that will take you to greater heights
There you’ll have to go and look through the snow
And soon you will find something that delights

The sign of Gemini you will have to spy
Keep asphalt never more than a few strides
Find just the right tree, it lines up you’ll see
And then you will conquer where it divides

Terry

I am thinking the red and blue could be playground equipment - and the white being snow.

Begin the equation by starting with a trinity (3)

Count another two, then one more will do 2x3=6+3=9

Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity 2x3=6

3+9+6=18

or

Begin the equation by starting with a trinity (3)

Count another two, then one more will do 3+2+1=6

Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity 6+4=10

or

Begin the equation by starting with a trinity (3)

Count another two, then one more will do (6, 9, 12,

Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity 12+6+6=24

or

Begin the equation by starting with a trinity (3)

Count another two, then one more will do (5)

Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity (4)

3+4+5=12

or

Begin the equation by starting with a trinity (3)

Count another two, then one more will do 3+2=5, +5 =10 or 55

Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity 2+2=4

55104 would be the zipcode if that is what he's getting at.

This drives me insane. Remedial math if you can figure out the equation.

I had a thought the park might be Langford - but I don't know why I thought that now. That zipcode is 55108.

Dig - I wouldn't doubt that for a minute. We could probably find ways to get most of the pages in the Hudson book to fit one way or another!

On the plus side, it looks like the pot will end up at an even $200.

Allison - the plus side? More dang math?

I am heading for the sheets.

Begin the equation by starting with a trinity

Count another two, then one more will do

Then put two and two together to mark the vicinity.

I get 32222

or 333322

It could be endless or at least fairly easy to make it fit what you wanted it to if you messed with the numbers enough.

Good Job AW

vagueness

noun

1. unclearness by virtue of being poorly expressed or not coherent in meaning; "the Conservative manifesto is a model of vagueness"; "these terms were used with a vagueness that suggested little or no thought about what each might convey"

LOL@filler! I would sure hope there's not too much of that

anybody else catch this?

land both low and high

it's kinda funny how almost every year the Press throws in a line similar to this to try to sway people towards Highland, now we get one in here... confirms to me it's NOT at Highland

the whole numbers thing I'm not even going to mess around with anymore because there's just too many ways to spin it... I like the zip code idea though

that last line in the newest clue really has me thinking... there's something with the way it's worded

and some red and some blue

I was thinking the same thing on the high/low clues.

They never seem to help anything. You can be on a hill and if you look down the ground is low. It can be spun so many ways that it ends up being a worthless clue.

And to the white and some red and some blue

Yeah, he could have easily used Red White and Blue. There was really no reason why red & white needed to be switched around.

Which also goes the way of both the numbers clue along with the high/low clue where there are so many possibilities that interpretations that you make anything work for you.

And if it's just red & blue it would have been written 'Add to the white, some red and some blue'

Hey AW - Is the second 'and' supposed to be an 'add' instead?

Hey AW - Is the second 'and' supposed to be an 'add' instead?

Actually you're right, I didn't even notice that. It should be, "And to the white add some red and some blue".

I dunno though, this definitely isn't going to have me running to a park right now

Maybe it's because I've had so much thrown into my brain with all the training I've had to go to the past three days, but I'm getting nowhere fast with these clues. I'm thinking it will all of a sudden hit us in the face.

On a side note, I did go by Griggs playground today and the playground equipment was indeed blue and red. But now I see the word is add some blue and red. Mixed all those together and you'd get some shade of purple or lilac or lavender.

From 2003 como hunt:

Clue 7

Published on Jan. 25, 2003

Rid of the man she ran and ran,

They say she was quite the talker.

A carpenter's beau----many said so-----

Neared the finish with a walker.

Explanation: Ann Bilansky, convicted of killing her husband, Stanislaus ("the man" means Stan), escaped from jail and hid out near Lake Como in 1859. She was assisted by John Walker, the carpenter many thought was her lover. Both were caught; she was hanged the following year.

It seems these clues are bringing to mind various parks - much like the WC hunt did.

There has to be a tie in somewhere to one park.

I like the Bruch Vento noodle. Makes sense. My first instinct was Hubert Horatio Humphrey. He ran for a lot of offices and he sure was a talker!

Vento Nature Sanctuary isn't finished, but it has walking trails....

There's an excellent spot to go check out there...

Bruce Vento makes me think Swede Hollow and Cherokee. Both have high and low land visible.

If we could figure out the numbers thing that would likely be a huge clue.

heh, I thought the clue looked familiar... don't think it's at Como though

I'm going with some tie in to Bruce Vento or the Bruce Vento trail or sanctuary, considering how much he was a champion for the environment (Mother Nature)

I was actually thinking Cherokee before the clue too, just can't tie everything in yet

Mother Natures Beau- Persephone was the embodiment of the Earth's fertility at the same time that she was the Queen of the Underworld, the Kore or young maiden, and the parthenogenic daughter of Demeter—and, in later Classical myths, a daughter of Demeter and Zeus.

I was doing some googling about Bruce Vento Sanctuary and Trail looking for anything that might connect back to the clues. I didn't find much of anything related, but did find this and thought it interesting and wanted to share. http://www.visitsaintpaul.com/DAM_public/7960.pdf

Mikey - that's an interesting observation. I hope they aren't the same.

I want these clues to connect somehow and they aren't. Probably because we haven't found the right park yet.
