"Specific health precautions are advised for sensitive groups
including those with heart or lung disease (including asthma), adults
over 50, and healthy adults and children engaged in vigorous exercise
where they breathe deeply. These individuals should reduce or postpone
heavy exertion (play shorter games, walk instead of run, rotate
players more frequently, etc.) People with heart conditions are especially vulnerable to fine particle pollution."

We are encouraged to carpool, not use machines with small gasoline or diesel engines and NOT LIGHT OUTDOOR FIRES.

Going with the "west end" thought, has anyone thought about looking at the trail that heads towards Hidden Falls?  I think it starts on the west side of the Marina and winds around a curve and down hill.

Camo Crue was at Crosby yesterday afternoon.  They were digging in a grid like pattern near the road not far from the pavilion.  On the edge of that big field.

Here's an interesting noodle on "round the bend" phrase.  A possible diversion away from Crosby?

Velvet Underground Train Round The Bend lyrics

(Reed)

Train round the bend
Takin me away from my country
I'm sick of the trees
Take me to the city
Train comin' round the bend
Oh train comin' round the bend

Been in the country Oh much too long
Trying to be a farmer
But nothing that I planted never seems to grow
Train comin' round the bend
Train comin' round the bend

Hey I am just a city boy
And really not the country kind
Oh I need the city streets and I need your light
To see bend comin' round the bend
The train comin' round the bend

Allright
Ooh Ohh

Once
She's going twice
She's going ?to the loop? up and down
She's going twice
She's going the train comin round the bend
You know the train comin round the bend

And I'm out of nowhere
Takin' me back where I belong
I've been here once and I don't take it tonight
For the train comin round the bend
The train comin round the bend
OOOh Allright!

SnoJester just gave me a good excuse for not going out today.  I was starting to feel guilty staying in.  Now I'm doing it for my health.  :)

But if you figure in two syllable words, the list isn't as short.  For instance, pretend, extend, amend, and on and on.

I guess I'm just going to have to deal with this stomach ache, get dressed, and head out to the park since no one seems to think it's where I think it is.

had to do a song/album search on naked to tie in or elimate things- here is a funny one...

BIF NAKED LYRICS

"The Gross, Gross Man"

he keeps looking at me with his groping, watching eyeballs:
gross! we women, we are supposed to just drop our eyes and be quiet.
just don't look at the gross, gross man and hope he quits ogling.

believe it or not, i want to flip him the bird ya know?

but i don't, cuz we women don't. once i gave the finger to a bunch of
construction dudes, but they were yelling really bad stuff about my "cookie."
it just got 'em all riled up, and then they yelled, "dyke!"
and i had pms so i cried all the way home.

gross, gross man still gawking as i sit here writing... what's he thinking?
gee, maybe i'll invite him up to my sex den and he can fondle my boobies...
yeah, right!

stupid gross man, quit staring! gosh, he just won't let up.
it makes me feel really uncomfortable i wish i could just crawl under a rock!
'cuz we women are supposed to just feel bad about ourselves:
like we're doing something wrong. i'm not! i swear!
being "we women"

LOL crosby baby

I think its on the other side of the marina not as far as the bridge though.

You may be thinking of the wrong bridge. I mean the one that is a little north of the crossroads. I don't think it's by that large fallen tree. I think it's closer to the once blue pond.

Going out tonight a few thoughts-

"Chilled to the marrow"-chilled(frozen)to the bone

"the puck rests naked"- "bone" naked??

I also looked up the folk music connection- there is a group of folk singers called "The Eddies On The River" that work out of the "showboat" the Covington Inn that docks publicly over by Harriet but they sail up and down the river singing and entertaining the passengers-they sing folk music of all kinds and their website lists the songs they sing. They sing "This Land is Your Land" also CSNY, Dylan and Irish folk tunes too- could this be our connection to the "folk music" references? Look up "The Eddies on the River"--hmmmmmm.......noodle noodle

Hmm.

Whoever’s bright idea it was to make a private invite thread for the medallion hunt killed the soul of the cooler crew.

For those of you who do NOT know, the more important (sic) members of this forum are off talking to each other on a different forum, and you have to be invited to their discussion to interact with those that have to date made up what the news, radio, and television refer to as “the cooler crew”. For some reason their idea of community improvement is segregation, and for some reason they have failed to understand the adjectives they have earned for themselves by doing so.

I can think of a few: proud, bourgeois, elitist, condescending, and most importantly, uneducated... specifically in the realm of online community management.

I’ve been around for 8 years(!), and with argument I’ve acted with the feeble posting power I’ve been given to protect what the cooler crew was 8 years ago when I interact with this forum. I have been an agent for the consolidation of facts, a distributor of logic, a keeper of the peace, and most importantly, a protagonist (antagonist?) to the friends I’ve made here over the years.

In my very humble and believed earned old-timer opinion, this place has been ruined and is in shambles. The invitational thread is a death rattle of a once strong community of yearly treasure hunters. The community I understand exists today is indeed strong, but it’s a community of friends, and while that in itself isn’t entirely unpleasant, the natural tendencies of a group are always counterproductive when they go unchecked.

The cooler crew is now a clique. I don’t like it. It used to be a public forum where the smart and the ignorant got together to badger each other and earn our reputations based upon our interactions with the hunt, not with each other at parties and online the other 50 weeks of the year.

I’ve complained about this god awful forum system yearly for many years, and nobody seems to understand that it’s a good reason this garbage has come to pass. This forum type (WebX) is not suitable to handle a community of thousands, and to the dismay of the loyal, it never was. It is impossible to get your point across without repeating your information, and giving constant attention (i.e. clicking “RECENT” or the last post of the forum, thrashing the forum web framework in return) to the span of time near when you posted, sifting through the useless stuff (hi, asl, omfg lolol!!!4444), searching for relevant information. The solution to this could have been wise, with the technically apt members getting into a roundtable to talk about a suitable community engine, or at the least, a real forum that has proven itself to not die, constantly, over and over, daily, always when its functionality matters the most.

Sadly, instead of Doing the Right Thing, the solution was to disembowel the community by removing the cooler crew’s fan base from the cooler crew, reserving a nice private table for their own private chat, hurting the feelings of those left behind and promoting an unhealthy bias. The community that was written about and given enough attention to be a leg of a motion picture is crumbling.

Those of you loyalists, and those of you who somehow think this arcane message board is fashionable, get your head into fresh air. Everything I’ve said is accurate.

The separation of church and state (read: Pioneer Planet becoming something else entirely) has admittedly played a big role in The Problem as well. Their new endorsed forum system is mechanical and awful, and those clever new individuals who search for an Internet forum for the medallion hunt are met with a largely unimpressive and unrewarding experience. This could be remedied by a unified medallion hunting community, but who knows if the comfortable group of friends are willing to roll a dying thoroughbred into the vet. I have personally offered to pay for and train moderators for a new community engine repeatedly in the efforts of saving this place, and repeatedly I get myriad mentions of mixed replies from “we love this forum system, it works great,” to “shut up, you whiner.” I’m not about to try and kick up a renaissance again beyond this note:

If we ever get to a period of prosperity, know that the cooler crew could be unified; the domain owner of coolercrew.com has an open invite to host the domain and all related web content to a unified hosting facility. The same offer goes to the treasure hunter’s guide site, the hunt ‘matrix’ thinger, and anyone else who has hosted a medallion hunting site. I will personally pay for a vBulletin or other workable forum license and train those individuals who moderate this community to moderate a new one. I will personally work with everyone to visually customize everything and install modifications to _enable the community to run itself_. The services I offer are quality, commercial grade services that are reliable and are located in secure facilities, and don’t go down when people use them heavily.

How nice would it be to browse to http://forum.coolercrew.comand know it will not be broken? How nice would it be to have a way to profile important posts from useless banter? How nice would it be to have a free-for-all community photo album at http://gallery.coolercrew.comthat accepts user picture uploads so those candid shots people want to share can be easily given to everyone? How about a cooler crew dedicated live chat? Just about anything you could imagine is possible.

I challenge you to read and react to my message. I’m used to upsetting and annoying people, and I’m not worried about glory hounds who think this is an attempt to hurt them. I’d enjoy seeing something good happen, but seeing as this has gone on for 8 years, I remain grim.

Thanks for enduring my feelings. I believe roots are important, and I understand some of you have grown your own roots in the status quo of the community today, and I’m not out to get you. It’s important to preserve what’s comfortable, but understand that the roots of the cooler crew have been augmented over the years for the worse.

Yours, with the most sincere concern,

-Matt
