Discuss the 2005 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt here.
OT
Bear, I didn't say this thread shouldn't exist. I just was pointing out that to be fair, there should be more posts over there. I understand the need to keep some things from lurkers, or whover. But this thread is being used for most of the every day chit chat now that doesn't cover that category.Â
I have a feeling I'm going to be repeating myself, =(
If you're going to bother reacting to me, react to what I've said instead of what you think I'm saying. Do me the courtesy of reading my posts, then reply. I can make discussion over what I do say but I'm afraid I can't say I'd like to defend what I don't.
Greetings to you all! It looks to be shaping up to be an interesting hunt - I am sorry to be missing it, but my sister down in AZ just had surgery. Finally had a moment to stop by and say hello and good luck to all.Â
The current Air Pollution Alert has been extended through Wednesday, February 2. The Alert now also includes Duluth, where the AQI has been rising. This Alert now includes approximately the southern three-fourths of Minnesota. An Alert means that the levels of air pollution are unhealthy for some or all people (see "HEALTH" below). AQI: At 1 p.m. Monday, the AQI in the Twin Cities was 137; Rochester 120; Duluth 86 (not in alert status but may rise further this afternoon and overnight). POLLUTANT: fine particles (soot). Fine particles have been trapped near the ground by stagnant air; in addition, a large mass of particles is sitting over the northeastern third of the country. See www.epa.gov/airnow/outlook.html
HEALTH: Currently, the AQI remains in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, but is nearing the Unhealthy for Everyone (AQI=150) category in the Twin Cities. "Sensitive" groups include those with heart or lung disease (including asthma), adults over 50, and healthy adults and children engaged in vigorous exercise where they breathe deeply. These individuals should reduce or postpone heavy exertion (play shorter games, walk instead of run, rotate players more frequently, etc.) People with heart conditions are especially vulnerable to fine particle pollution.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO REDUCE AIR POLLUTION DURING THIS ALERT While this event is part of a large regional air pollution mass, Minnesotans can help reduce our own contributions to the air pollution:
* reduce driving when possible and don't idle your vehicle engine (vehicle exhaust adds fine particles to the air)
* postpone activities with small gasoline or diesel engines, which also produce particles
* postpone fires in your fireplace and outdoors, which add soot particles to the air
oh....last night was the first time I really notice the homer and elways signs on my way home....
i bet gannon was there as well.......but that's on the TOP....could it be up on that walking path up there?? its going to be dark soon.....I gotta time this right to get some sunlight to look on a driveby.....
Randy- nosir. "Pay me" or whoever jumped the tracks quite a bit.
Mister Redbear- The ivory tower (there's only one I can think of) was destroyed by the Nothing because all that it stood for was being forgotten over time. The view is rather dismal from the vacuum, I suppose.
kitch. just passed the big cut up tree a ways on the path when you get to the big lake at night you can see the gas station across the lake up the hill etc. that's right where homer is!
Kitch, the "once blue pond" is Fountain Cave. Three miles downriver from Ft. Snelling. It says itt's by Shepard Road and Randaloph, by the ADM Grain Terminal.
Well, that's like no where NEAR Crosby. Ittiz on the udder side o'35E. But... I think that's the once blue pond they're talking about.
It got ishy as the City grew; kind'a dried up. Then something happened with the sewer being put in. I don't know. But at one time there was a huge room in the cave with this cool pool of water. Folks would even take dips in it on hot summer days. Was quite the tourist attraction.Â

FWIW, the open space on the east side of 35e is owned by the port authority, and is currently for sale. There's no easy access to the land either, at least as far as I know, I doubt you can get to it from crosby, possibly via the upper trail that follows shepard, but I'd be careful even on that option.
"...Create an online community for the 12 days of the Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt if you feel that it is necessary to keep out the hellos and how are you doings....even the joes if you must....But if you need..."
My mistake, then, the royal 'you,' perhaps?
The point was realized before being made, I don't question the fellowship this place has generated. Please don't assume that.
Redbear- And, my friend, I was making an allusion out of your sarcasm, but since you seem to think that long posts are arrogant, I wouldn't discredit your missing the illustration.

are the elevations similar or could they have used the upper for irrigation back in the day?
Yeah, I'd agree with that OT. I'd say that we have an invitational thread that only starts up around hunt time 2006.

There are people hunting up on that top path, Kitch. Just not too many.
Randy- nosir. "Pay me" or whoever jumped the tracks quite a bit.

And that would be the east end. Not wend.
refering to Pay Me....
From what I can tell she wasn't talking specifically to anyone.
She was saying what she felt about those who do chat, talk and share every step of their lives here at PF through out the entire year.

Â
you took nick that far....wow...
Terra Server shows it SE of the midpoint between Upper Lake and Crosby Lake. There are also more ponds on the other side of35E.Â
I don't think she jumped any tracks.... in fact you seemed to have missed the point she was making.
People talk here. That what she was doing.
I just found out that old man crosby died in 1886.
The first winter carnival was 1886.
Do others know this? or am I finally in front of something?
oh, nice noodle
now see I gotta go cause Mark just brought groceries home and I SHOULD help bring them in and put them away so I can get out to the park today -
this post tells most of you that I will be out in the park soon ;) - and giving RedBear a warm fuzzy boost for a nice noodle :)
Matt, actually I was refering to you being intellectually smug. But I suppose you would have known that if you actually *were* intellectually smug.
