OK, I admit it. I went down to Crosby Park the other day and I poked around. So what? There's no rule against it. As a law-abiding, taxpaying citizen of St. Paul, I have just as much right as the next person to visit one of our parks.
I have said it before and i'll say it again. This hunt belongs to the Pioneer Press. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the more people complain, the worse it is. To say this hunt was unenjoyable.......COME ON!!!!!! To bring us to the right park after Clue No. 2 and have us scratch our asses! How much more fun could someone have! I was within 100 yards after Clue No. 4, and was within 100 yards every day until it is found. It sucks when they don't take you right to it, doesn't it? It sucks when you have to try and think like the cluewriter, doesn't it? One last thing i'd like to say to everyone..... DON'T BITCH, IT ISN'T YOUR HUNT. Enough said.
The addy is on the "no time for cold feet" thread page, i just pulled that up on mapquest... havent been there myself, so not sure... sorry... wish I could help more. :(
I hear ya Kitch. I just didn't think they would give us that much information on Clue No. 10. I am not at all dissapointed, I put myself in a good position to find it. If IÂ keep doing it i'll turn it over one of these years.
I'm glad the hunt ended when it did because I had to go back to work and now am drafted to work 12 hours on what would be clue 12. I do have news about my job. They cancelled the lay off for good and are actually calling people back that have been laid off for over a year. Seems the new whiterain packaging is "selling like hot cakes" according to our plant manager. They really messed with a lot of lives for a while there and still are in a way, but I am releived that I still have a good job.
I hunted with more people in the cooler this year than I ever have and it was great. I'm sorry that I don't know more of your names, but will keep trying to meet the ones that I don't. I got to use the Hoebow thing I won last year at the re-hash bash and it worked wonders. I was as close as I ever got to finding the puck this year, and that icludes when I was next to Cathi in 2001. I was hot right off the bat and really regret not searching that tree better. Oh well, move on...
Went back out to Crosby today, met an elderly guy who was looking at the medallion location. Got a lot of interesting history on Crosby from him, apparently he'sbeen around crosby since he was a boy, even knew what the park looked like when it still had pastures instead of the forests we now know are there. Apparently he helps keep some of the trails clear of debris and stuff out there during the year as well.
We both agreed on the final location, as described by the clues. Here's a shot I took of it. Hopefully I'll get more confirmation of the spot From the crew.
me2: Go west on 94 to Huron Street exit. Go north on Huron Street and turn left and go west on Washington Avenue three blocks to Oak Street. Turn left and go south on Oak Street a half block and you will be right in front of the Oak Street Cinema. I used to be a University student so I know that area well.

The official clues just tell you to head south from the middle of upper lake, not quite as sure on a trail. Only other huge tree I saw was south of the trail. The location map given by the press puts the final location barely north of that trail, and in the same area as the stump in the photo there. The piece of tree is rather deceiving, it was pretty large, and I was looking for some piece of bark with a few holes in it from an ice pick, which that one did have some holes. Apparently the guy said the stump there was twice as large as it had been before the overzealous hunters got to it...
Anyways I was figuring I'd have to go over it with everybody at the rehash anyway, just getting in some scouting. Perhaps I'm not in the right spot, just one that seemed to fit what the paper was saying.
Did anyone call Joe and tell him the correct year the treasure was found under the mail box on Robert & 7th? He was saying it was mid 70's sometime. Figured I'd hear one of you guys already giving him the correct year.
Damn! I knew it was at Como!!!!

I thought I was NUTS!!! I didn't tell anybody!
You should have thrown jacket over his head, and then tossed him in the trunk of your car, and drove around yelling "I GOT A JOE!!!!"

see what lack of sleep can do to a guy....

I think Kitch is still slogging up the mess in the other threads lol
Newbie....I totally agree it was a good hunt.....we just over noodled ....shame on us.....
You know darn well if all of us would have "listened" to clue 10 we would have found it.....we just didn't want to......
Â
Like I've said .....I've learned 2 big lessons....
1)Dig where I like and Dig there until Its done
2)Its o.k. to dig where somebody else has dug.
Â
For the record.... I never scratched my ass in Crosby park.
Not much...just realized My work day is over.....need to go home soon....

We know that we were all in the right area.
Next year we'll just have to finish it right.
Not this year anyway.

I thought it was a great hunt.
Of course I've thought so since the begining.
I don't think thats it
I think it's that one just north of where the paths meet.
