Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

Yeah, I can make one, the problem is stripping out the lead vocals can be a problem. Nothing ever sounds quite right when you run it through a stripper. (Stripping is done by taking the left stereo channel, phasing it backwards and slapping it over the right channel which effectively cancels out anything that is equal on both sides. Unfortunately, this generally takes out a good part of the drums and bass as well. :frown:

I *DO* know someone who makes karaoke songs specially, but they're $80 - 150 per song to have special made. There's no single songs I want that badly. :eyeroll:

The reason EVERYONE went the wrong way is because the second a group starts to move because they got the clue first everyone else moves to and assumes its the right area before they get the clue then when they get the clue they block out the fact that there is a whole nother playground on the half of the park that the FLAG pole was on! Oh well note to self for next time think for 10 seconds before jumpingto conclusions...they did it on pupose though knowing everyone would assume the side with the regular foot bridge

What happened to the breaking up into zones idea?

we were in zones before the clue. It's what happened after that screwed us up.

that and the fact it was found before the clue came out :frown:

no one knew or spoke up on the conference that the west playground had a children's footbridge until much later if at all. if it had been obvious what zone it was in, it would have worked.

personally, I want to go back and see the footbridge, and then see what looked like a childrens footbridge to me at the east playground and differentiate. it was a very good clue though, because in my head I heard footbridge twice and it's only there once.

I couldn't figure it out. Never found the area.

Today, with the clue in my hand.

What part of the park do you mean by the east playground? There was a playground where we were that had a footbridge on the apparatus But that bridge went east to west and the houses through the trees were to the north.

We parked in that lot off of Dale because I thought it was going to send us in a direct line from the flag at the American Legion into something in the park.

That part is what I am talking about when I say east playground. Does anyone know if the footbridge at the playground off lex is the same as the one that goes east/west in the playground off victoria?
Fri, 02/02/2007 - 4:34 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

oh and I know what you mean about the lining up. what I did in haste was used the platforms of the playground because they also looked like a bridge because the actual footbridge didn't line up.

:sheepish:
Fri, 02/02/2007 - 4:35 PM Permalink
OT

Isn't that the footbridge the clue was referring to? The one on the playground?

I'm not sure where exactly it was found, but I thought I read/heard that it was lined up with the playground bridge thing.
Fri, 02/02/2007 - 4:38 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

No, it was found on the other side of the lake, lined up with another playground footbridge. that's why it was a good clue and why a ton of (majority I think) people were in the wrong spot.

conference call ROCKS!!!!!!

I told one of the finders I was glad they didn't say they found it 10 minutes before that last clue. Usually I would say "just show it" but in this case, all that fun planning out the race and the conference call would never had been as fun. She said they were somewhat afraid. I think its because there were so many people and it was dark out AND keep in mine all the aweful mean things they probably read on Twincities.com AND what if they heard about the damage done to that retaining wall and saw that fight at the entrance. I don't blame them this time around. I didn't personally see any violence but wow, did I hear about the boards and the fight and the damage by the police. I'm glad that the CoolerCrew got along for the most part and things ran smoothly for us BUT, in reality ... human nature was showing its bad side out there this year compared to the last few years. :frown: - I hope it doesn't get worse or continue next year- maybe the troublemakers will grow up.

Ah ha! That is why I never realized there was a footbridge in the Lexington playground. It doesn't remind me of one. The one on the Victoria side looks like a little footbridge with a tunnel under it.

I used the footbridge to stabilize this night shot. What tree was it found by? I know is was fairly close to the fence.

I was out there early this morning (the park wasnt officially open yet... shhhh!).... the tree is pretty easy to spot, when you're there....

I dont know how one of us didnt get it earlier...

I thought that I had hit every tree in that section, a couple of nights before it was found....

The Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt may be over, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until next year to put all those treasure hunting skills to use. The Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt is coming up March 1st! The Mock Hunt is similar to the Medallion Hunt, but with a few differences. For one, the you'll be looking for a big blue (plastic) diamond instead of a medallion. The Mock Hunt is specifically limited to public property in St. Paul. And of course the prize is a bit smaller. But it will still be made up of 12 clues released once per day. However I will be releasing them at 6pm instead of 11pm.

As for the prize, there will be a registration process. If you'd like to be a registered hunter, it costs $10 to participate and then you can win $500. You can still hunt, even if you don't register, but then you would win just $100. You have until the 4th clue to register. If there is any money left over after the prize is paid out, I'll contribute it to the prize money of whoever does the next hunt. You can register at the Rehash Bash this Sunday. If you can't make that, I will be hosting a special comedy Hypnotist show at my Mason lodge (the same place the Rehash will be) on Saturday, February 17th. The tickets for that are $15. And then you will have another chance on March 1st when we meet at Fabulous Fern's in St. Paul at 7pm in the bar area to have the kickoff party for the hunt and the release of the first clue (which will be at 8pm that night instead of 6). If you can't make any of those and still want to participate, you can send the money to me via Paypal at this email, or send me an email and I'll give you an address to send a check to.

Again, you will be looking for a big blue plastic diamond that will be hidden on public property somewhere in St. Paul. It won't be underground, on a lake, stream or river, on top of a building, up in a tree, close to anything electrical, inside of anything you'd have to break to check, on the side of a steep hill, any of the places the Medallion hunt ruled out, or anywhere else that common sense might make you question if you should really be looking there.

Clues will be posted here, on the PP board, and on my Allison Wonderland Yahoo Group each day at 6pm until the treasure is found, up to the limit of 12 clues. If no one has found it 24 hours after the last clue has come out, I reserve the right to call you all a bunch of lame-o's, but the hunt will continue until it's found.

I believe that should cover everything, so good luck!

How many people typically participate in AW's mock hunt? I've always wanted to participate but crap always comes up and I miss out
Sat, 02/03/2007 - 8:01 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

It's varied. The first real one I did, I think maybe 4 people participated. The next year, after the Merriam hunt ended so early, I must have had 100 people working on that one. Last year I think I only had 20 some people registered, My guess is this year it will be up again and we'll have 30 or 40. And since you get 50 times your investment if you win, the odds are actually in your favor!

The funny thing is that when the clue came out I went directly to the playground on the west side and followed Mucky's directions to the letter. I was even at the tree where it was found. I can only dream what it would have been like had they not found it first. When I saw the pic of the tree where it was found I wanted to die. Probably the one and only time I will ever be right on the spot and the medallion was already found. Oh well, there is always next year. See you at the Dance and RHB.

hello everyone.I wish I could make it to the re-bash, but I must go to my son's par-tay! Like he said we have a super bowl part going on and relatives have arrived from out of town. Rob (brass monkey) would be so upset with me if I snuck a way to go to the re-bash. There is not an excuse in the world he would believe if I didn't show up early in the day. :frown:

As far as the CW I had a few ideas that I thought fit even though CW didn't admit to them.

1) Over hill and Dale = must travel over Dale street which would elimate any part of the park before Dale , ie: saying travel to the west end of the park. This was assuming the CW was bringing us up 35E.

2) Wild and Tame = over and above the obvious of the wildlife center, the Lions Den shelter is Wild = Lion

Then the horse shoe pits = Horse = Tame

That was my thoughts

I'll be checking back throughout the year even though Brassmonkey might not.

Again Thank you Red Bear for the conference call it was a fantastic idea and it was done without a hitch. It was nice meeting everyone.

I'm sorry if I offended any one with my caps earlier, this is the only forum I have ever been on, and I didn't know better.

Have a great re=bash I'll be there in heart!

Oh I forgot to say I also thought that Flora with growing pains did indeed mean Roseville.

My reason was that Roseville's name before the suburb grew up and became Roseville, was named Rosetown. This was years ago when my Grandparents first lived there.

Rosetown grew up and became Roseville! CW doesn't admit to that but it does make perfect sense to me.

We also have a Superbowl/Birthday party planned and those different guests (our close friends) will be arriving on Sunday before my Inlaws are gone, what a mess :frown: . I feel like it is the Chevy Chase christmas vacation over here  I hope everyone has fun and I will have to try and participate in one of the mock hunts this summer.
