2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

I know queenmalley brought up Harriet a couple of times.I've written off Harriet Island because of the fact there is little snow are there aren't any woods, but the guy on PP board got me thinking.

Think big (philosophy) Plato blvd

dog= Shepard Rd

2 nut references= chestnut, butternut st

opportunity knocks= Prospect rd/terrace

brook=mississippi

make book= west publishing

Romans= bath houses

trackin=train tracks

up= upper landing

As You Like It-"All the world's a stage"= stages on Raspberry and Harriet plus the riverboat theatre.

I know it's probably not - just thought it was interesting. I'm hoping the 1988 clue 7 is not a red herring.

For the record I will be at TS today....unless someone talks me out of it.

From what I remember... it seemed everybody was at como digging up the pyramid boxes covering the fountains on clue 8 so for everyone saying they were at BC early that hunt- i'm not buying it. Everyone was all over the map that hunt.

Yea, we got burned on leading people to the "wrong" park last year. This year i'm all about shamrock (which fits the Arden Hills and munitions plant cluea quite well). That and being a general ass/smart ass.

Ha, i also signed up for that Youngtimer's board just to make posts suggesting people go to the PP boards. He tried to ban me after only 7 posts. Good times

As for the hunt I'm ththinking TS probablly not far from the picnic grounds. Is there anything involving circles or dogs out there? I haven't got out there yet and not sureif or when i will

I'm not 100% sold on TS, but I'm atleast going to check it out (as I've never been there) maybe once I'm there I'll feel it.

Let us know! It's a far drive for me, and I am really not sure which area to focus on. Odd for a 7th clue.

ooopppss, I mean 8th clue! Even odder....

I was looking at Harriet due to the Box+Don= Don Boxmeyer's chapter all about Harriet Beckons Anew. Other clues fit as well, but I shudder at Harriet due to being stung during the "Horton Hears A Who" year and I feel St Paul is very protective of Harriet and some Hunters aren't respectful diggers. It hasn't been at Harriet in a very long time.

That's a good one about Roman bath houses, BTW.

Well, I tend to side with AW on his pick of park. It's just such a long drive for me. Go get it Crew!

The one thing to remember is that the clues might just be saying park, park, park, park.... And not saying where in the park.

Just slogged around TSP for several hours. I still feel like I'm chasing my tail! Nice park, going to have to do more exploring there. I admit, I've never met any of you in person, so I wouldn't know who to say hello to... :frown:

Just got back from TSP. I like it. The park is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Lots of potential hiding spots. I got a nice picture of Charles perry's house.

Just yell, "You dig?"

And wait for an answer, "I dig!"

Best shot at finding a cooler in the park.

I found 7 of the pirate medallions at Beaver Lake. On the trail near the entrance at Maryland. Another guy I met there found a few himself. Possibly more there, but I got what I needed. Ian, I have one for you if you want it. I know you've been looking for them.

Distance between Rome and Arden Hills MN:

Approximate distance as the crow flies in miles from Rome Italy to Arden Hills United States is 4892 miles or 7871.23 Kilometers.

Things like Oceans, Seas, Rivers and Mountain ranges would have a bit of an impact on these estimates.

If anyone found a short spade with wood handle east of lower pavillion in TS today,it might be ours. It was left next to a tree for about 30 minutes and went missing.

I was doing some alternate thinking about thinking big. Made me think of the movie, "Big". I did a search on IMDB to check the cast and crew list to see if anything interesting came up. Nothing. But then I noted the year of release: 1988. Could be another nod to TSP, but not much help in telling us where in the park.

yea, its a pink gazebo. that property also out lines a box on the map. (outside the box) The people ther have a dog"woof" and there is an areator in the pond in the back yard that leads to a Babbling brook. You can see the Brighton your way light in perry park from there also. To get to the back of the property by the brook you have to go search through the land that is perry . Then again, I could be wrong...

Well, I would say it was a successful hunting day. The results: eight baseballs, one golf ball, a solid walking stick and this!...... Which is a lot more exciting than what I could have asked for from the way things from this year's hunt have been going....it's my second geocache [this year] from TSP.

We were at TSP - but I'm just not feeling it there. I hope all of you digging out there are in the right park. We did run into a couple coolerheads and I think we saw witchdoctor pull into the parking lot just about the time we did. By the time we got back to the car, he was gone again. So where is the babbling brook or creek and where is the barking dog out there?

On the way, we did drive through Como. A few people there hunting, but not many.

On the way back, we went to Highland. I would say there were almost as many cars there as there was at TSP. Plenty of people hunting as well.

Then we drove through IMP just because we love that park and then checked out BC. Again, plenty of cars and hunters out there on the Maplewood side of the park.

What I liked about BC and Highland is there definitely is the blue and red, the picnic area that is likely near and maybe seen from wherever the treasure would be hidden. I sure didn't see red and blue at TSP - unless the two make purple in reference to the Vikings stadium issue.

Dang clues.

Tool envy obviously.

The same thing happened to Santa Dave. He had his shovel leaning against his car while he was inside the car having one of his micronaps. When he woke up and was going to go back hunting, he found it had disappeared.

I have the exact same problem but am too painfully shy to yell,"you dig?" It's all good tho, I just like being out of the house in the winter!

Same here, probably too shy to yell that out. I'll probably get my husband to do it, he's the yeller in our family :smile:

I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for buttons!

I was at BC on the northeast part all day.

Lucky charm is Shamrock Plaza, with a red and blue Holiday store

on McKnight and Lower Afton Road.

Water World has a special claim to BC.

1988 was the year 3M made the first non-metallic medallion.

Blue sun-ray water tower and red 3M sign.

The large pavillion roof looks like half a dart board and it has a stage.

(triple score and "As You Like It"

I'm flummoxed. I feel BC but it could be just a scam to split

the group like last years goodbye clue.

"...disbanding every hunters alliance..."

The buttons help. Before buttons, in 1998, people were wearing odd white things - like cloth diapers - tied around there arms to indicate they were coolerheads.

If anyone is still noodling over BC, Sterling is the name of a book publisher. Sterling St S makes up part of the eastern border of the park. A publisher would 'make book'.

Don't feel bad. I've posting at able minds from the very beginning and am yet to meet another cooler face to face. One of these hunts.

Glad I'm not the only one Evildoer. My post count may be low, but I've been posting with the cooler crew since we were back in the PP watercooler. Still never met anyone face to face. I'm not a very social butterfly I suppose.

My husband and I were out at TSP today. We (well, he) found an area that matches up pretty nicely with a bunch of the clues. Jake and his group were digging nearby, which gives me hope. Had to leave because it was too cold. I might never feel my butt again.

I hope that those of you who I haven't met face-to-face yet will show up at the Rehash Bash - next Sunday. Usually at noon and if someone could reach the parks and get the Newell building again this year, that would be super.
