2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Terry

My top parks are in the following order:

BC

HP

TSP

I feel red herrings out there left and right.

Yeah this about the time in the hunt where I start feeling good about a park (TSP this year) and the rug under my feet goes "swoooop"...

I was out at Tony Schmidt for a little while today. I was digging near the T on the trails where the path from Perry Park meets the Elmer Anderson trail until I talked to someone who made me wonder if that particular spot was actually part of Perry or Tony Schmidt. I was getting cold anyway so I headed home and did some research online comparing the park map to a google map and it seems that spot was indeed part of Perry. Perhaps that's why so few people were there. It seems ater you come out of the tunnel towards Perry, about 3/4 of the way is the border. Then as the Almer Anderson Trail continues north again it remains Perry park until roughly the bend in the path.

I think the reason so many people are still all over is because these clues reference the history of the hunt so much and most people don't know it. By my count I have this:

"Woof" says the dog- In 1988 the treasure was wrapped in almond BARK

"Babble" says the brook- In 1988 the park giveaway clue mentioned the TV show "Our Miss Brooks" which starred Eve Arden.

Most of clue 7 is made up of Mike Madland quotes.

Special claim- Don Madland was credited as being the youngest finder in hunt history.

If you didn't know any of that, you'd be looking for dogs, running water, shamrocks, and anything that could be considered a special claim. But the clues did say they would be using treasured lore, and it has in much the same way they used Don Boxmeyer as a running theme at Swede Hollow.

This.

At the point there are way too many obvious references to history for it to be an accident. The only way this thing isn't at Tony Schmidt is if you really think they are using all these historical references to trick the dedicated hunters (us) who know the history well. I personally think they are throwing us a bone. Now, did they thrown us another bone to pinpoint the location in the park and we just haven't sniffed it yet?

I'm not sure if I was in Perry or TS, but I love that dirtbike path over the hill past the ballpark. All I kept thinking was CXL motocross- Roman Numerals, 3

scratches or scores. Big air(the jumps) and all the little (and not so little) divits in the ground. Todays clue forced me to think of anything else in many parks-bike paths all I could come up with. The Ballfield light as well as Brighten were both visable.

Many there are in many a park...

What if this is referring to past medallion hiding spots? That might suggest it actually is closer to the original hiding spot and would lend a bit of consistency across the entire clue.

Nice seeing you out there Friday Morning. I bet the park is a bit busier now. We haven't been out since Fri. but perhaps tomorrow we will go again.

Unless I am pointed elsewhere tonight, which I am prone to be, I will be there. Nice meeting you and yours as well and welcome!

I can't keep from thinking that "the many there are in many a park" refers to trees, and the right one is a "big" one (think big). I was scouting today looking for likely candidates....

Many there are in many a park...

Couldn't that mean merely a commonality in parks (most people thinking trees-I'm twisting it to bike paths) while maintaining the pairing of words (Perry(many)). Sorry-I don't know how to punctuate that, but you all know what I mean.

It sounds like a lot of folks were out at TSP today! We went out yesterday mainly in Perry along those trails ( especially the 3-way path before the tunnel) and drove by the TSP front section by the lake but I just don't get a decent picture of where it would be. That odd tree by the tunnel was a magnet when we were there :pbpt:

I ventured out today at BC for four hours and was surprised that there were quite a few people out there as well. I am still sad that I am not getting the Highland vibe, was there till clue 3 and out looking, but the clues just don't fit right now.

There was defiantly more hunters on the Maplewood side looking in BC than anywhere else. A fellow hunter and I made our way to last year's hidden site and I am shocked that it was up there that steep! Was it by the weird "rooted" tree ( not toppled over) across from the old stairs? Shocked it was that hard to get to from below!

I can honestly say I am stuck and not set on either TSP or BC. I have to admit, I wish I could tell who is part of the crew! I didn't want to just randomly start asking, lol I need a button or something that gives the CC love

I was just curious. Perhaps if you go back to the same area in the spring - you can find some Owl Pellets. Extremely interesting biology activity.

Good to meet you today Nimrod! Thanks for showing us your spot  We continued walking and experienced the woof of a dog...(besides the encounter with Ferg)...and also spotted an owl.

I was out there as well, digging between that "6 trunked" tree that gave a wonderful view of everything related to the water tower, 3M and that pavilion. I hope BC isn't our red herring this year!

Yea I scoped out that area when the charm clue came out. Going out there today it look's like someone had dug up that whole entire spot.

For those that haven't met any cooler crew people in person. I would recommend coming to Gabe's tonight as a way to meet people. We're usually in the back section to the left past the bar.

Good time in the park today but the kids and I got colder quicker than we anticipated. We were still able to scope out a few really quality areas that are great possibilities. It's a big park, but I think a good chunk of it can be discounted due to being the marshy areas or too thickly wooded to where they wouldn't hide it there. When you take those out of the equation, it's easier to think about managing. Now just to wait for a clue that pinpoints things a bit better.

As a side note, neither of my kids have been able to find any pirate medallions in any of the 10 or so parks we've looked in. I'm getting to the point where I'd consider buying a couple off somebody who has way too many for their own good, that they'll never use. If that's you, shoot me a PM. I can either meet you in the park in the next couple days (preferred), or paypal you some funds if you would rather send them.

I enjoyed seeing the "noodling" photos of everyone the other night on Facebook! Wish I could get out to Gabe's to join you, but its hard to venture out when we have a busy family at home! Hopefully I will see plenty at the park (Have met a few so far!) and I do enjoy the late night hunting towards the end!

I hope tonight's clue isn't a dead giveaway. After this weekend's festivities and digging all afternoon, I am EXHAUSTED and cannot fight sleep any longer. If it is a really good one, though, wake me up and I'll meet you back at the park. A few of you have my number. Sweet dreams!

blue and red simply refer to gabes. Triple Score provides a clue, So do the colors Red and Blue. Simply means triple score is the clue for the night and red and blue give you the clue..

I'm guessing tonight's clue will end the debate about the park, but not offer much in the way of a specific location. Can't decide if I should rest up tonight and bank on a big clue tomorrow night or push on through. This is a game of pacing as much as anything else. I remember being out there the last night at Lilydale 2 years ago and heading home 30 min before the clue came out cuz I had nothing left in the tank.

Jengerm I had a horrible time for the first couple years I wanted to meet people and I just couldn't do it. Come to the rehash or the predig and just introduce yourself and you won't be sorry or Seriously if you are at TS because I know every corner I turn around has a cooler digging there just hollar You Dig and someone will answer if not move on to another area. Seems like there have been more times than not lately that I've found a large group just hanging out talking up top by the power lines if you see a bunch up there yell you dig and I'm sure someone will respond! It's a great group of people we have here makes the hunt 10x more fun being able to walk around to a new spot and find someone else to dig with for a while.

"Find the right one, and you're close to the mark" has "Tony Schmidt" in it, but I wasn't able to get anything usable. Just jibberish and something about a "freeloading nun."

I agree with you on the pacing part.... the first couple of years I would go all gung-ho early on only to find myself in the wrong park or wrong area of the park. Getting burned out by the end. I now do less night hunting at least until the last 2-3 clues. It seems more often then not it's found during the day in an area already dug up.

Now I dig a little here, a little there. Mostly scouted the last couple of days. Walk, look, and talk. Take mental notes for futures clues.

My calves are killing me tonight.... these boots aren't made for walking.
