2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

History- Before the 1850s the Sioux tribe used Lake Johanna as a resting point on their journey to Rice Lake for the fall wild-rice harvest. Then, in 1850, Charles Perry was the first settler to break ground and plant potatoes on three acres next to Lake Johanna. During this time the land was part of Mounds View Township.

They came miles to reap their yield

From the watery fall field

What was the first link? It won't load for me.

So the word "fall" in the clue likely refers to autumn.

The rest of this though is escaping me. Of course if the first two lines are wrong, the rest won't work either.

I've had a few bouts with pneumonia; so glad she was diagnosed correctly! It can come on suddenly and you feel like you were hit by a truck!

Thank goodness y'all took this seriously and went to the doctor right away. My dad nearly died a few years ago from pneumonia. Very scary! Prayers for a speedy recovery.

is there an obvious pattern to the scrambling in the words tonight?

It said:

Prior to the arrival of Europeans this area was home

to the Dakota. They followed trails through here to reach

more northern hunting grounds and wild rice harvesting

lakes.

In 1848, Charles Perry took possession of a 160-acre

claim on land that would later become Como Park. For a

year, he raised cattle and grew potatoes by the lake he

called Lake Como, after the famous lake near his

birthplace in the Swiss-Italian Alps. However because

his neighbors were “becoming too thick and interfered

with his cattle-raising,” he moved further north to Lake

Johanna in 1849, where he became the first settler of

what is now Arden Hills.

It's not making any sense to me....and it's too long until the *real* clue comes out (not likely going to be out tonight anyway)...

I will catch up with y'all in the AM.

Goodnight and SCD's to all!!

not 100% sure that's right given the history. they didn't come miles to reap their yield at johanna; they reaped it at rice lake.

Each clue gives us more items to bring to the rehash bash. Will be interesting to see what creative recipes people come up with using potatoes and wild rice.

The obvious pattern is the scrambled words don't make snese.

There's a lot of swampland at TS. Is that off limits? I was out in it today, as I wanted to look at a very large beaver dam close up. For some reason, beavers fascinate me. That and I've had more than my share of dam run-ins while out canoeing. The engineering is amazing!

I think we're missing words...in fact it would not surprise me if "ground" is one of the words to complete the phrase..."they fall around or on the (ground)"

My best guess

Came from miles to reap their fall yield

A delicacy of the watery field

A night or two they can stay

Then on to riches around the way

My husband was interested in the beaver dam too, but thought he would accidentally wake a hibernating beaver, which would lead to disastrous consequences.

Good luck sleeping! I tried but the hunt won't allow it. I see visions of parks every time I close my eyes. That and nightmares of Jake finding it before i do!

The Sioux didn't reap their riches by Lake Johanna though, did they? I thought they just used it as a resting point.

On the way to reap their yield

..........delicacy of a watery field

................they came to stay

.............two miles a way

Whew when I put two and miles together I hope they weren't telling us como, but I googled it and it's 6 miles.

what else would go with two except miles or riches?

I like these scrambled clues. Gives us something to do during that long hour before the clue comes out. And let's some of us get to bed earlier too.
