2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Cuz I'm always logged in, but I'm not always here. I don't want you guys thinking I'm here 24-7 and have no life, LOL!

I think that's actually called Kellogg Park.

When I heard Star Park, I thought of the small park at the north end of the smith avenue bridge. However, I think that one is called Smith park.

Ha! I thought everyone in Cooler Crew knew that except me. Whew. I wasn't the only one. Trying to find out who designed the medallion, but can't find much. Anyone?

Designed? Hard to say. Maybe MrMedHunter would know, he worked with the pioneer press on his book "Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt History". I seem to remember he had to get permission, or actually received artwork from the press on the older medallions shown on the cover.

From PP Treasure Hunt FB page:

"The general consensus is that 'Star Park' was a typo, but they haven't commented on it yet."

I wonder what park is like "Star" but yet is a typo where some pirate meds were placed...

When you hit the server your name goes to the top of the list. Then it drops down as others hit the server. If you don't hit the server in some amount of time, like 10 minutes, you drop off completely.

Saint Paul Winter Carnival

Attention all medallion hutners... please do not dig in Rice Park....

There was a debate about this on FB. Geeze.

warning-the following nugget is from a very tired and obsessed neurotic digger:

We're kinda convinced it's TSP, and we know there is a north and a south part surrounding CPP, and TSP runs both east and west of CPP as well as North and south. The trail is east. West is the (I typed MY instead of THE- may need a post hunt therapy session!) dirtbike mogles behind the ballfield, next to Brighton and below the baseball feild lights. I noticed CW used "fall" instead of Autumn. Down the hill, in the hole, bike jumps. There are many bike paths in many parks. Thoughts?

Taking a lunch break from treasure hunting to eat Dominos Pizza which was delivered to the parking lot, long time treasure hunters Tess McNamara of Shoreview, Scott Nelson of Lindstrom, Steve Worthman the "Map Guy" , two-time medallion hunter Jake Ingebrigtson of St. Paul and Rob Brass of Chaska get energy to continue hunting for the Winter Carnival medallion in Tony Schmidt Regional Park. "Fiinding the medallion is neat, and I hope I do someday, but the best part of the deal is this, all the people you end up meeting and the friendships you make," said Scott Nelson, hunting for his 34th year. (Pioneer Press: Scott Takushi)

what do you mean by dirtbike mogles? Is that in the SW area of the park?

If you park at CPP, and follow down the trail - instead hug the baseball fence (you'll see the path) once at the top turn left and go down looking to your right-can't miss it.

What is funny is how things have changed.

When I first got to the CC, I was told that you knew you were in the wrong park if you saw Jake. Now there are people asking where he is hunting...

(I just hope to find it once before he finds it again...)

I have not been able to get out since Friday morning. There were maybe 5 cars at Perry and 3 at TSP when I left. Something tells me, that is not the case now

Had a bad day today, want to hunt and forget my worries.

Good luck CC, see you all tomorrow morning if the puck is still in play.

I still think that's true. He just does a better job now of aligning himself with people who are good clue noodlers (Rob, Alex, AW, to name a few).

I am going to see if they gave us a doozy and hid the medallion in a piece of Yarusso's Lasagna. Probably going to head down in about 20 minutes if anyone wants to join me.

I think the Triple might be how the parks are kinda stacked on each other tony Schmidt( with the beach area included) then CPP park, then tony Schmidt. Don't know if it's an accident but....

Circulated in the PiPress news.

Notice the 3 letters that are capitalized...CPP

I use to think the triple meant different things..

now I think it may be the parks being kinda stacked.

This needs to be zeroed-in:

"When you spot a place with a special claim."

Need to locate that spot or place with a special claim. In that entire park(s), where is this special claim located.

After scouring the park again, I'm now certain that the medallion will be hidden tonight.

I think it was Leelabell who brought up questions about Wednesday night earlier... what is the feeling on whether we need someone in line to get the paper/ticket for the paper or whether the online release is adequate?

Charles Perry's homestead claim.

I was thinking you had to be able to see Perry's claim from where it is. I've been trying to keep the area in sight.

I actually set up a conference call line for tonight if we want to use it. I'm not sure exactly how it will work with the scrambled clue though. We have someone at Gabes, and we will have the 4th paper (I was there at noon to get my ticket). We could do the conference call for the real clue if we can't unscramble the clue in time. Any thoughts on the best way to work this?

Someone had asked about Chatham Trails, and if that center section (by the elementary school) was fair game. I was doing a double take to run through everything again, and I found that Chatham Trails is also located in that general area most seem to be looking. Hope this helps... I highlighted it on the picture in the link

I haven't been out yet, had a dentist appointment this afternoon. I think I'm going to wait for the clue and go out then. If you see me, I'm going to wear these glasses <--- and a pink and white striped hat and I have pink in my hair

I think that is a good idea... a test run of the system. I have waited in line for the paper in the past, but have never really been in on the conference calls. I am not sure how that works.

Would you want to just post the number and we can call in and be set to test it out for tonight?

What I am really curious about is how the timing plays out for the online clue vs. paper...
