Went to Marydale to look around, saw some people scopin with clues.A woman was out in the playground and started to walk near us in the car.So I pull up next to her and ask her if she was huntin. She looks at me like I'm some sort of nutty axe murderer (one with two kids in the car) and says "NO".I've never seen someone walk away so fast........thought it may be one of you that I haven't met.I guess I'll have to be more careful!LOL!
A man of steel can not be real, but another has plenty of mettle.
So what is the connection between the "man of steel" and the man with mettle? Some say the man of mettle is Clark Kent, but really now, is Clark Kent any more real than Superman? If we pick a random man of mettle, let's say Andrew Jackson or MLK, what's the connection/comparison with a man of steel? If we're talking about a statue, are we talking about a statue of a man of mettle? Then why does it refer to *another* man? Honestly, I think my Franklin Magnet interpretation makes more sense than what might seem at first to be more obvious ones. At least mine ties it all together.
I also went up to a guy and asked him if he was huntin and on-line.He was huntin but not on-line.I told him about a few other options.I was hoping he was one of us,because I kinda feel bad for the people diggin up the wrong park! God knows I've done it a few times! Besides with the expanse of land we're talkin about this year it's a crap shoot!
Allison: Yeah, I thought about Valley early yesterday because of the east, west thingy and the depression clue(possible analogy, a valley)early yesterday. Valley being strategically between Eastview playground and Western park(a valley between east and west and closer to west) And yes, several others parts of the clues fit too. Looked like several or one person had the same idea of checking out the area. Only thing that bothered me was the lack of public area. I considered the playground area somewhat off limits because it's used by the school there. Not sure it would be okay to go digging around even though the committee might think that would detract searchers. Went around side of school and hill goes up to Mt Airy housing. Again not a whole lot of area to be searching through. I'm not a native to the state but have lived here 7 years. This is the 3rd year for us to be hunting. It's like a huge scavenger hunt. Anyway, got good vibes for Valley, but after todays clue, not so sure.(Still will keep it stored in the vault). Clue 5 is has lots of info, but I'm hoping they're not giving away toooooo much to soon since it sounded like they were going to try to make it more challenging this time. Good hunting!!!
Another possibility with the two clues mentioning "test" & "thinking" those could both be references to University which run on one side of the valley. Someone also already mentioned how Gillette could be the man of steel the Children's hospital is near.
Franklin Magnet school is the school at Valley. And I suppose test and thinking may have to do with Universoty Ave. but then again it could have to do with Franklin.
As for the playground, my guess is it isn't there. Seems like there would be far too much risk of kids finding it by accident if they tried to put it there since it gets used just about everyday. My guess is its on that side of the park, but farther out somewhere.
Shoveler,I had one very young but was in my middle twenties with the little ones! I'm probably not as young as you think.....but I ain't dead yet........
Jake and green said they saw a guy who they thought was a spotter and they did go up to him and ask if he was. They said the guy nearly choked. They said he was in a city vehicle, but I imagine if there are spotters, they work for PP, not the city. Perhaps the city does have people watch the parks this time of year, not as spotters, but just to make sure people aren't destroying things. Hmmm, maybe that's where the spotter legends come from?
The school isn't circular, but there are some tables down the slope, out of view that are. Not only are they circular, but they are encircled with circular seats and all the tables are arranged in a cricle. Its the big W I'm telling you!
I say today's clue fits Valley because of the Franklin Magnet school there. Magnets can be made of steel, but Franklin is not. But Benjamin Franklin was a man of mettle. (its a joke, not a man of steel, but he was a man of mettle).
Dang double post got me - first time this yet, yet it still bites.
Where is Valley?
Or the congressional "gold medal", which was awarded to Charles Schultz recently.
Valley is kind of behind the Capitol on University and Jackson.
They recentenly renamed the arena at Highland to the Charles Schultz arena...
Kay Allison! I was there..........and at Marydale......and MLK......
I've crossed the two off my list!
For those of you digging out at MLK.....did someone honk at you?:)
Me and the kids actually dug at one park.....not that it will do much good right now, thats alot of snow!
and the parking sucks!
Find any dove bars?
Nope Sue! But it's there......somewhere.

ouch twice bitten, once shy, hehehe.
It's down in the valley.
Maybe she thought you meant hunting for deer or bears...lol
I was there,I agree with you Allison, everything fits. And my what a lovely view.
Scribe, you crossed Marydale and MLK off, or was Valley one you crossed off?
Ok, guess you answered that. Nice to see your faith in me justified. :)
Hey, I got the quadruple four and now the quadruple five Joe!
Of course you know I have to wait until night before I can go back out there to look.
I dig the valley, its like totally gnarly man.
Another possible Superman reference:
"To escape the herd find a peaceful bird"
escape = S-cape
Superman has an S on his cape. Whatd'ya think?

Dang vampirism gets em every time.
And its an especially great view from the Valley at night. The only thing I can't figure out, is why is it called Valley when its up on a hill?
Because they were depressed Allison!LOLOLOL!
the mind boggles.
Scribe, you're just making all sorts of friends, aren't you...you sure you're not a spotter?
Allison - isthere a "Franklin Magnet School" at all?
I know people say its not downtown but who is ROY WILKINS
Well I'm sure a few people think I am now! BTW,there were some suspicious people eatin lunch in a Buick at Marydale, whattya make of it?
Maybe if I go out hunting with my pirate hat tonight I'll find it. What do you think Scribe? (and no, I'm not going to wear ballet shoes!)

Maybe they looking for a little action...you better be careful Scribe!
Allison,I told my kids to tell people we were lookin for pirate ballerinas.....I thought one guy was gonna faint!
>I considered the playground area somewhat off limits because it's used by the school there.
but it would be bold of us to just go up onto that land and dig away.
I didn't go up to them,Sue! Geez I'm not that crazy.....besides what if I blew their cover??

Scribe, you have multiple kids, I took you to be pretty young, or did you have 'em when you were younger.
My guess it's right in the field of packed down snow. Wanna bet on that?
is the school circular?

Roy Wilkins was a civil rights leader. There is a statue of him near the capitol. hmmmm
why valley, in terms of todays clue?
So was John Ireland........good luck!:)

Ok, I have to go do the Mom thing at preschool now...Chat later!
whats the big W?
