1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

With all the talk of French definitions of the word nil wouldn't Montreal Ave come back into play at Highland Park.

professinals in my mind for contest people are those who travel around compeating in contest, and thats their jobs.

as of us, your professional if your going on the imfamious "midnight runs" after getting the paper and running thru the parks screaming with your flamming laterns digging franticly in the freazing cold and blinding dark at the midnight hour with your cell phones handy.

ShovelMaster

1998's "Shovel Boy"

why not dig up Como again? They already have experience fixing it up in the Spring, that'll make it easier for them. Besides, one way or another, multiple Saint Paul parks are going to look like downtown Beirut when this whole thing is over. So, stay with me here for a second. You can reverse logic, and re-reverse it and so on, that';s why it's called a mind f**k, but Como is huge and boundless, and the fact that it was there two years ago, makes it even yummier. Don't forget that Cherokee had been used fairly recently and everyone one of it's opponents said no way to Cherokee last year, and while they all treaded with pick axes on sacred indian ground, 2000 of us tore apart a city park and not one police officer showed up to put a stop to it. Isn't this medallion hunt great?

1998's "Shovel Boy"

outside the circle of standard activity: Is anyone else having trouble getting their picture up next to their name. I know how webclip works, I used it last year, but I looked at the instructions again and its not working. You're supposed to go into the box in your preferences next to (your picture) and then hit control v to bring your picture into play, except that it's not letting me click in the box next to your picture.

It didn't neccesarily say a park did it? Didn't it say a public place?

IF THE SHOVELMASTER IS RIGHT COMO IS ONE OF THEIR FAVORITE PARKS TO HIDE THE COIN. WHATS WITH THE ICE SLIDE

Shovel Master - Run webclip, click inside the box for your picture on the preferences page, hit Control-V to insert picture, (You'll see some code inside the box - often it says "end*"), go to the bottom of the preference page and hit set preferences and then go to the bottom of the next page and hit okay.

I'm headed out for some food, then some drive arounds and get some answers to things rumbling around in my noggin today. I'll post later if I find anything interesting.

My sister thinks it's at Phalen, but I'm not to sure. I know it's dumb logic, but every year that Phalen had the medallion, the decade ended in a three. I can't wait until I get this Friday off so I can look for it.

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 6:40 PM Permalink

Schbabs--I agree. I think it's at phalen also...

What about 1989 when it was at the Capitol Mall, or 69 when it was at 35-E and Victoria? Or 67 when it was at the fair grounds?

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 6:43 PM Permalink
Mhunter Schbabs

What if you're not eighteen, can they award the prize to your parents? What are the specific details/rules of the hunt? If that's the case, how come there's always a lot of little childen helping in the find?

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 6:44 PM Permalink
Mhunter Schbabs

It can't be at those places. It has to be in a park because one year the postal service had a cow because people were messing with the mail boxes.

I'm wondering if the medallion is in the Capitol Mall park. There is mention of a slide, but not near it. I cannot see why there is the reason to have it hidden near a park with a golf course. Any takers? Where's Casey from last year and who's the monitor now?

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 6:48 PM Permalink

I think it almost has to be in a park because the way people complain

Any thoughts about the ski jump and ski area at battle creek, if your"flying downhill", wouldn't you be in mid air? golf courses have nothing to do with it, it's just a general warning to stay off them. plus you can see the jump from a ways away and you don't have to be near.

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 7:10 PM Permalink

Battle Creek is another good site - there may be a downhill standard ie ski, sled

Keep in mind that the center of this year's festivities is the ice slide. Celebrates this year's anniversary. May give some insight to the first two clues.

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 7:19 PM Permalink

I really think they have it at a park with a golf course....

They have never had such a formal warning to go on one, and if it wasn't near one, why would they do that?

mention was made (by fellow searchers) of harriet park - if the ice palace is to be built next year, this $10,000 would eliminate the searchers at harriet by finding the medallion there this year in order to keep the sightseeing of the palace more open next year. any downhill site available at harriet? I can't remember seeing sledding hills.
