It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Behind the capitol, there is a scenic overlook of the city at the corner of University and Jackson. Could that have something to do with the golf clue? (the platform looks like a gigantic tee)
Bandit: It *would* be fun, just to say we dug there when we *knew* it couldn't possibly be there! I'm thinking its not at Cherokee. Right now, I'm thinking along the same lines as those folks who think it is in a park *with* a golf course and sledding hill. But I could be wrong...
Hey, if you go out there, though, remember it was near a tree that had white chalk on it - some said the word "crack" was written on the tree.
Oh, there I go - living in the past again. Maybe I'll go post on last year's hunt board.
Step- You do not use a tee on the fairway or green, but instead just hit the ball directly from the ground there. Also, you can "look only onto public ground in St Paul", the capitol.
I say HF to dangerous, this year is going to be the biggest population wise. try getting 100 cars on river road and the hill down there. w/ all the ice there right now, never. I'm a student at Highland Senior High and I'll go ther tomorrow morning, but I'd douubt it
The clues are so vague that the really haven't begun to eliminate parks yet for us. They will start within the next 2 clues to give us an idea of what parks not to look at.
It's dangerous to read too much into the clues this early in the quest. We think the flying down hill clue is a red herring regarding sledding, and maybe refers to Holman field down below. (Mounds?)
At the overlook, it is a park, overlooking the capitol mall. And the whole area is hilly, possibly with sledding hills, over even cars sliding down an icy hill!
I heard that people at Phalen wont let them hide it there because last time the entire golf course was ripped up, but who knows, rumors fly fast about these things
Medallionguy--and that's why i think they used such an obvious warning in the first clue...they HAVE to have it at a big park and all of them have courses...

Wright Winger- What about Battle Creek?
I still think it is in a park with no sledding hills or golf courses. Hidden Falls, Mounds
I agree with MH. With $10,000 more will be out searching. Try to minimize damage, with clue 1.
Cory--It says to avoid golf, though...
Alrighty then, I shall be bock...........hopefully w/good news for da bandit.
Good luck Bandit!
What about como-- the golf course AND sledding/skiing hills are one!
Me and the Medallion Mobile
oh yea, BC good too. HF my fav still
Why HF the early favorite?
Step- You do not use a tee on the fairway or green, but instead just hit the ball directly from the ground there. Also, you can "look only onto public ground in St Paul", the capitol.
medallionhound--alot of people think that "flying" in flying downhill has some different meaning...do you think it just means flying as in going fast?
good point Cory...
The second part of Clue #1 says "A park is the spot..." so I'm thinking that rules out the Capitol mall.

yeah--It's DEFINATELY at a park...
It could be sledding.Skiing, Ski Jump, just steep hill like at Hidden Falls, all these activities are fast.
How about eliminating parks? Tough to find on 2 clues.
regalman--I think you are right...with all of the people this year it HAS to be at a big park...

Think we'll have another hot chocolate....
I'm goin with the big boys---Phalen, Como, Highland early on....
step-1672. I parked ~3.5 blocks to get to Newell.
Me and the Medallion Mobile
HF is my pyhcic guess. but ya, big hunt. what do they do for special hunt? they go to highland. why, i dont know.
At the overlook, it is a park, overlooking the capitol mall. And the whole area is hilly, possibly with sledding hills, over even cars sliding down an icy hill!
Voonie--you think como???
It cant be Como because they dont want people digging up the park with all the events there. And also they remodeled all of the park last summer.
Wright Winger- What does HF stand for? Highland is HP.
Wasnt there a clue like this one a couple years back? Does anyone else remember it?
HF=Hidden Falls
Where can you buy a winter carnival button before the post mark dead line to register comes? I have tried a number of places without any luck.
Thanx Medallionhound
Wookie--SA, Holiday...
Try a SuperAmerica I just got mine there
So that leaves Highland & Phalen--I don't know, I just have a wierd feeling that it is at one of these parks...
Anybody think the Winter Carnival has multiple sets of clues in case of a last minute change due to ??????
I heard that people at Phalen wont let them hide it there because last time the entire golf course was ripped up, but who knows, rumors fly fast about these things
ticktock--what????
Explain??????????
Does the same person write the clues every year? If so, maybe a pattern to nil mentioned earlier may be able to be used.
The PP makes up the clues though
Medallionguy--and that's why i think they used such an obvious warning in the first clue...they HAVE to have it at a big park and all of them have courses...
If I knew who was writing the clues, they would have a new best friend every minute of the day.
Say the site was exposed or had such a risk of personal injury- just guessing.
ticktock--I still don't understand....
Who ever makes up these clues is a frickin genius
I am Stepping with you on that ambulance chaser.
