Why do the Vulcans do a "garter ceremony" anyway? What does that have to do with the Winter Carnival? And what woman wants some strange man dressed in red touching her bare leg? I'm sure the second and third women did not know what happened to the first until later. Especially since the Vulcans circled the woman with their capes so no one could see. That just really creeps me out. I mean, unless they intended to do something inappropriate, then why did they hide behind their capes? I think all of them should be charged with indecency or something for being (apparently)Â complicit in this kind of behavior.
I know the Vulcans have a long history and are something of a secret brotherhood. But I think perhaps it's time to go back to what they were originally supposed to do...Be the counterpart to King Boreas in the Winter Carnival. That means the Vulcans simply being guys who dress up for and participate in Winter Carnival events. They could have new guys apply to be Vulcans every year, with the stipulation that no one could be a Vulcan more than once. That would keep it from becoming this secretive gang of lecherous old guys. (Gross!)
great waters is supposedly @ 46 degrees - seemed more like 54-60 to me but I love the dark warm beers - goes down like honey and settles ones stomach really really nice! KUDOS to them for the cask creations...and i dont even drink much anymore - i may have to there tho! or hell you may find me and frosti passed out in his basement sometime real soon!
The "new guys" thing was an idea for the future. I don't know how they get chosen now. Do they have new guys each year now? I thought the same guys were Vulcans for many years. (Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about!)
I think other then being the Vulcan King most people would only be a Vulcan once. You have to cover and pay for all your travel and such for the entire year. It's not just about running round for two weeks being crazy.
I think the confusing part is the "once a Vulcan" part. To become a Vulcan you need to be part of a Krewe. So if a guy gets chosen to be one of the Krewe (listed above) he dresses up and does all the zany Vulcan stuff for the Winter Carnival. The next year there's a new Krewe with new guys. But the previous Krewe members are still considered to be Vulcans.
He has to do a new thing every year...like fundraising, promotions/marketing, etc...
He is to have a good handle on everything on the "backside" of the krewe....

When I was in the Jaycees and Very active I was asked to apply...told them I can't afford it as I was on my Sr. year of college....One of them told me to take out a loan because its "better then a college degree in terms of emplyment"
yeah like i've said before. my sister's boyfriends dad was rex last year. and there's a HUGE deal about being rex. you have to have MAJOR bling. it's not cheap. and to be rex, you had to be a regular vulcan once before. and you don't even really know when it's going to be your year. i guess his dad has easily spent more than 60k in the whole time he's been a vulcan.
and supposedly this years rex is a recovering alcholoic. so that's probably why they reported he doesn't drink much. so maybe get one or two drinks in him and he freaked out.
it's super secret and i think it's super cool. but if he really did what they said, that's just awful. scuzzy. gross.
Hey guys... I don't want to start any drama, but I want to bring to your attention.. something that was brought to mine. I won't name any names so please don't ask me to. I'm not putting anyone at blame, I'm not implying that anyone DID say anything, I'm doing the best that I can to give everyone the benefit of the doubt because I consider each and every one of you a friend, even the people I don't know all that well yet.
It was brought to my attention that things were being said about my posting too much about stupid things that have nothing to do with the hunt, and how I'm always posting something about everything, ect. I don't know if there's any truth to anything that I heard, I'm hoping that there's not, because when I was told these and other things I was really really hurt and seriously considered withdrawing myself from the crew.
I like to laugh, I like to make people laugh. I like to tell and hear jokes. When I become the butt of jokes, for no reason, that's where I have to draw the line. I'll be the first one to admit that I may not be the brightest beacon of light, and my not have a whole lot to contribute when it comes to money, or even noodeling, but I do what I can, with what I have, and if that is not good enough for anyone, I am very sorry.
You all mean a lot to me. You're my 2nd family. I have made so many wonderful friendships in the past few years that will last me a life time. I'll never be able to have this sort of feeling anywhere else. You all have welcomed me into the group, no questions asked. Some people talk to me more than others, which is totally fine, and I hope one day to get to know EVERYONE. I HATE cliques, I don't consider myself to be a cliquie person. I try my best to get along with everyone and keep everyone on a level playing field.
I guess what I'm trying to say here, is that I hope everything I have heard is all garbage. I'm really wanting to believe that it is but I guess there's just a small shadow of a doubt that sort of looms over everything. Why? I have no idea. My goal is to be liked by everyone. I know sometimes I try a little too hard, and it can get a little over bearing. I try to NOT do that. I really do.
Again I'm not saying or implying or blaming anyone for anything, I just want to let you know that there are rumours out there, potentially hurtful ones. Thank you guys for everything that you have done. I really treasure each and every one of you. Thank you for your time, your friendship, your trust, and most of all thank you for all of the fun.
What the heck! MM, often times I read your posts and think you have more insight into things than a lot of people. Well, more than me anyway. I think you're funny as heck also. I love your enthusiasm, and that doesn't cost a thing! I had another point to make too but I forgot what it was. lol I'll get back to you when I think of it. ;)

Isn't that how it works? A new Krewe every year? But that's only 7 new guys each year, so the group doesn't grow too quickly.

It's kind of like a good-ol'-boy club. Once a Vulcan, always a Vulcan. The former Vulcan's stay involved for years after they were active Vulcans.
