In steed of haveing to give him a RIDE!!! LOL
JK brother If i still lived up that way and had MY DL I would in a heart beat!! but I have to find a ride My self!!!
After we get kicked out of Matty B's and go to Mickeys that is.
Woooooo!
I'll even start the 1st annual BFG cab fund. How much does it take to get to north oaks from Mickeys? I've got 5 on it...
BFG cab fund: $5/???
Missed you ya big lug
I heard the cabbies charge $75 for a drinker!
Im in for Mickeys.
I'll plan on slipping you one or two if that's the case.
because then, you just keep telling them to go other places....
did a cab one year from the pdg, with somebody else - wont ever do that again..... although that time, the cabbie was high, and reeked of weed, and didnt even charge us....
At 3:30 pm this afternoon I receive a call from the Parent Company of Matty B's... as of yesterday they SHUT THEIR DOORS!!!!
It is now 3:45 and I have already made several Phone Calls to other bars (including McGoverns) in the area... it looks as though WILD TYMES may be able to accommodate us... I am calling back at 6:00 to talk with the manager... the only hang up will be that there is a WILD Game that night so we may need to move our start time to 8pm...
I will post again tonight what I finalize...
(I do feel sorry for the young girl that called from HDQRTS as I was not very pleasant when she told me the news)....

McGoverns - no space available. Party room is booked.
Wild Tymes - could put us in the back bar with overflow into the main area - but would need to be closer to 8 once the Wild Game starts - calling to talk to manager tonight.
Great Waters - Banquet Room is available. Would let us have a DJ (if Lilman is available)... FOOD - willing to try and work something out (room usually sells with appetizers, meaning we would charge a couple of bucks at the door or put up a tip jar to help pay) Main concern is can we get people there... would need to get about 75 to 100 people there drinking for them to staff the bar in there. Calling banquet manager in the morning.
Placed some other calls to the bars on W 7th... being a Wild night is not helping...
I think keeping it downtown if at all possible would be the best bet.
Obbs is a good backup option if we have to leave downtown.
Thanks Kat for doing the work on this!
I'm most disapointed for all the nights we go down to the paper :frown:
For the pre-dig only, is there any other place on W7th that has a back room?
Gabes by the Park has the outdoor patio? You could literally start AT the Frog Pond instead of just threatening to do so every year.
I'm bummed about Matty B's.
Kat - thank you for taking this on.
I eat at Obb's on average twice a week. I can tell you this guy would be loyal to us and welcome us every year. He says we can only have 75 people in the basement? Big fricking deal! There is plenty of room upstairs and it is never that busy later on Saturday nights. Folks, business people are business people, and that is all we are going to encounter downtown. Let's move it to Obb's, where management actually gives a shit! It is time to start a new tradition. Besides, we are kidding ourselves if we think any restaurant/bar manager or owner downtown is going to give two shits about the Cooler Crew. Turns out, the friendly folks at Matty B's sure didn't. Seriously. Our guy at Obb's will.
Hopefully, common sense will prevail. As much as I love Bugg's, I'd hate to have to close it down Saturday night.
omg...i'd be such a lush
It basically came down to Great Waters or OBBS thorough process of elimination.
Great Waters:
+ Downtown, can accommodate our group if everyone attended at the same time, can put up fliers on Matty B's door directing them down the street.
- Expensive, might make us buy food to obtain the room
OBBS:
+ Positive service every time we've visted the place as a group. On and off season. (remember all last hunt, NTFCF, Rocky Horror and Vikings games?), cheaper food and drinks, very established bar that will be around next year. No need to be downtown to get the clue since it's out that morning anyway. Plus no conflicts with the Wild games. Free parking
- Can only accommodate 75 people downstairs. Might be a learning curve for people who haven't been there before (but last year's hunt should clear that issue up unless it's your first hunt) Might close before 2 unless we work out something ahead of time.
Personally I'd like to book this ASAP so we can get going on the fliers that we can post all over Matt B's eviction notices on their doors and also update the Welcome thread and anything over at the PP boards as well so people know where we'll be.
Can we make a deadline for a decision? Tonight? Tomorrow morning? I know that when I heard this happened over the phone and not on line I was fine if things were decided upon with who was on here at the time as this is very time sensitive (Thanks Birky Baby!~)) dUMBASS
Plus I was informed of this nice little bar situated around Mears park if we wanted a nightly place to go to downtown before the clue if others didn't want to go to to Great Waters or any of the other bars down there.
Anyone care to chime in with a yea or nea on having thing thing decided upon tonight?
As for where to go, considering that the clue usually comes out early anyway and there is a Wild Game that night, there doesn't seem to be any particular advantage to limiting ourselves to downtown, at least for the Pre-Dig. Beyond that, there are lots of places to go. Obb's I suppose sounds as good as any. Being so last minute, if they're willing to do it, I'd take them up on it. This time of year you tend to still be dealing with a lot of holdover holiday parties and a lot of private rooms are still booked. Consequently I don't know how many options we'll even come up with.
