Why would anyone question whether or not to have it at Obb's? If you think it's too small, try going to McGoverns where they have plenty of rooom but don't want us. The problem is, people are trying to fix something that ain't broke, and when that happens shit breaks.

Just throwing this out for thought... My hubby used to have his class reunions at the Croation Hall in South St. Paul. Enough room without being too big, they have a bar, I don't recall if they had food though maybe it was catered. There is other halls - Serbian, I think Russian. I don't know how important it is to everyone to have it in St Paul city limits, If my memory serves me I think there is either a Czech or German Hall on West 7th.

Plus I think most American Legions or VFW's would be suitable size, don't know about cost.

IMHO no...keep it in st. paul...

obb's or the place that took over matty b's....kat didn't you have that all lined up for us with all kinds of mega specials????

I am out of it this year - I tried to listen to everyone's concerns from last year regarding location (room to move around, specials on drinks, places to sit, etc...) and was offering up solutions but got over-ruled so I stepped back...

For the record:

The St. Paul Heritage Foundation wanted very much to help shine a spotlight on the Cooler Crew as an important group of the winter carnival. The CEO Beth Pinkney (while speaking with all the new business owners in the downtown area) shared the story of the Crew with the new owner of American Burger (old Matty Bs). He was very excited to talk to someone from our group to attempt to work something out. Before that could happen Obbs was decided upon. So I told the Royal Guard to go ahead and look into that place (as they were standing back so they would step on our toes).

As I know - Brad is meeting with Obbs today to set up the pre-dig.

For the extra "shine" on the crewe... I am keeping the office in the loop as I hear of things but not setting anything up unless I am asked to do it (like publicizing the pre-dig on their website).

Nothing was set up with Obbs yet. Beth had good intentions. She is definitely a resource that we want on our side. Did anyone else talk with Obbs or American Burger?

From what I've heard is that Obbs thought they were going to get our daily patronage before the clue and that was never the idea. I still see American Burger as being the best spot for that. Spread the love for that matter. I assume that they'll both have specials for us in some form. Obbs for the PDG and AB for the nightly gatherings. No idea on RHB yet. Ideas? The park pavilion like before we had it at AW's lodge? Obbs? AB? Restaurant/Bar close to park

Thanks to Beth for getting our name out there with the new establishments in town. It makes it easier when talking with them about accommodating our crew.

American Burger's happy hour menu and specials look pretty good, so I think the only "special treatment" we might ask is that they extend the happy hour to weekends for us. Menu

Someone please confirm.

Thunder keeps getting stolen nowadays cuz they stick Clue 1 in the Early (Saturday) Weekend Edition now. Anyone know someone at the PP they can convince they're losing money by not exclusively publishing it in the Sunday paper?
Fri, 11/13/2009 - 11:09 AM Permalink

The clue comes out in the early edition of Sunday's paper. So, they're making $1/paper regardless of whether they sell it on Saturday or Sunday.

If that burger place sucks for nightly gattherings there is a new place just down the street. I think it's across from macy's. Used to be that resteraunt that had the white tablecloths and was really formal (and is huge). Now I think its called "BOP" or something like that. Way more casual than the old place and seemed resonably priced when Penny and I were there. Good food too.

actually they probably make more doing it the way they do. most of us are subscribers and would get the sunday paper anyway from that. i for one am not going to buy the midnight paper when the final edition is on my doorstep 6 hours later. i might however, be convinced to buy the early edition.
