The earth's year is 365.24219 days long. That's how long it takes the Earth to make one cycle around the sun, and through seasons. Until Julius Caesar proclaimed every fourth year a Leap Year, calendars were a mess. If you lived long enough, you could experience your birthday in two or three different seasons.

Emperor Julius Caesar 45 BC: Emperor Julius Caesar proclaims the last day of February as Leap Year Day, skipping it three out of four years. Back then, February 30th was the last day of the last month of the year, which is why he picked it.

Emperor Caesar Augustus 4 AD: Emperor Caesar Augustus corrects a counting error in Leap Years. He also gets the month of August named after him, and steals the last day of February so that August can have 31 days, just like Julius' month. Now February has 29 days in Leap Years.

it is advisable for someone who wishes to give to a beggar but wants to avoid helping aiding their addiction is to give gift cards to a fast food resturant or someplace similar.

some of the stuff I'm reading says that this "team" format is in use...

but.....it if a guy sits at the same corner day in and out he gets a better total...because even though you never talk to the guy you develop a sense of a building relationship and eventually makes it harder to drive away. If you see the same guy everyday and he waves.....but if for some reason you don't see him after weeks...you'll be concern'd and might ask him the next day he is back out there...

That's what I was thinking too. I used to see the same begger on Penn & 394 and gave him a few bucks a week. I won't give these guys anything because they seem way to organized to be actual homeless people.

Then to see begging teens taking over the various corners on Hiawatha. 4 at an intersection at a time. I never see anyone give to any of these people so I guess I just don't get their intentions.

When I was in AIT (Advanced Individualized Training - your 'job school in the Army), we had an off-post pass one weekend and went to Columbia, SC. After getting kicked out of around 4 bars or so, we decided to go for a walk and look for a cab. We just started walking and talking not paying any attention. A guy comes up and asks us if we have any change. One or two of us said they did and gave him a buck or two. So we kept walking and forgot about it. About 5 minutes later, a minivan-cab pulls up, slams on his brakes, and yells at us to get in the cab. Since we were looking for a cab anyway we hopped right in.

We get inside and he shuts and locks the doors and tells us to look around. There were I think 8 of us, and as we looked around there were in the neighborhood of 20 people turning around and going back into the shadows... He asks us if we were approached by a panhandler (a typical setup in the area), we told him our beggar story, and he says that guy is a lookout for these guys. They feel you out to see if you have any money, then they gang-mug you. It was easy to see that we were military, we all (the guys) had the same haircut, we all walked in step with each other, and everyone knew that we just got paid the day before. So, lucky for us we got picked up by the cabbie.

That is my big almost-got-mugged story.

I hope you gave him a big tip. And if so, that might have been his little scam as well. And even possibly in on it with the begger too. Either way, things are all good now. Good for you Z.

Thats way cool Kitch. But I still don't understand why we don't have a leap year on every fourth year that is a 100 unless it's divisible by 4 (as 1900 was NOT a leap year, but 2000 was)

I never even thought about the fact that your birthday would have different seasons.

My dad was born on leap day. Always something that interested me.

let's do a taste test...

I think but am not 100% sure that it is the poison in them that makes you do stupid stuff like yell "YIP, YIP" to strippers as they are blurring around on a pole in front of you... But ONLY when your dad is with you. This is completely hypothetical, of course...

"Magic" mushrooms, also known as 'shrooms or mushrooms, are species of mushrooms that contain the drugs psilocybin or psilocin. They belong to a family of drugs known as hallucinogens. Psilocybin is chemically related to both LSD and DMT.

Mushrooms containing psilocybin can be eaten in fresh or dried form. The mushrooms may be steeped into a tea, added to cooked foods or, in powder form, added to fruit juice. Psilocybin powder is also sold in capsules. However, when analyzed, these capsules usually turn out to be ordinary mushrooms laced with LSD or PCP.

Some poisonous mushrooms look like psilocybin mushrooms. A risk in using magic mushrooms is eating the wrong type of mushroom and being poisoned. Poisonous mushrooms can cause death or permanent liver damage.

soo...um no...they are different.

I know someone who grows them. I think you have to make sure they grow in a sterile enviroment, cause you have to be cautious of the poisonous spores coming in contact and contaminating the batch or something like that. I wasn't listening very well when it was being 'splained.
