I went up to Highland scouting the Disc Golf Course. Looks like it is in pretty good shape. There are a few dirt patches where the grass hasn't grown in yet, but on a sunny day like today it was beautiful.
The only hitch about the course is right now they don't have a map of the course itself, OR markers at the tee boxes. I ended up following around a bunch of college kids from Concordia just so I knew which direction to throw next. The 'hole' baskets have numbers at the top, but from the tee boxes you can't really read them. Even a popsicle stick in the ground with a number written with a Sharpie would help.
If the weather stays beautiful on Sunday, I'd be up for a match. Any takers? PM me with times.
I was just at Highland myself - wow! even since January the city has improved the park - it looks great- lots of discin out there- wish I coulda played.
That was the Mapleleaf. My cousins husbands family owned that place. I cut grass for them for a few weeks till I got sick of it. They had apple trees and they attracted bees. Really sucks cutting grass with bees and apples all over. I was only about 16 at the time.
We are in the Land of Ahhhs. We got here about 8 after going in and out of a couple rain showers and being blessed with two different rainbows. We unloaded the car, Inks grilled some burgers and we sat out on the deck listening to the frogs and watching the moon come up.
I sat out on my porch and listened to the Twins game on the radio. My man Gomez made a Puckett-style catch to end the game but almost knocked himself out doing it. Yeah, it was a nice evening.
I flipped through several radio stations yesterday afternoon after I got back from Highland.
Joe Soucheray on 1500 KSTP said yesterday was the official "Garage Door Opener" which is a Garage Logic kind of Holiday - the first Friday in Spring when the temperature hits 70 degrees. Open your garage door, have a cold one and do some power lounging while listening to the Twins. Couldn't agree more!
This is the radio I listen to. This isn't my radio. I found the picture online. It sat in our house until my father finally broke down and bought our first TV when I was 12 and then it was sent out to the front porch. It's been there ever since, year round. The amazing thing is that even sitting out there in sub-zero temps, it still works. You would think that the tubes would burn out. But there are even a couple of spare tubes in the back.
In my dotage I find myself channeling my parents, and one of my favorite memories is of my father sitting on the porch in the summer listening to the Twins games. So I do that too.
Have I ever mentioned that I adored my father? I used to try to make the honking sound he made when he blew his nose but was never successful.
That's not my radio, mrmikey. But a picture of one just like it. That's an album to hold the 78 rpm records. I have a bunch of them in my compartment too and choose one evening in the summer to play the ones that are still intact. Some real oldies in there, back to the '40's. "The Old Lamplighter" is my favorite.
My Mom used to play that Lamplighter on the piano and she and I would sing together. Good memories. One of the other ones she played that was a favorite of mine was Whispering Hope. My grandfather loved that song too.
The frogs are still singing this morning. Beautiful day in the neighborhood.
I googled "to do list" and was just amazed at all the choices out there! I didn't really think there was such a thing, but I shoulda known there would be. I conduct my life best when I can work from a fairly detailed list, but all the paper methods and online calendar task lists just don't pull it all together the way I'd like.
My sister-in-law has a "Honey-Do" list on the fridge for my brother to do - he's at home being Mr. Mom. It's in the shape and green color of a honeydew melon. My wife thought it was just so cute she had to get one herself.
That's just GRRRRRRRRREAT! :eyeroll:
If your lists are huge and expansive - your starter pack should probably be the 12 pack of Mini Legal pads from Office Max.
The trick is to hide them from the page eaters that live around the house. If you pull one out of the group, it becomes defenseless and at the mercy of the random page eaters. If you spread out the whole pack into different rooms, their pages all get eaten very quickly and soon you have none.
As long as you can keep a group of them locked safely together in a file cabinet, they can defend themselves from sacrificing too many pages. Then they may at least last until next payday.
I just found out that the 2nd half of the pitching rotation on my wiffleball team tore his ACL playing basketball yesterday. So, if any of y'all can pitch and are interested in playing wiffleball one night a week let me know.

Happy Birthday Otis!

Definately an evening of Ahhhhhhs.

He made the night a little brighter
Wherever he would go
The old lamplighter
Of long, long ago
His snowy hair was so much whiter
Beneath the candle glow
The old lamplighter
Of long, long ago
You'd hear the patter of his feet
As he came toddling down the street
His smile would cheer a lonely heart you see
If there were sweethearts in the park
He'd pass a lamp and leave it dark
Remembering the days that used to be
For he recalled when things were new
He loved someone who loved him too
Who walks with him alone in memories
He made the night a little brighter
Wherever he would go
The old lamplighter
Of long, long ago
His snowy hair was so much whiter
Beneath the candle glow
The old lamplighter
Of long, long ago
Now if you look up in the sky
You'll understand the reason why
The little stars at night are all aglow
He turns them on when night is near
He turns them off when dawn is here
The little man we left so long ago
He made the night a little brighter
Wherever he would go
The old lamplighter of long, long ago
Yea, I guess you did say that huh?
The frogs are still singing this morning. Beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Whispering Hope
Soft as the voice of an angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle persuasion
Whispers her comforting word:
Wait till the darkness is over,
Wait till the tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is gone.
Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.
If, in the dusk of the twilight,
Dim be the region afar,
Will not the deepening darkness
Brighten the glimmering star?
Then when the night is upon us,
Why should the heart sink away?
When the dark midnight is over,
Watch for the breaking of day.
Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.
Hope, as an anchor so steadfast,
Rends the dark veil for the soul,
Whither the Master has entered,
Robbing the grave of its goal.
Come then, O come, glad fruition,
Come to my sad weary heart;
Come, O Thou blest hope of glory,
Never, O never depart.
Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.
But then, my parents were 40 when I was born.
And I have the Reader's Digest songbook. :ooh:

I don't remember the cool sunglasses though :sheepish:
thanks, guys
Sorry we were late getting there.
If so, which one do you use?
What do you like about it?
Any advice about choosing and using one?
Thanks!
