reminded me of this ... I was talking to a friend of mine's little girl the other day. I asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up and she replied, 'I want to be President!' Both of her parents are liberal Democrats and were standing there. So then I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?'
She replied, 'I'd give houses to all the homeless people.'
'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where this homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward a new house.'
Since she is only 6, she thought that over for a few seconds. While her Mom glared at me, she looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?'
I just came back from the State Fair - parked in Grace Luth Church (next to the Roseville High School) and bussed into the fairgrounds with the wife.
I fulfilled my obligation to Cluey by eating a boat of cheese curds - and then some *urp*.
When I pulled out of the parking lot to leave at about 4:30, two fire trucks went screaming past- I guess we know when Iceman decided to start his "small" fire!
Things to note about the fair:
- Gotta get into line for Sweet Martha's before 1 pm - sheesh!
- O'Gara's has a booth in the Food Bldg around the corner from the Cheese Curds - they caught the news a few years ago with Corned Beef N' Cabbage on a stick - this year they also included "Leprechaun Legs" which is green beans deep fried in an Onion Flavored breading - they are DAMN good! (Taste a lot like onion rings)
- If anyone visits the Eco Experience Bldg on top of the hill (Mrs. Doxy is working there this eve), the Fine arts Building is next door. Inside the Fine Arts, someone submitted a large panoramic photo of the collapsed 35W bridge - about 3 ft wide.
The photo looks cool at first glance, but the I noticed something. If you look at the photo long enough, you'll see there is NO traces of human beings in the picture! Whomever did this panorama carefully erased any human beings and vehicles from the image - all the cars, buses, barges and cranes are gone! It is literally a photo of JUST the collapsed bridge structure itself - in stark "reality". I let out a loud "Holy Crap!" when I was looking at it and drew a small crowd over. You can stare at that thing for 20 minutes and NOT find a single digital "seam" in the picture - whomever did this thing in Photoshop spent a ton of hours cleaning it up. Very cool!
well I knew the Mad dog left the fair because we had about 12 cops FLY by here at about 90MPH and then nothing!! for a few mins then the fire trucks went by!! lol
I was thinking ares was coming over with his fireworks and they got wind of it and where stopping him at the City line!!! lol
Just a reminder I will be hosting a bunch of donkeys tonight!! not all of them Just most of them at the Blue fox!! in Shoreview Come out and see me and hang out!! you all know where it is!!!
The hubby has decided that it would be sacrilegious for us not to do the State Fair this year and since we were out of town this past weekend and again will be gone this coming weekend - Tuesday is our only night this week that we can go!
So by dashing the little girl's dream no work was actually done, no one got paid for anything, and all you have in the end is a Republican feeling smug that at least they were right!
I remember the bonfire at the place in Cottage Grove and someone told me Ares was coming with TC. And I was thinking, "Are they carpooling? Do they live close to each other?" Then when I was told they were dating I was like "Where did that come from?" But clearly there was no looking back it's been one of the better love stories of the people I've known in my life so congratulations.
I wrote this up yesterday for all the teams. Some of the information you already know, some details are new. And also it looks like RushHarley may be joining the fray after I ran into him at the State Fair.
A bold murder. A hidden stash of lost secrets. A series of puzzles that must be solved in 24 hours. Such is the story behind the Second Not Exactly Annual Twin Cities Treasure Hunt to take place starting on Saturday, September 13th. Get some friends together and take up the challenge put on by the Como Park Mason Lodge of St. Paul.
The event starts at 10am when all the teams will assemble at the Lodge, located at 1044 Front Ave., a block east of Lexington and just south of Como Park between Gabe's and the Half Time Rec. Breakfast will be served to all the teams (with a limit of 5 members per team). Then at 11am we will call up one member from each team, hand them the packet of clues, and the race is on.
The story is that the Freemasons chose Como Park Lodge to hide some of their ancient secrets. They are kept secure there under lock, key, and booby trap. Only the Grand Master knows the password. But in a shocking development, the Grand Master was just murdered and it is believed his killer was after these documents. The killer and his accomplices were caught, but the police lack evidence and will have to release them in 24 hours. Since they might have gotten the password before killing the Grand Master, it is imperative that the documents are recovered before they are released.
Even though no one else knew the password, the Grand Master did have a backup plan and left a clue to it through a series of puzzles. It is believed he knew his life was in danger and consequently he set these puzzles throughout his home. The Masons know the password is eight letters. However there are 10 puzzles. One of them is a series of pictures, each relating to a letter. The Masons believe they have figured out that 8 of the puzzles each lead to a location. If you can find the item in one of the pictures at that location, that must mean the corresponding letter is part of the password. Each of these puzzles has a symbol on it and they think the symbols must somehow tell you the order of the letters. The last puzzle, with no symbol on it, has eight items. They suspect it must offer hints as to how to solve the other puzzles.
Unfortunately that is as far as they have gotten. Consequently they have put out a call for help, offering $500 in reward money to the group of people that can help them solve the puzzles and be the first one to recover the documents.
This is a fundraiser for Como Park Mason Lodge. Consequently there is an entrance fee of $100 per team. Teams are limited to 5 official members. Only official members are allowed into the Lodge. However you are free to solicit help from other people if they wish to contribute.
The hunt starts at Como Park Mason Lodge when the clues are distributed at 11am. They will lead you to 8 different locations around town. These locations are limited to an area bounded on the east and west by the two donwtowns and bounded on the north and south by the city limits of St. Paul and Minneapolis. All locations should be accessible around the clock. Once there, you will need to figure out which of 24 pictures was taken there which will then tell you that the letter corresponding to that picture is in the password. Each puzzle also has a symbol on it and if you can figure out the order of the symbols, that will tell you the order of the letters. Once you know the password, return to the Mason Lodge. Someone will be there around the clock. Try the password on the padlocks and if they open, you may then attempt to disarm the final booby trap.
The first team to disarm the final booby trap and recover the documents will win $300. Also, at each location there will be a padlock. Each team will get one key that opens half the padlocks and another key that opens the other half. Teams will then get a $25 prize for every padlock they return to the Lodge which should prove they were the first one to get to that location.
Teams that do not win, but still manage to complete the challenge within 24 hours will get a certificate for each member of the team to document the accomplishment. Teams should register by September 6th to David Allison at AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com. To register simply provide your team name and a contact person (and their contact information). Registration fees will be collected the day of the hunt and we will verify the final team membership at that time.
Our first hunt was quite a success with every team saying they really had a lot of fun. So don't let another one go by without participating!
I am down And I like the same teams But I wouldn't mind helping each other out this time!! if there are going to be more teams of unknowing oargens!! but if it is the same as last time I wouldn't mind having it fight for your self!! lol
Subject change: I finished my first woodworking project using Mikey's former speakers. I made a lamp. I cut 14 in. x. 3.5 in. planks out of the side of the speakers, then mitred the sides. I ran them through my router using a 1/4 in. round bit four times. Then I glued them together. I cut a 4 in. square top and ran the edges through the router using a 1/4 in. roman ogee bit, and a 5 in. square piece for the bottom. Bought a lamp kit at home depot for $5, and a lamp shade at target for $15. Stained it mahogany red, which is the only part I'm not entirely happy with - it looks more like it's painted than it looks like it's stained. but, the stain was kind of cool, it was a gel stain, so it didn't require a brush.
Still have one speaker left to use. I might make a 2nd and give it to Mike as thanks for the wood.
you are right, I don't think David navigates around AM's or had the time or even remembers how to get there is probably all. This was an easy place to let everyone know - not a problem, we will talk about it there when it begins.
Sounds like Mall of America is going to be busy next week because of the RNC. They have 350 cops camping out there all week and even I have to do a 10hr stint on the roof next thursday because the RNC welcoming committie guys wanna make trouble I guess. Might be a lot of action at MOA suposedly. You'd think it would be more downtown St Paul, but who knows? http://www.nornc.org/
the lines havent been as big, lately though...
they're opening a new Sonic, in Savage, in a couple of days...
She replied, 'I'd give houses to all the homeless people.'
'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. And I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'
Her folks still aren't talking to me.
