The person with the screen name known as Wicked Nick has been banned from this forum because of results stemming from a long investigation that also included pertinent information obtained by the site administrators.
This decision was made by a vote within the CCRC moderators.
That Cabela's is HUGE. It's very nicely done. The one in Rogers is even bigger. Now my sister has to worry about the Rogers one cuz her husband spends a fortune on hunting and fishing stuff.

hmmmmmm..... I just received an egram from wicked nick who is banned. He said that he was banned for something he didn't do... and I understand that it has been proven that he used more than one name on here and infact contacted me under one of the false names. He pointed out that his actions affected only 3 people... I guess I beg to differ. suppose a lot of people will be getting that egram... just my $.02.
I think Nick is on a bad downward spiral, and I hope those people that consider him a friend continue to reach out to him independent of postings here. I've spent some time with him over the summer and I think he is in great pain and would like to help him get out of the rut that he fully admits and says he's in. I second Tim's earlier post that I hope to see him in line this January.
That being said, harassment affects the whole group, not just the specific people involved in the situation. I'd hate to see this particular situation turn into another "group vs. group" situation. A decision was made that all identities from that IP address are banned, and I support it.
I think it's great that the moderators did their job right - that independent of friendship they did what was right for the whole lot of people here.
All in all, a sad situation, and I'm cautiously optimistic that this will not splinter and move forward as a group.
Finally, I don't think it's right to talk behind people's back secretly - so I will be communicating the crux of what I've said here to Nick privately as well.
I haven't received the egram from Nick, but I don't suspect I will since I don't know him well. That being said, I am not comfortable with his banning. This is a public board with no set posting guidelines. The moderators made a decision without consulting other members of this board. Given that we don't have a code of conduct, I'd like our moderation to be more transparent.
I think that is a really good point bear. I am not saying this because I hate nick... I am saying this because it has been proven that he did something that is unacceptable. Harassment (and that is what has been proven) is not acceptable. By looking the other way or even letting him explain why that might be acceptable we are in part condoning it. I think Nick needs some help and I really hope he gets it. I have nothing against the guy other than I don't condone his actions.
I think that the people who know Nick personally and consider him a friend - or anyone should seek him out and get his side of the story should they want to know it. He still can come on to ableminds and touch base with friends and you can still egram him here, he's just not posting in the Cooler Crew forum.
I have and will probably continue to contact Nick. I would like to see him get the help I think he needs. However, there are people on this board (this includes me) that dont know details of the situation. I dont necessarily want to know the details. But I think he has every right to defend himself. That is my only point. His banning here and the circumstances from those involved has been posted from their view, but not from his. I think that is my only point.
I want to reiterate again that I do not want to downsize what TMK and Rosie and whoever else has been involved has had to go through.

Practically speaking I think you're wrong, Payme. If you want to make an informed decision and get both sides, that's great - but then you need ALL the details.
THat being said, I don't know all the details. I'm supporting the decision of banning because if someone is harassing another - through whatever medium, I think they should be denied access to that medium.
I am not necessarily posting that for me. I am posting that for those who may know Nick but at this point are not friends with him (yet). These are crew members who deserve to be able to hear both sides.
In terms of a code of conduct, isn't a common sense code enough?

Agreed... and I don't think anyone has the right to tell people who they should contact outside the cooler... I think people should keep contacting nick. I did respond to his egram and if he egrams me again I probably will respond. And I do encourage people to get the facts... when you have them it is pretty clear cut situation.

one would have to know which ip address nick was coming from in order to spoof that address. which, imho, is equally as wrong.
this isn't a public board. no one has an implicit right to post here, just because they exist. in fact, you have to be a registered user of the site in order to even see this folder, as opposed to when we were at pf where it was a free-for-all.
I think that in order to ban a member for conduct they feel is uncalled for then a set of rules must be established for the community as a whole should abide by.
There have been some pretty nasty fights in here. And luckily they all turned out well....but none of us were banned for that.

I was up at Whitefish Point a few weeks ago. It is a lot different from when I was a kid. There is a nice museum, a little movie about the ship, etc.
