I guess it depends on the day, somedays it is really backed up and somedays its normal. And the stoplights are the reason for the construction, they are making it a freeway.
nope. no one would stop there otherwise. i do think, however, that mndot has their priorities way way way too screwed up. the stretch of 694 from lexington to the us 10 exit is in bad need of a lane realignment, and the stretch of 94 between 120 and mcknight desperately needs an extra lane. on top of that, whoever made the decision to not build the 169 and 494 interchange as a full 8-way interchange should be fired.
Any of you ever been to that stretch of road down there past that Red Rock bowling alley place?
It "was" a pretty decent place to catch some racing on the weekends, until recently.... they decided to put up some barrier things like half way down the road, and now it sucks some ass. ah well.
yeah that used to be the best place to race, but there are others in cottage grove as long as you set up the race before hand. with red rock you could just go down there and everyone was looking for a race.
I used to race there behind North Star Steel back in the early 80's. I'm surprised that it wasn't shut down years ago. I'm glad many more years of racing took place before it was. Fun times. I suppose it's a lot of those small foreign cars now, but the idea is probably still the same. I'm sure a place will open up soon. It always does. We used to use 100th street out by Grey Cloud too until the houses started to come in. Did you see that they took out that Bailey road bridge this weekend? Boy does the look up to Woodbury from 61 look different. This whole project is way, way past due. Now we have only 7 more years to put up with the BS in the mean time. People won't even know where Newport is any more when it's finished.
LL - I hope things work out and there's a solution found for all of you. Anytime you want to talk, I would be happy to listen. You're not alone in this...though at the time it feels like it. The other thing you can do is check with your family doctor. Often they have resources to refer you to.
I slept great last night up until about 3am when I started dreaming about needing to go vote - over and over and over again. Got up once to walk around and try to get the dream machine unstuck - and went back to bed to find out that didn't work. Sure hope I don't have that happen again tonight.
Hope you all have a way cooler day! See yaz later!
Yeah... it'll still exist... I mean come on.. theres both an S.A. and a Holiday station within a couple blocks, that are both open 24 hours, ninja. It'll just be one of them small ass places that travellers stop at in the middle of the night for grub and drinks n maybe to take a shit if the bathrooms are clean. Plus... theres some stores around there too.... and aint that lil go kart track still around there someplace?
yeah, vj, but it'll effectively be a ghost town. same thing with north saint paul if they ever do the same thing to 36 through there. of course my personal feeling is that if the only reason the city is surviving is because of the stop lights, it really ought to reconsider what its strengths and weaknesses are as a city.
Newport should maybe start a campaign to revitalize their spot on the river. Other than that (and the go-carts of course) they won't have anything to draw commuters off of 61. Those 24 hour stations will go to 16 hour stations in no time. Use all the free (bad) press that their getting now to bring positive attention to the town. I personally don't think they can do it. I lived there in the 80's and Newport was designated as the worst crime town in Minnesota per capita. I'm not sure if they ever broke that streak or not. They might be heading in some positive direction as I came across some big buck houses up on the hill while geocaching last week. It must not be all that bad I guess.
thanks ter, I found him again and then he took off cuz I called the police, they found him and brought him home and called the mobile crisis team from youth services, hope this will help him to communicate with us a little better, they also gave us some other options for him, have you ever heard of the neighborhood house? I'm not sure if it's a shelter or just a place for him to hang out.
LL - Sounds like you're getting yourself surrounded with some help. Good deal!! I know there's Neighborhood House on the west side - but there are others around too. Many are shelters - safe places to run to and to have some counselors to talk to when they get there. Others are places for them to transition to independent living where that's appropriate. Take their lead - they deal with runners often - ask lots of questions and be sure to ask for any services you might be able to get to help you deal with all this.
Yes there is a small portion of very wealthy people in Newport, up on the hill. And the A&W has been a few different things, it isn't A&W anymore, but it is still a drive in(seasonaly), and a Christmas tree lot. I think all those businesses will go out of value when they get into the main construction fase in that area, and there aren't any cars going right past them, but I am not sure what the plans are for that... it will be highly valued land when 61 is freeway...

is that down 61 in cottage grove, vj? if so i thinki know what you're talking about.

Yeah...Ares... its actually in Newport, not Cottage Grove... but close enough.

you have to respect a place with both go karts and a batting cage and mini golf and a driving range...

One of those lives in my area.
We see it in the parking lot of the supermarket quite often, and marvel at it each and every time....

Did You Know:
The name Wakota Bridge is derived from the combination of the
Washington and Da kotaCounty names.

i did not know that.
Heh... yeah, thats kinda like the Earl Street bridge... its part of Earl Street..

Good Morning!
The box to type a post into isn't showing up on the hunt board so I'll post here.
I slept in this morning much longer than I had planned on - but it sure felt good.
I understand the clue comes out at noon. I might as well hang out here and wait for it.
