i gotta admit though. it would be kinda nice to be 16 or 17 again. ya know when it was still acceptable to check out the scantily-clad 16 and 17-year old girls at the pool or on the beach (sunglasses were definitely a must during the old lifeguarding days ;)
being 17 is great though, one of the last times in my life where I can be unemployed and not really worry about it too much. I wish I were old enough to vote though. I feel like a pay attention to politics a lot more than a lot of "adults" that get to vote. Oh well, I can influence both of my parents, so that is like having 2 votes!
Well Tim could be is a good position- buy into stocks--they are as low as when I was in highschool-I should have bought then - but same problem occurs now as back then...no $$$ to invest.
Why would I vote for Mondale??? To make it very very simple and short: Norm Coleman sucks. He doesn't stand for anything, I am very upset at the death of Wellstone I was a huge fan of Paul. Mondale would be Wellstone's choice, and he is the choice of Wellstone's family.
I am a senior at Park and I am loving it! I am soooooo eager to get out of there it is unbelievable.
You don't have to pay too many taxes yet Tim - wait til you have a house. I agreed with many ideas of both candidates -Coleman & Wellstone - but just because Mondale is a Democrat does not mean that he has the same views as Wellstone-keep that in mind and do your research :)
Last week, Mondale would have voted for the US to send troops into war where Wellstone was practically the only one to vote against it as a Democrat-Mondale is of the old school Democrats and will vote differently than Wellstone would have on issues.
Mondale is of the old school Democrats and will vote differently than Wellstone would have on issues.
No doubt. I'm glad they chose Mondale. He's moderate enough Democrat for me. Unlike Wellstone who was far out in left field all by himself. He's no Norm but, I'd be happy now no matter who wins.
I understand that Mondale does not necessarily have the same views as Wellstone just because he is a Democrat. It is highly unlikely that anyone out there has the same exact views as Wellstone. I just was giving the short reason, a isue by issue breakdown would be ridiculous and I don't feel like doing that much typing, and I would have to do some research as well. I do know that in general I agree with Democratic principles, but not ALL of them, obviously. Taxes are a key component to any election, and while I do not pay property taxes, I do pay a large amount in sales taxes and some income taxes(although I get most of it back). I consider myself a very compassionate person and I realise that I am well to do compared to most so I do not mind paying taxes, because in some way it is helping another person that needs it, or it is even helping me. Now government wastefullness is another issue, but voting Republican in not going to help that. Another key issue is the pending war with Iraq... If the republicans get the Senate, we are all in a lot of trouble. Especially COleman who doesn't have a mind of his own, he wouldn't cross a party line, he will vote with his boy Bush. I am strongly opposed to the war, and war in general, so that has to be one of the biggest issues as of now...
If Mondale indeed will vote for a war on Iraq, then we are screwed aren't we. I did not know that he supports the war, even though he was in the Army many years ago....
the news of Wellstone's death was especially upsetting to me because I am out there on the the far left with Wellstone on many key issues. He has been called the "conscience" of the Senate, and that seems to be a very true label for him.
I consider myself a very compassionate person and I realise that I am well to do compared to most so...
You should give to charity.
If Mondale indeed will vote for a war on Iraq, then we are screwed aren't we. I did not know that he supports the war, even though he was in the Army many years ago....
Wellstone himself supported war with Iraq, until we got a Republican Presidency. He had no problems with it at all when Clinton was President.
He has been called the "conscience" of the Senate, and that seems to be a very true label for him.
He's been called a lot of other things too. Especially by me. :-)
Political threads where everyone gets mad and yells their views on issues and no one actually changes their mind, people just argue?
I remember a mock election in high school. I didn't vote for Carter though. I voted for Ford ;-) That had to have been third grade and I seem to recall the major issue was whether you thought cars or peanuts were more cool. Funny how politics hasn't really evolved that much since then for many people.
As for Wellstone being "out there", thankfully he was. In a Republican dominated government, at a time when people are afraid of anything different, at least one person represented the voice of the other side. The day everyone agrees is the day we have ceased to be America.
As for voting for Mondale, I plan to. I'd rather not see either party control the House, Senate, and presidency. Especially at a time when people are more likely to act out of fear than benevolence.
Boy has our little Timmers grown up. Wow. More kids need to be into politics. I found the easiest way to show how important your vote is, is to show that, depending oh how many non-voters there are, your one vote can actually equal hundreds of votes that weren't cast. Given the last presidential election, it might be more apparent now. Although the primaries sure didn't show it. Too bad. Maybe this Wellstone thing will bring politics to the forefront again. Lets just hope. I hate when people bitch about their government and never even bothered to vote. I look at voting as a opportunity to defend yourself when bitching about something. At least you tried to do something about it.
Hey Tim, is Gray, Thorsell, Martinson, Davis, Ferlak, Gilbertson, Janacek or King still at Park? It's been 20 years since I graduated so the names might be relics now. Just curious. Thanks
I remember a mock election in school. I voted for Kennedy over Nixon. Interesting to look back at that.
I remember when Jimmy Carter ran. He was thought to be that fresh honest politician after the Watergate mess of the Nixon years. He was fresh and honest. I loved the man as a human being, but as president we darn near lost our shirts! That was when you could get darn near 20% interest on a certificate of deposit. It also cost you plenty of interest on a home loan.
And for you statement that Norm only votes party lines. What do you think that Paul did? Give me some proof that Paul ever crossed party lines. I don't think he ever did. Voting against going to war was not crossing party lines he just held to a stronger conviction than other democrats.
i wasn't even in school when reagan was first elected :)
My kids got to actually vote at the polls this last Presidential election. Now imagine how to explain 'chads' to them afterwards!
The kids love to go with us when we vote-
I personally love the 'I Voted' sticker afterwards :)

smart-ass

You and Scribe both.
me3 about the "i voted" stickers.

It's like I tell my daughter: "Like this - ::snaps fingers:: - you'll be as old as I am".
Time flys. It seems just like yesterday I was graduating from H.S. That was over 15 years ago now.
see and the line i usually hear is "if you keep talking like that you won't live to see my age".
Ooooh, that's a good one!
I'll have to start using that.
I remember that too! I forget what grade I was in but, I voted for Carter..... and he lost. :-(
I think Carter won the mock election in our class. Are you class of '87 THX?
86
The same year ares was born.
Just kiddin', ares.
yeah yeah yeah. sure you are :)

he always strikes at the most opportune times :)

well said, me2.

That sounds pretty accurate.
hehehe, I see that THX is a Norm Coleman fan. Thats great, good luck with that. I suppose you like dubbaya too?
Yes, I do like Norm. I can't say I "Like" Dubya, but I dislike him less than I dislike Gore.
I was actually pretty hard on Dubya during the election.
Anyway, I'm not going to bore people here with politics. You're welcome to come over to the political threads in "In The News"...... or not.
:-)
yeah, maybe I will take you up on that offer soon...

Remember that you have your freedom beacuse of war.
Also remember, you have your oil because of war.
Also remember, we'd be a third world nation without oil.
