Good Evening!
Getting lots of little things done around here that are starting to add up. I'll be ready for vacation yet.
Daughter came home with a carnation in a vase tonight. A customer brought the arrangement in for her from someone outside. The card said from a secret admirerer. It's only her 4th day on the job there! Hope it's not some stalker.
I ended up getting a reservation for December 6-8. The availability wasn't what I had hoped. I got a 2 bedroom with a loft that does sleep 10 people (queen bed in each bedroom, king bed in the loft, sofa sleeper in the living room, and sofa sleeper in the family room) plus it has a 5 person hopt tub. So what do you think? Is that weekend doable for the people that wanted to go?
That's a bit more difficult AW, I shouldn't have to work but its gonna be a hella busy time. Maybe if I can get everything I need to done in Nov....
I'll say maybe for now, but if you can't find 10 people I'll make it work. Marleys still unsure (he likes the luxury aspect, but not sure about the mystery part) but he knows I really want to go. I'll try to get a straight answer out of him this weekend.
Allison - December weekends just don't work for us. Too many family things going on...birthdays and Christmas celebrations with various family groups. Sure sounds like fun though. We actually looked into buying into that resort at one time. Nice place!
After today's work, we're on vacation for a week!!! Nothing particular planned - just loose ideas with a take-it-as-it-comes schedule. I can hardly wait for today to be done!!
i'm actually not sure about doing anything before christmas, aw. mostly because of the shedload of work i end up with at the tail end of our release cycle at work, which we're now approaching. combine that with the 2+ weeks of vacation i'm taking between now and the end of the year, well that makes things quite tight.
well, hes only been home a couple of days and I already caught him ditching school again! went up to the school and it sounds like I have a pretty good chance of getting him transfered over to johnson, I guess hes still having problems with some kids and is afraid to go to school. at least at johnson it's close enough for me to drive him to school and make sure he goes! Highland is just too far. anyway, superior shores sounds like a blast! thats where we stayed for our honeymoon, we just have to check to see what kids we have and if we can find someone to take them for the weekend, so we are a maybe for now.
oooooh, I am planning on attending the Michael W Smith concert that Friday night (Dec 6) as a birthday present to myself.
oh, and I noticed everyone concerned about sleeping arrangements...I will just sleep IN the hottub... is there just 1 bathroom? Thats a better question.
Really THX? I would think you and Scribe knew the name-arn't you both Catholic? He is a contemporary christian/pop singer. Last time I heard he was married with 8 children. His voice leaves me with a 'toasty golden spice' feeling.
And Ares, we both may not be able to go--if you have work and I'm at the concert.
The only Contemporary Christian music I like is the Techno or Ambient genres and to be honest with you, the "secular" Techno/Ambient music is much better.
Us Christians just don't make very good music in my mind.
You sound like my husband with country music- he cannot stand it! and cannot stand anyone who changes from country to pop-he says they still sounds country!
Way too funny. Watching the Weekest Link...There is a man from Roseville MN (cool), There is a woman named Victoria (which that street runs through Roseville I think -among other people we know by the same name and used in clues for treasure hunts ;) )and one of the questions was 'what cartoon is scrappy doo in?' hehehehe TMK must be writing the questions for the show. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Brad from Roseville is the first guy off!
As for January, I don't believe the place I wanted was available in January. If December doesn't work, it would then have to be February, after the hunt, or even into March if we skip the murder mystery and just do it the same week as Fitger's.
Basically what happens is there's a murder. Sometimes the murder takes place at the event, sometimes it has taken place beforehand and the suspects are all just gathered together. Then you have to figure out who the killer is by collecting evidence. If the murder has taken place at the event, there may be physical evidence to examine. If it took place before, then you usually have to figure it out simply listening to what everyone knows. It's like a big jigsaw puzzle and everyone has one or two pieces of the puzzle, but no one but the killer knows the whole truth unless the others can put it together.
I did one before (that I wrote) for my singles club. The thing was set in the 1980's pop music scene. A rock star (similar to Freddie Mercury) had died in what appeared to be a drowning accident. But then the executive of the record company got the autopsy report and found out he had been drugged with muscle relaxers before his daily swim. The people at the dinner were the executive, his assistant, the victim's longtime girlfriend, the lead guitarist of the band, a few other artists under the same recording label that he had crossed before, a studio technician he had had an affiar with, and the band's agent. Everyone had a reason to want the guy dead. He was leaving the band and the record label for a new solo career. The record company would have made more money by having him dead and collecting the insurance. His lead guitarist and girlfriend were having an affair and would have been better off with him dead, and collecting an inheritance than they would have been if he had just left them. The studio technician felt jilted as did two of the other female artists he had had affairs with (one punk star, one folk singer). The agent had been stealing money from the band and the victim found out about it. There was also a German rock star whose little sister killed herself after the victim took her virginity and then dumped her. So pretty much everyone wanted the guy dead.
The way to figure it out was first to realize that the drugs got into his system from something he ate at lunch, which was in the autopsy report. Then they had to figure out what he ate that no one else did. A couple of people knew that the victim had an odd like of eating his shrimp with peanut butter and then realized that the peanut butter was something only he ate and that the killer, if they knew him well enough, would know that only he would eat it. Then it became a matter of figuring out who had the opportunity to drug the peanut butter by figuring out who was where and when that day. It turned out to be the record company executive's assistant. They also had to figure out that she was secretly in love with him and that her motive was to kill the victim to collect the insurance for the record company so as to save it for the man she loved.
So that's kind of how it works. At the end, when everyone feels they have revealed everything they know, and no one has any more questions, you take a vote. Everyone says who they think the killer is. In this one, about half the people got the right person and the other half voted for other people.
I cannot go Dec 6th -you can just miss me :) Do what works for you all - I would love to go - but another time - I got FRONT ROW for Michael W Smith!!!
I would like to do the murder mystery thing, I've never done one and have always thought it would be fun. I know I can get a yes from Marley if its in Feb, March would be a 50/50 chance (and I know I work atleast 2 weeks that month)
We're vacationing! So far this vacation has proved interesting.
We got a late start this morning so were on the road shortly before noon. As we did the 35E - 694 - 35E thing, we saw there had been what appeared to be a pretty serious accident on the other (north) side of 694. Traffic on that side of the freeway was at a standstill, several emergency vehicles and at least 3 ambulances were on the scene with a couple more emergency vehicles fighting their way through the stand still traffic. We just heard on the news that the jaws of life had been needed to free the people in the one car but that none of the injuries appeared life threatening. What a miracle when you see the shape that car was in.
Inks drove the step van today as we were going to store it up here for the winter. He blew a hose just south of Willow River. We had to have it towed and they will fix it on Monday. Bummer as he just had it checked over. Our car insurance has roadside assistance - if you carry comprehensive on the vehicle. That truck only has liability so we get to pay the towing charges in addition to the repair.
One of the reasons we got a late start is that Inks had to pick up a refill for a prescription he takes. That refill made it up here fine. Turns out we left the other one on the counter in the kitchen. We'll have to see if we can get a few days worth of that prescription for the week.
But am I happy to be on vacation?!?!? You betcha!!!!
Bright, sunny and beautiful blue skies greeted us this morning.
We're headed to brunch and then maybe Duluth afterwards. With this sunshine, the colors will be spectacular...and it's time for me to get in touch with the big lake again. It's been too long.
my aunt has hosted a couple murder mystery partys and everyone says that they are really fun, she actually has everyone dress up for them,I think the last one she had, my mom was dressed like those old time pictures that you have done at vally fair, she said she had a blast.
That murder mystery outing sounds like fun!! I love to watch Poirot and Nero Wolf mysteries on TV. And of course Agatha Christie. They are SO sneaky!
Terry your fall avatar is perfect for the season!!
It is so beautiful here today, but staying chilly. Only about 40. My cat who will take any opportunity to sneak outside is very contented to sit in the window after being out there for an hour! He sure blends in with the fallen leaves though...chipmunks beware!
Today was simply perfect. Blue skies, great fall color and a chance to converse with the great lake. We picked up a pie from Betty's Pies just north of Two Harbors, had a pumpkin pie blizzard from DQ...FABULOUS!!...and bought some smoked fish from Russ Kendall's in Knife River. That will be a treat for later this evening and the pie we'll savor off and on during the week.
This is just a quick delurk to tell you I'm sorry about the Twins. Y'all got a bunch of scrappers up there, but that bullpen...I guess they just got a bad case of nerves at the wrong time.
looking forward to the point in time when the manufactured snow will stick to the sides of the mountain, terry! as for the outing, i think we've pretty much scrapped the idea of going on the 6th. i mean me2 won't be there, i probably won't be there, and without us there really is no party :) i believe the last thing aw was throwing around was sometime in feb. after the pp hunt and before his.
thanks for the condolences, orca. best of luck to your group of scrappers too.

Thanks for the pics Me2! Way cooler!
Have a great finally Friday everyone!
It will be about solving a mystery, like a treasure hunt! Nothing scary about it.
Good Morning!
Happy Finally Friday everyone!!

by the way Allison, would it be $80.00 for both of us or $80.00 a piece?
oooooh, I am planning on attending the Michael W Smith concert that Friday night (Dec 6) as a birthday present to myself.
oh, and I noticed everyone concerned about sleeping arrangements...I will just sleep IN the hottub... is there just 1 bathroom? Thats a better question.
Who's Michael W Smith?
...I will just sleep IN the hottub...
only if you can get me outof it. unless of course you're planning on...nevermind. ;)
AW-Is there a chance of getting the 2nd weekend in January? Ares thinks a pre-hash bash at this place would be fun.
I was thinking-we should have a re-hash-hash bash- the bash after the re-hash bash!
we should have that somewhere that has a huge jacuzi! That could be at that place up north too!
And Ares, we both may not be able to go--if you have work and I'm at the concert.
damn ;)
on the other hand we would still have to work out our hot tub sleeping arrangements if this were to happen on the 2nd weekend in january.
oh man-not that kind of 'hash' Marley ;) but if that will get you there, so be it.
He is a contemporary christian/pop singer.
Scribe might have heard of him but I haven't.
Of course I can't stand Christian Pop/rock.
The only Contemporary Christian music I like is the Techno or Ambient genres and to be honest with you, the "secular" Techno/Ambient music is much better.

oh man - the one woman is a nanny in New York -she says she watches a 5 year old that carries a cell phone and gets manacures!!!!!!
you busy, me2?
you want to Kamakazi?
Watermelonor Raspberry?
I'll take Raspberry
GO!
cuz we may as well get this out of our system in case we both end up at the place on superior.
oh sure. that leaves me with the watermelon, huh?
I WIN ::shot glass hits the table first::
yeah, but it looks like you missed a drop. right. over. here.
oh my!
your just reaching for your jacket right?
If I wern't married that would have given butterflies.
uh. yeah. why were you drinking over my jacket?
so since you aremarried whad did it give you?
LL, it would be $80 a person I'm afraid.
As for January, I don't believe the place I wanted was available in January. If December doesn't work, it would then have to be February, after the hunt, or even into March if we skip the murder mystery and just do it the same week as Fitger's.
Feb would make a mighty nice B-day trip for me :-) (and you too AW?)
I'm a January guy. My birthday usually falls around the start of the Medallion Hunt as well as the start of Aquarius.
ooh. drop the murder mystery aspect of it and i'll be putting my spirit season pass to good use methinks. :)
Just a thought. I'd rather do the murder mystery myself as well but just wanted to see if others felt the same way.
so seriously. is the murder mystery thing like a real-life version of clue?
Have you never done one or seen one?
Basically what happens is there's a murder. Sometimes the murder takes place at the event, sometimes it has taken place beforehand and the suspects are all just gathered together. Too bad those Twins lost.
ares - Thought of you today as we passed the sign for Spirit Mountain along the freeway. There was snow up in this neck of the woods last night.
We also passed Superior Shores today too. What day is currently being discussed for that outing?
Hey gang,
This is just a quick delurk to tell you I'm sorry about the Twins. Y'all got a bunch of scrappers up there, but that bullpen...I guess they just got a bad case of nerves at the wrong time.

What you doing in here Orca?
I lurk every now and then, Frosti. I occasionally like to hear from (or in this case, read about) people who don't live on either coast;-)
Just curious. Thought maybe you were slumming. ;)
