Operation Nightcap continues tonight. It's a holiday drunk driving crackdown, so officers will be out in full force for New Year's Eve.
More than 70 law enforcement agencies from around the state are participating, including officers from all seven metro counties and the Minnesota State Patrol.
To do your part, remember to designate a driver or call a cab if you're going to be drinking.
There are about 30,000 arrests for drunk driving in Minnesota each year.

*doesnt' take a genius to guess this was happening!!!
Funny how us drunks know where the bad spots are. I'll bet you know the exact routes around those areas as well. I know that I do.
On a similar note - I plan on quitting drinking for awhile. I'm sure that'll change during the hunt but I just want to see if I can do it. It might even help the lady cut down as well. So if I seem a bit bitchy in the new year, just slap me and pull me back to reality. ;-)
Man - I'm way bored here at work. I have to wait until 7:00 so we can close out a building. Ho Humm. This is a first for me. I can't remember a time where I didn't even feel like finding work to do.
For all those that care I will be a at work and not getting paid for it. Some silly idiot in management decided that the company observed holiday was going to be Monday the 3rd and not the 1st. So even though I'm working on New years I get paid normal time.
Also, a few people have asked where the meet the crew page went from the cooler times site. I need a couple days to get the profiles "persay" strightened out. Some people have no info and other have old info that doesn't apply. the space seems a bit cluttered to me and since I suspect we might have a fair amount of traffic I don't want us to put on a bad show!
I will have the link back up in like the next week. If you have info that needs to be updated or you wanna see something up there, let me know. Lets make it simple... send this info to webmaster@coolertimes.com include pics and such to the email. I have a few days off on Mon & Tues so the sooned I get the info the sooner I can get it back up and going :). You can view it's current status on the link below till I add the link on the main site again.
Well I just spent about $48.000.00 for this degree and I have to start making payments in 6 months not to mention a new baby to feed, cloth and care for.
I just about had a hart attack shoveling my walk this morning, man I am out of shape. Thats what I get for going to school for 18 months training for a desk job=)
Talk about a f**ked up way to begin a year!! My Father (who has alzheimers) was admitted to the ER from the nursing home because he was discovered to be in a coma. The coma was diagnosed as an effect of severe dehydration. It seems that this facility we pay $4500.00 a month for his care was on a "Holiday" staff, and did not provide my Dad with any food, or water for 4 days. His blood sodium level was 169- which I found out is usually fatal. somehow, my Father lived. He was discovered by a "visiting nurse" who risked her job by calling the ambulance, and when the hospital calles his nursing home for his medical charts, they refused to give them. My dad will not recover. The chances of him even coming out of this comatose state are very slim. All because the people who are paid to care for him did not provide him with water. ...And I AM PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be speaking with a lawyer tomorrow. Sorry to dump- but glad you are here.
dang, that is really messed up. Firstly I hope and pray your father recovers, even to beat all odds. Secondly, I hope that this nursing home either is completely revamped (I mean all staff/everything gone, redone and a new competent staff is hired) or shut down permanently. There's no excuse for their actions.
This is a 10 bed facility! It's not like a bazillion people reside there. I get calm, then I get sad, then I get pissed, then I cool off. I'm in alien territory right now. Â I always feel that I have a positive slant on things- but not with this. I vascillate- and want to scream, and hit, and cry- so I went and scraped ice from my sidewalks.......and the people across the alley- and this old lady down the block... ...Good practice for the hunt, I guess. I will either be into it 100%, or very little- I do not know. I may need this hunt just to keep my humor level up.
Err- JOE! My wish is the facility is not shut down. This is WAY up on the Iron Range, and the facility is a needed shelter for those with alzheimers, but I would like to see it re-vamped. I think it needs to be addressed- Big Time! My Mother went into the peace corps at age 66 because it was the best way she thought of to deal with my dad's condition after he had been admitted into the nursing home. She lived in Africa for 3 years to try and get past what happened to her husband. The story goes deeper- My father worked as a millright for the Reserve Mining Co. for 36 years. This past fall, at his mother's funeral- my Dad's former boss - (The mining co. went bankrupt) informed us that as a millright, my dad had to sign waivers every 6 months stating he would not hold the mining company responsible for any ill health effects his job may cause. He was using cleaning fluids that were equal to inhaling tolulene every day, 40 hours a week, for 36 years. He did this because it afforded him the ability to earn $25.00 + per hour back in the 1960's. Both my parents worked hard to raise their family up in Ely, before the town became a trendy tourist area. After the Reserve Mine closed- the EPA moved in- shutting down the entire area where these chemicals were used to clean engines. This substance (I cannot EVEN get the name of)has beed illegalised, and is now in a clean-up state. So my dad goes "nuts" at age 60- shows symptoms of someone with an inhalation addiction,he had served in the Army durinf the end of wwii, and part of the Korean war, gave us the best- and then the state took away his pension, and military aid, because the company had his affidavits on file....................Shit. And he was getting a bit better- he was really withdrawn, not talking etc.... and a new doctor started to wean him off all the tranqs he was on, and 3 weeks ago, he got into a wheelchair, and asked if they could order Pizza Hut. The nursing home was on a "holiday staff" My dad had a UTI, a fever, and was given NO FU**ING water. My Mom is now 73, and still has to work part time, because there is no extra money allowed from the state, or her children because it makes her look like she has too much money. The state monitors her bank accounts to look for undue income. I am so upset. I'm glad it's really late, and a Sunday. Once again, I am glad I have all of you to hear me out and support me. I see you do it again and again- and it humbles me to think that there are so many kind souls out there to help a person in need, however you can. You of the cooler crew, are truly special creatures.
