1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Wood - I like the balloon angle, but that would make is extremely small and hard to find. Those evil bastards!!!!

I've been to Hillcrest, didn't turn up much, but some clues fit

We searched at Swede Hollow a couple years ago, it is a nice park, but alas the wrong park. This year Conway does make sense but it is really chopped up. Any of

the clues indicate it's by the playground equipment? (Remember Harriet Island?) This is a lesson in frustration, usually by this time we're with everyone else in the

right park!!

BEEN TO HILLCREST . . . COULD BE A GOOD FIT . . . STILL NEED 9-5-4 TO FIT IN ONE OF THESE PARKS? HOW DOES IT FIT IN CONWAY?

HILLCREST?

IF YOU CAN'T FIND MY MEDALLION, SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE PAIR OF BOOTS I LOST? THEY ARE BROWN, SIZE 11, ANSWER TO THE

NAME OF STOMPERS?

I just came back from searching at Conway Park. Trying to keep all the clues in site (Translucent Dome in sunray....the water tower from 3M...) but its so foggy

hard to see the red "3M" sign on building. Everyone appears clueless!! (me included) but its fun anyways!! Conway is pretty dug up though. I'm relying on "dumb"

luck at this point.

If it's in Conway, I think it would be on the west side per clue #2 "too close to the action" and "chances are nil".

The only thing I could think about is in clue #3 when it says, Get them right and you'll shout. They have some of those talking things on the playground at Conway,

but I looked around them last week and didn't uncover anything. Obviously none of us have looked everywhere yet, or it would be found.

LOL! You all are not even close! :) No matter, I'll go and dig the thing up tommorrow after work. I'll say only these two things..

1: The clues fit PERFECTLY if you know what park to look in... and there are more parks in ST. Paul than just Como and Highland. It's lots smaller than that...

2: To prove I know, I'll get more specific.. the glowing light is a darn streetlight, not the top of any building, and no, water on high is not a tower. The clues weave

into each other, and so open up your history books and merge the old with the new!! Even the clue "quite clear" is a physical structure..not just words.. Now all I

need is clue 10, so I can sight the thing in, and begin digging......

Round and white implies what the medalion is actually in. not a place

Ouchie,

There are more meanings to iconoclast than religious. Webster also states that it is to try to keep the old and dispise the new.

Hey Ouchie - why are you assuming that it's hidden in a religious symbol? The iconoclast reference could also just mean a break with tradition - not necissarily a

reference to a religious symbol.

Personally I think the round and white and stretched quite tight refers to one of those ladies pantyhose containers (Leggs).

Hillcrest is over by the Ford plant. It is not too far from Highland. It is a few blocks from St Kate's. I went there on a whim from Newell one day. If you follow

Fairview S. it runs right into it. The library is sort of dome like, and the lights there make the night as bright as the day.

come on you old SQUAW... whats white, and tight, and goes bang at night??!!

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 12:55 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Maybe round and white and stetched quite tight is a frozen water balloon. But I was thinking, maybe being too technical, but the clue doesn't say that the covering is

round and white and stretched quite tight. It says the quarry is, and that whatever line 1 refers to is itself covered. Perhaps I'm being too literal.

Koda. I'd kill to know about the 9 5 4

Thanks, Joe. We'll probably buzz over there before heading for Conway tonight. I know everyone likes that park, but my intuition hasn't kicked in on it yet. No

vibes, if you know what I mean.

Hillcrest is on Ford Pky at the intersection of Kenneth Ave. and the South side is Bohland Ave.

Went to Irvine last night... Unless it's in the top tier of the water fountain (which I don't think it is), it's not there.

Diva Digger....Yes I played around anangraming High water and the best I came up with was Her wig hat...A he wright...Hag threw it...war eight...raw height...the

raw height sounded the best but don't know how it would fit, any other ideas? I still like triangle park although I can't go out digging till tonight.

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 1:06 PM Permalink

There is a sledding hill at Conway Chris13. Its at the far east end and slopes into the houses on Howard St.. I saw kids sledding there both days I was there.

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 1:08 PM Permalink

Grandma honeybearrr ... I haven't figured it out yet either, but it seems like the "i" is suppose to be left out (Keep out an eye). What do you think?

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 1:08 PM Permalink
Jennifer Olson

Grandma...Did you go out to the Mall area around the Capital last night. Couldnt the large red object be the 1st bank sign???

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 1:09 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

What if "Numbers keep score" is 9 and reference point A. Then "adorn the front door" is 5 and reference point B. When you orient reference points A & B, the

treasure is hidden at where 4 would be. The nine could be the scoreboard at Conway, but I can't say which front door they mean. Its just a guess anyway.

Chris13 - There IS a sledding hill at Conway. Just there yesterday with my son.

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 1:09 PM Permalink

its not really a sledding hill as you think.its too small to be even called that, plus the numbers don`t fit in

C'mon Koda, speak English, what is 9 5 4????

I'll agree that Conway is dug up, but perhaps they hid it in some bizarre way (therefore you must be an iconoclast to find it). It would make some sense to do so in a

small park, and would explain why it hasn't been found. I did see some people searching the trees last night.

Diva...you could most certainly be right...30 years of hunting and this year is by far the hardest (I now have a bald spot on the side of my head!) Jennifer, I didn't get

to go last night, I babysat while my daughter and son-in-law went and yes the first bank 1 is a very good possibility. When I get out I'm going back there and triangle

park before I hit conway (maybe I'm a iconoclast) I just have a feeling about those two places. Anyone else ?

Alison,Dagnabbit, and gang... ICONOCLAST - ICONWAYOCLAST. Iconoclast goes against tradition. A New Park like

Conway fits... I would have been out early, but I had to work.....<
