1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Allison Wonderland

You may be right Treasureman, but I'm not sure. Also, a lot of the trees are about the same size as trees neighboring them, so it could be hard to pick out. But the

3M/water tower point reminds me, I don't think you can see those from the tennis courts.

To see two frozen places of the same size...

Well, if not the hockey rinks, seems like it would have to bee two softball diamonds. *Frozen* ground.

Doc, that same thought x-ed my mind, but only someone really good could get a plane tree in the dead o'winter sans leaves/fruit. I don't think that's it..

Allison Wonderland

I feel confident its PLACES and not PLANES, so I'm not worries about the trees not being flat. Just how easy or hard it would be to compare them. I think there

may be something more abvious. At least that's my gut feeling.

Deb, no. I think the number clue was printed correctly.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 3:59 AM Permalink

Allison, what if the clues *were* written a goodly amount of time prior to The Hunt, and originally the hockey rinks were to have been of the same size - like what

we discussed at dinner?

Oh, yea. Never mind. They could have easily changed the clue at the last minute.

A name? From "two frozen places'?

North Pole, South Pole?

hey there have a question for anyone---- what is meant by the water on high???

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:11 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Flag pole, utility pole. Though I thought they were fairly well dug already.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:12 AM Permalink
green

Allison, I *think* the South Pole is larger... Or do I have it bockwards?????

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:12 AM Permalink
Howdy Doody

Thanks Allison and green. Maybe my brain is frozen and I am faltering from digging exhaustion so forgive me. Sometimes you just stand there and say to yourself,

could all these people be wrong, am I nuts. Oh well, thanks for the kick in the shorts I needed that :)

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:12 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

We generally believe it refers to a water tower where the water is stored high in the air.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:12 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

No, technically both poles are but a single point and thus the same size, and both quite frozen.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:13 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I think maybe I need to get dressed again.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:14 AM Permalink
green

Howdy, what are your thoughts on this "two frozen *places* of equal size?

For the life of me I just can't see anything but the hockey rinks, unless ittiz two softball fields!

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:14 AM Permalink
green

Al, when you think you'll bee bock??? How far are you from Conway???

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:16 AM Permalink
green

Al, ittiz almost 4:30; you may as well wait for daylite!

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:17 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I'm in Como Park, but if my pole idea is right, I think I may leave right now. It takes 20 minutes or so for me to get there.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:17 AM Permalink
balloffire

:)okay so given the whole water issue connected with all the other clues"why Conway"? From what I can tell it doesn't look like must is left to look through/for.

Maybe wrong location??!

whatcha thinkin allison?

Allison Wonderland

By morning people will have their papers, realize the mistake, and then there will be more competition.

green it is truly one for the books. When you stand at conway in the middle of all those baseball fields and hockey rinks alot of things add up. But planes of the same

size just don't. I can't believe the clue writer would not notice that the hockey and skating rinks are all different sizes. Maybe as usual I am missing something. This is

a tough year isn't it.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:20 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Two frozen places of equal size = North Pole, South Pole. Could it be buried by a pole and someone missed it or just didn't dig thoroughly enough? Are the flagpole

and untility poles the only poles out there?

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:20 AM Permalink
green

Al, you are crazy...

But... Check the TALL METAL light standards - there's at least one, by the southern most hockey rink... Ittiz been dug around, but you mite find a second and then

maybee ittiz in between them????

I think our quarry izz in a CHUNK!

And is the prey quarry spelled the same way????

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:22 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Oh yea, I forgot about those. There's also the light that shines on the addres of the rec center.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:23 AM Permalink
green

Never mind. Forget that. The "Mining" part o'3M. Sorry.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:23 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Yes they are spelled the same, but time is wasting. This could be my best shot at the prize.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:24 AM Permalink
green

Al, just Chzec all Poles! ROFLOLPMP!!!

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:24 AM Permalink
green

Get on here when you get bock!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

(And look at the Joe! I got w/o even trying!!! Hehehehehe!!!)

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:25 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Also, it could be a double meaning about a line of trees (utility poles) point towrds a valuable sign (True Value Sign). Gotta go though. Over and out.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:28 AM Permalink
green

I'd join you my friend, but I'm way too tired to bee getting behind the wheel of a car w/o some Zzzzzz's...

May the gods go with you - and BRING IT HOME FOR THE COOLER CREW!!! Coolerheads prevail, don'tcha know!

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:28 AM Permalink
green

So. Who's left?

Doc? Howdy? Man? Or did you three fly out your doors, too???

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:29 AM Permalink
Howdy Doody

Seems to me that everthing out there is frozen. Anything two things of equal planes could be anything the same size. Parking lots, baseball diamonds, ect. But doesn't

frozen ice seem to make more sense?

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:30 AM Permalink
Howdy Doody

Seems everyone is hitting the sack. Me too. Talk to ya all in the morning. I wish all of you the best of luck and no sore backs chopping at all that frozen Ice.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:34 AM Permalink
green

Does, Howdy... but... Allison actually may bee on to something with hiz N/S Poles. There *are* tons o'poles out there... And, forget about "planes" - I'm pretty

shure it should be "places," as Allison says.

Guys got brains out the wazoo... He has made some XCELLENT points re how the clue was "too easy." And his pole idea is sounding less and less far fetched.

But, too... I'm getting more and more tired! ROFLOLPMP!!!

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:35 AM Permalink

Nite, Dooder! SMHCD!!! Catch you later today?

I think I'm gonna hang out here fur awhile. The new shift should be arriving soon and folks will be coming bock.

your evil twin

well just got back from conway non the richer :(

seems alot of the remaining harcorers are focusing still on the tennis courts and the skating rinks a few straglers out and about in there own secret thoughts i checked

here and there but im tired of digging and walked around fer awhjile watching those eager beavers shovel away ....

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 4:56 AM Permalink
green

Still here, Evil...

Was sending missives off to work to say, yet again, that I'd not bee there!!!

Has anyone noticed that 9 and 5 equal 45? There are 45 posts on the park. Could it be a 4 foot tall post.

looks like the crew went to work(or sleep) hehehehehe

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 5:36 AM Permalink

number of players on tennis courts??? Maybe

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 5:37 AM Permalink
green

JT, you got an xact idea on *which* post???? Or do they lead to/line up w/something????

Ace, still here... Tho not for long... Fatigue izz starting to get the best o'me...

But am trying to a)convince myself I can operate a motor vehicle this tired, or b) not drive to Conway and await Allison Wonderland checking bock in....

well i went out for an hour or so..about 5:00 people were starting to build up then bet its in a chunk of snow somebody tossed...:)

Anybody here? I just got home.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 5:44 AM Permalink
J.T.SNOW

Green, I don't know. Posts do point to the True Value sign? Maybe the four is the number of letters in post, leading you to the posts.

Wed, 02/03/1999 - 5:44 AM Permalink
Ace

That has been known to happen

Channel 4 was out there interviewing. Went to bed after the clue came out and couldn't sleep. Went out there and stayed all night. Someone tell me it's the right park

again. This is crazy. Oh, by the way, the tool of the day is an ice pick.
