It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Oh good! Another long time hunter. This is our 29th straight year of hunting! Trying to keep an open mind and let the clues lead instead of the letting the mind lead the clues.
Merriam Park was the original site for the present state capitol building. (found in St Paul Parks: A treasure hunters guide), there's a good sledding hill, a golf course nearby,....i'm not sure about addresses in the area. But who was St. Anthony? St. Anthony Ave is near that park.
Martin Luther King Park (someone was talking about MLK earlier today) is the home of the Penumbra Theater...."scene"? and is right off of interstate 94. Certainly MLK could probably be considered an iconoclast in the "rebel" sense of the word.
I drove around Linwood Park ("nil") today and noticed that you can see a sign for hwy 5, there is a 4 way stop directly infront of the recreation center...I think its located in the 890s of St. Clair, you can probably get some airport traffic, it sits on the side of a hill so there must be some downhill fun nearby...there is a basketball court, tennis court, and a composting site down the road.
After my day of driving around and trips to the library, I'm totally confused. I was so sure it was NP or Highland...now i'm not so sure...i even drove by the govenor's mansion to see what the number was...800s....plus i was wondering if the blvd extended down that far...it doesn't. certainly summitt avenue could handle a couple hundred people scouring the parkway?....but the neighbors would probably raise Heck....hmmm just a thought. is the govenor's office a 4 year term? I also wondered about the idea that the medallion would be connected to something Jesse....I would be surprised if this whole hunt is Jesse-free.
think the big word in todays clue means cherokee. cuz like what do we hunters hold granted based on no proof? that it wont repeat parks 2 years in a row. and studying the past tells us that. so how about cherokee after looking at todays clue? i need a coment on this.
wish everyone would just go to highland and help us dig the heck out of it... that place is so huge it's gonna be pure luck for whoever finds it... they havent alluded to the location in the park... yet

Newell park is to small to have the hunt in, when they offer $10,000 It has to be a large park for a large crowd. Right????????? I like the idea of Highland Park, 5 & 51 for entry, and 9 for baseball field, and four for the golf course, they also have a frisby golfcourse. On the second clue I thought Como Park because of the slide they are building for the winter carnival. What do You think of Clue #2????????
Someone asked earlier about the clues from previous hunts. That page last year was done by Greg Sax who is the webmaster for the www.coolercrew.com web site. Those only included the last 10 years for clues and a listing of all the past hiding places since the inception of the hunt in 1952. That information is all on the web site this year plus more.
Greg is working on the site to make it as complete as possible. If you have any information, pictures or ideas, please e-mail him.
there is one way it would be at Como they would be asking for problems. if as many people show up to this slide as the last slide and have 1000000 people out looking for this -- you have got to be nutz!
more ideas to Highland.... hey Devoted Hunter... whatchya think of rankin and homer streets being derived from "numbers that keep score" they both come off of 5 and give good boundadries to dig between... im gonna scout it tomorrow... if someone already has please tell me what ya saw
Since iconoclast has a definition of something like destroying tradition, I'm going with either a park that it's never been hidden in before or Cherokee.
floyd... since there are alot of sliding hills at highland it mean to stay away from the hills... maybe they are in view maybe not but i think it definitely means they are in the park...

Does anyone know if Newell Park is always as well lit as it was tonight? Perhaps it is always well lit because of activities in the rec center, or whatever that building is called. BTW, what a cool looking building, and what a nice little park!
By contrast, I drove by Cherokee Park and it is very dark. I remember Cherokee being fairly well lit last year during the hunt, unless I am imagining things, which is entirely possible.
Eagle Eye: I have Jim-the-Freight-Train at Newell at this moment. Says the reason the park is lit is because of the Train Yard -Midway Hub Center for Burlington Northern etc. So it would always be lit for that reason. Now, Jim can't seem to see the stadium -- maybe because if it being fogging - but does anyone know you can definitely see the stadium on a good night/day?
Holy cripes dere Pembrooke. I thought I read into the clues TOO far! I like it though, don't get me wrong.
I was heard saying "Mark my words, it's in Phalen!" weeks before the first clue came out, but alas, that confident marked phrase is now a doubt as the clues seem to pointing to a different local. The only thing Phalen has going is the Golf course, possibly a sliding hill.
Here's my take on the Clues
Clue No. 1:
The time for fun has now begun
In our hunt that's open to all
But if you don't want to be outdone
Look only on public ground in St. Paul
It's in St. Paul (DUH)
A park is the spot but a golf course is not
So please don't disturb a fairway or green
Follow this advice and you won't be caught
Wasting your time at the wrong scene
This could refer to Phalen because the golf course borders the entire side of the park. Or it could be Highland as well...
Clue No. 2:
Flying downhill can be quite a thrill
And a popular outdoor attraction
But your chances of winning are nil
If you get too close to the action
Flying downhill could be sliding- which there are places to do so EVERYWHERE those kids today are pretty resourceful! Outdoor attraction could refer to the Midway Stadium that the Saints play at and getting too close to the action could mean it's a little ways away from the stadium. So... Newell park?
Clue No. 3:
Numbers keep score and adorn the front door
Now do your best to figure these out
A nine and a five and somewhere a four
Get them right and you'll shout
Numbers keep score could mean the scoreboard at the stadium ( maybe it's visible from the vantage point of the puck ). Nine could be innings in a baseball game.
Clue No. 4:
Studying the past can be quite a blast
But there's value as well in the new
If you're willing to be an iconoclast
The treasure might belong to you.
"But there's value as well in the new" ARE THEY TELLING US ALREADY? Well + New = Newell
Well, that's my take on the clues (partially, I have to keep the real bizzarre thoughts to myself or else some one may put me away HaHa, they'll come and take me away Ha Ha, THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY!)
Whoa....anywho- If anyone runs out with this and finds that darn puck before I do- you owe me a beer.
Happy hunting!
Alan
P.S.
That naked guy has the right idea- Let's keep the messages that we post pertinant to THE HUNT. You can go anywhere else to "chat" and the little personal messages take up valuable diggin' time to weed through.
GREAT, anyone getting this error?

I live less than a mile away, you can see the scoreboard, from certain parts, it isn't a big park like como highland or phalen but it isn't as small as you would think. I think it could be there, but just confused as to why they released it so early
We haven't seen Pat P here since the last clue. He would be soooo blown away if it's really there. He always says it's there and has only been right once!
Read your posts, Bart and we agree =)
floyd... the highland park golf course is SEPARATED from the park by a road.... it means to stay in the park itself...!!!
Oh good! Another long time hunter. This is our 29th straight year of hunting! Trying to keep an open mind and let the clues lead instead of the letting the mind lead the clues.
Hey everyone...
just a few factoids from some research i did:

just my 2 cents.
Where the heck is it????
Sister Sister you are the man!!! er woman... maybe women?
Me and the Medallion Mobile

I'd have to be saying HP
WW it's a possibility at that... im stickin with Highland until something tells me a resounding NO
I am wondering if KG has every been to Newell?
I DID comment, WW. #4400. Go dig it up!

Hey Space Babe--thanks for the Link
hey bart, now how does the flying downhill fit in to your theory and getting to close to the action?

nothing going on at Como or Phalen early this evening
Since iconoclast has a definition of something like destroying tradition, I'm going with either a park that it's never been hidden in before or Cherokee.

You're welcome rocketgirl. That's how we learn.
Milenko... the highlanders were iconoclasts... figure it out...

Hey Barton Fink, I really like the idea of Rankin for ranking to keep score, homer street is good too, we need some bounderies, highland park is hugh.
Eagle Eye: I have Jim-the-Freight-Train at Newell at this moment. You can see the stadium.
Yes, you can clearly see it
I realize the whole Highlander thing, but when I look at the clues and think about them like I did in the past, I'd be in Newell.
Maybe they'relisting off parks not to look in
Rosco or Hermie are you guys out there? I miss you lets talk!!!!!!

Please try again later. That sucks!
I was at NP yesterday and you CAN see the top of Midway stadium...especially the lighting.
regalman...when I was out there today, I forgot to look for the scoreboard. Can it be seen from Newell?
think it just means newell is nearby... a straight shot from highland park...
Regalman, have you been there? If so, what is your take. I can easily confirm with Jim if anyone has a question or need further information?
of course what do i know??? i eat my own donut head

Highland is the place, Celtic Klan pride.
Can't you just envision Pat P., wandering around Newell Park, muttering to himself: "I can't believe it..."???
Medallion, why the "Celtic Klan pride"?
