2004 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by THX 1138 on

Welcome to the 5th Annual Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt!

The treasure was found just before 9am on Wednesday, March 10th, by Me2. She will get a prize around $290 plus a variety of other goodies. It was found in Marydale Park on the north side in a pit under a tree near lamp post #12.

The wrap up party will be Saturday, March 13th at 8pm at Fabulous Fern's.

Well here's the clues from my very first hunt which was a virtual one. See if you can guess where it was...

1. It’s the hour to hunt again, and fulfill that noodling yen,
So act happy as you try to find your way.
Bring out a map and ready a pen,
And spot a key to where treasure lay

Sit back and relax, forget the sore backs,
Have some Haagen Dazs to forget your troubles,
Then when you think your brain is ready to tax,
You should look in seconds for doubles.

I think the clues got better over the years as this was my first attempt. Here's clue #2:

2. How many in a row? Somewhere behind the left toe;
High above your nuggets of chicken is no fluke;
The Medallion’s hiding place to which you wish to go;
Before an angel and a bishop, an enemy and a Duke.

I remember making a big mistake when I posted this one originally and saying morning shadow at first. I had to go back and correct it.

3. On the horizon alone, in it's particular zone,
It rises high for everyone around to see.
In its afternoon shadow you will be shown,
The general area in which you need to be.

This one wasn't too hard to figure out.

4. Out on the West Coast, a golden one is known to most,
And one of water hassled Tricky Dick.
Heaven and Hell each has one of which they boast,
But the one you’ll see is made of metal and brick.

I believe most people were thinking Como by this time.

5. Boreas may be gone, but his spirit goes on,
As you seek another treasure far and near.
But for brains to triumph over brawn,
You’ll have to show the spirit of a pioneer.

Kind of a tricky word game in here.

6. If you really try, and use a careful eye,
And you’re savvy as you glance around,
Fair play is what you’ll likely spy,
If you’re wise and spot the common ground.

A little education with your clue...

7. Did you know the word “treasure”, (for your trivial pleasure),
Is from the Latin “thesaurus”, or “thesauros” in Greek?
You’ll be near to your goal if you take careful measure,
And a triumvirate of quintuple-faceted polyhedrons go seek.

Looking back, I think some of these clues were almost too hard.

8. If you can divine, how this clue is benign,
You’re running this marathon more quickly,
Towards that hope look for a capital sign,
And people might not then seem so prickly.

My first attempt at throwing people to the wrong park.

9. Start with Mounds, but not sacred grounds,
Then an old advertising ditty employ,
Add some of these, or so it sounds,
And you’ll get to taste a sweet joy.

This one was kind of a stretch...

10. Sir Durthacht, not so humble, was in the mood for a rumble
And dared the evil ogre Ryyidth to come near.
But the ogre left the poor knight in such a jumble,
That all that remained after was an otter’s ear.

Sometimes I feel like a nut. Sometimes I don't. Almond Joy's got nuts. Mound's don't. Is that the jingle? Is it even the right bars? lol

This one was kind of odd, but I thought it was cute.

11. The king’s daughter Paige, was but half of his age,
And many a bitter drink would she brew.
While sipping an odd tea the king declared aloud to his sage,
“Señor, won’t you try Paige’s even tea too?”

Yes, you got that one. Almond St. bordered the park.

And actually I never did write a clue 12. Mr. Med Hunter found it before one was necessary and I was having trouble fitting the last clue to a pattern I had going.

Tilden is a tiny little park near the State Fairgrounds, about a block to the east of Snelling. It has a gate and a playground and I think that's about it.

Sounds good to me. I keep thinking I should stop by there sometime and try it out. Wait, did I say I was going to stop by last week? I can't seem to remember anything anymore these days. Hopefully I remember where I hide the treasure! If not I suppose I can just follow the clues.

Well, it's about $200 in cash, a gift certificate, a bag of M&M's, and a custom painting. Am I missing anything?
