I looked at Mexico and considered it. Ended up deciding on the cruise instead. Had a specific time frame we wanted to travel and this was the best New Years Eve deal. All-Inclusives were coming in $4500 - $5300 for the week we wanted to go

What cruise line are you going on? Sounds like a great itinery

Another good idea for reception is to get a smart antenna (basically a multi element antenna that switches to the element that matches the wavelength you're tuning to).

Essentially most antennas can't receive well over the entire radio spectrum that tv signals reside in, so most are tuned to the middle of the band to cover the most signal (with rabbit ears, essentially every time you change a channel, you have to adjust the antenna a bit for better reception, so you're tuning the antenna to the frequency of the channel you want to watch).

A smart antenna gets a message from the receiver saying "I'm on channel (insert channel here)" and then switches to the right element to properly tune that station in.

The trouble is, currently there aren't a lot of smart antennas available for sale. I assume there will be a lot of them coming out next year as consumers get frustrated with how bad their reception is...

So, word to the wise, make sure you get a DTV converter box that has a smart antenna output on it. The RCA ones at walmart have it, not sure about the zenith brand (circuit city carries those). Even though there aren't many antennas out right now, there most likely will be.

Oh and I agree, getting an outside antenna will definitely help (though it my grandmothers house, it hasn't helped a lot yet, I still have some testing to do there).

Carnival Triumph. Make sure you have a cabin with a deck. That's the only way to go. We have been on about 5 or 6 cruises. Food in dining room was fantastic. Buffet lines were so-so. Too may chow hounds there. They were eating the last plate of food while in line to fill their next plate.

Make sure you have a cabin with a deck. A great place to escape the crowds.

We met some folks on one of the Holland America ships while in St. Thomas. Might go on that line next time.

Booze is no longer cheap in St. Thomas. It's a lot cheaper in St. Maartin. Bought a liter of Jose Cuervo Gold for $10. You used to get liters of rum in St. Thomas for $4, but that has all changed. Very irritating. I just put a bottle of rum in my backpack and it went through ship security without being taken, contrary to what they say about not allowing booze from ports without checking it in.

Make sure you have a cabin with a deck. Did I say that enough?

Flooded house is finally back together, except carpet. With Christmas, there's a longer than normal wait.

GW, our cruise was given to us by a supplier to my husband as a thank you (He's got a great supplier that really does take care of its customers!) Anyways the room they gave us was an "ocean view" no balcony but we paid the extra knowing we would want a balcony. It's just so relaxing cruise ship or hotel room to be able to sit on the balcony and relax in private.

Now here comes the irritant so it can fit within this folder lol...we did some research over the weekend and found out that more than likely we would have gotten the balcony room with out upgrading wihtout paying the extra because of the # of different types of rooms available. There just aren't enough non balcony rooms for the number of people they are having. They booked the entire ship for this cruise just for their customers. Then again if we'd have taken our chances we would have ended up being one of the 180something ocean view only rooms...I guess it was worth it to not take the chance.

Last year they did it in groups, it is a nation wide company, so they took the east, and the midwest, south, southwest, etc and did each group 1 week in Mexico this year they are doing just one week for everyone. Its a great incentive to stay with them as our supplier if we continue to make our $$ quota for the year.

but I hope you all had great times and will have a great time.

Get a cabin midship and eat lots of food. My wife usually gets seasick, but never did this time. Balcony also helps. Interior cabins are really bad if you get seasick. We even hit some rough seas near hurricane Paloma.

I should! my house there would be about 20k. for the cost of what I paid for my house here - I could live in a mansion.

Except I'd miss drinking water. Oh, and you can't get decent sushi.

What are we supposed to say? Seriously.

"What did you do with your hair?" - can't say that

"Why did you change your look?" - can't say that

"How much did THAT cost me?" - can't say that

"Is THAT why you missed dinner?" - can't (DUCK!) say that

"Nice Boobs." - usually safe to say, but...
