I was certain Clues 7 and 8 were references to Phalen. However, I can't get the explanation of clue 6 of the 2019 Hunt out of my head after reading today's clue. Steer, wade, and fade = stockyards, Cattlemen's Hotel, and a barber shop.

Defend your liberties and rights - Public Works commissioner Oscar Keller was indicted by a Ramsey County grand jury in 1917 for a "disloyal" speech he gave in support of streetcar workers who were on strike. May not mean the hiding spot is in Keller, but perhaps in Phalen near Keller?

Ha, well being in the right park is what matters, however you got there. You might have won my park pool if I had had time to run it this year!

Also, someone else had the 'chin+knees' idea.
What I will take credit for is being the first to choose Phalen as the park, if that is where the medallion is found. Check my post #936 on Jan. 4. Maybe the CW saw that and decided to hide the puck there.

Still, in the Medallion Hunt, you don't have to be original to be right. There are lots of wrong ideas out there that one can buy into. It took me quite a while to get on board with Phalen.

I cannot take credit for that. Someone else posted about the 1973 hunt with the treasure found in Phalen by the Mankato students, and you mentioned the tie-in to the Ukraine clue with the Zielinski name. I just embellished a bit on that.

Last night I was thinking cypress hill. Certainly a diamond of ruffrecords. Cypress, Earl, Frank roads. But with fresh eyes and less beer I realized something this morning.
The last line is important.  Dig a month of snow. Think January is Janus. Literally the god of arched doorways. Can also be beginning and end or even transitions. Like from war to peace.  The clue writer is full of contranyms. Perhaps Janus is their muse. Purposely using clues that fit como and phalen. Now where is the door or arched gate? Or is it gateway trail?

Alfabob thankyou for the compliment but I am not usually correct. Last year I was early in Silverwood, but I look at many internet sights for different ideas from people. I think visual so I need different input. This year I dug 3 times in Como. It also happens to be closest to my home. I wanted to check out Central and Phalen but never got the chance to dig because of the smash and grab. I am upset about waiting a week to get it fixed. This was more scary than losing my keys when you let me and my collie warm up in your car. I no longer feel safe in medallion hunting. But I am nuts and will probably continue next year.

Clarence "Cap" Wigington would be 140 this year.... he died 56 years ago.... I can only think of a few prominent buildings that are still standing.....Some schools Including the original Como Elementry.... The Highland Water Tower and the Pavillion at Harriet that has his name and the Holmen Field admin building;

If we're thinking not in Phalen. Has anyone considered that the reference to Ukraine is about the Russian's military use of Z. As in Z is for Zelda, a muse but who also wrote Save me the Waltz.

'A hero by another name'... could be another way of spelling Zelenksy, President of Ukraine, and refer to Zielinski, one of the Mankato students who found the treasure in Phalen Park in 1973. Here's an example where you were exactly right Alphabob. And didn't you also say "Chin" could be a reference to the Chinese Friendship Garden? Although I just saw someone else point out that it's actually chin + knees for Chinese, but you got the right idea.

I think this clue means that CW has been giving clues that are red herrings to different parks to keep the hunt going longer, but now they will not steer us wrong - rhis clue tells us which park it's in. I miss the old days when everyone was in the same park early on - it was far more engaging.  When everyone was in the same spot, I felt much more compelled to DIG, rather than look up things online and study maps in my living room. One of the years it was in Swede Hollow - many people were there by clue 3 and stayed there, yet it was not found until 10 or 11. My husband's work had out of town visitors and they even went to Swede and dug the night it was found. It was like a packed nightclub -they had never seen anything like it and we all had a blast!

That's not true Bob, I've seen you be right before, and even quite insightful on a few occasions.

I've never been right about the clues or the park before, so something is nagging me about Phalen. Secretrose usually guesses the right park before many others who post on here,  so maybe the medallion is in Como.

I think that hill is the spot. Either that or in line with Hoyt which can mean "up on a hill".

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
