1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Gotta believe its at Highland. Why would they spell the park out in only the fourth clue when there are 12 total - the carnival hasn't even begun yet and Newell is a small park - especially compared to Highland et. al. Waiting for tomorrow's clue.

I don't make the connection. I'm not quite as informed about this as you are. Can you explain? I have someone at Newell checking out everyone's previous theories?

NP. It's There - won't get into the details - been there, done that. For those in the know - you can stand at a certain point and see the 9-5-4 thing, it's pretty clever, I must admit - but it's real tough to see at night. Everything else is there - iconolast, pierce butler - ya know who he was, I didn't till this PM - I was out there yesterday and today. Clues all fit. I'll be out there tonight. Have fun at HP, Phalen or wherever else. If I see y'all at NP - great - there's alot of diggin to do.

Well, it's a Jim but not the better half. He's at work. It's Jim-the-Freight-Train. He work's with me and is totally addicted to this as much as we are. Poor sap!!! But we got tired of everyone else telling us about the Parks, and finally went looking for ourselves. The only theory that works for us is the tower (KS95 or call letter 94.5 "a 9 and a 5 and somewhere a 4" would work for this. The stadium and 4 pilars at the entrance. Anymore suggestions that you can think of beside leaving and going to Highland. Jim said there are 4 basketball hoop/poles at the park. Nothing more.

Rob - Highland is one of the oldest parks in St. Paul. Last time it was there was 1994.

I agree w/you Hunting - people who say Newell is too small have never been to the park, they're just looking at a map. It's a BIGGER than y'all think.

I would have to agree with NP it has only been there once and that was in what something like 84. That and it does fit all of the clues.

The last time it was at Newell, 75% of the diggers left the fairgrounds to dig in this smaller park, that year it was there.

Medallionhound, I believe the medallion is at Highland but have to make sure we check out all the other possibilies before digging on Saturday. Unless someone sells me on this park, I'll be seeing you there as well. The better half and I are taking vacation next week. Don't want to miss out on this chance.

Well at first I was sold on Phalen ... then Highland ..... now I think it's Newell AND I've vowed to stick to it until something MORE significant comes up .... It's small sure but SO WHAT ??? The Medallion ain't that big!!@!

Rob, we talking about Newell. The 9, 5, and 4 we believe might have a reference to the radio station KS95 whose tower you can see from Newell and the actually call letters being 94.5. You may was to check the previous message to get caught up. My source is on his way to Highland. Will let you know when he gets there.

9 5 4 at NP?

Wed, 01/27/1999 - 9:10 PM Permalink

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT AT NEWELL THERE IS A HIDDEN AREA THAT IT TAKES A LOT TO GET THERE. I WAS THERE DIGGING LAST NIGHT. NOT TO MANY THERE MAYBE ABOUT 15-20 PEOPLE. IN THE AREA YOU CAN SEE THE MIDWAY STADIUM AND YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBERS!!! I HAVE A FEELING THE CLUES WILL BE TALKING MAYBE ABOUT TRAINS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT

Mr. Medallion, NOT COMO, Newell can't even park twenty cars, But you can see the state fair fire works from newell. Hamline univ. is close by for studing the past! 9 & 5 could be dock # at Daytons warehouse across the tracks from newell park. Maybe!~

OK, at some point in order to get anywhere, we have to stop wasting our time explaining what the 9-5-4 has to do with Newell Park

has anyone noticed that 51 and 5 basically triangulate the borders of highland park??? i'd say that may count as adorning the front door....

and the 4+shout = "fore" = there IS a golf course at the park we are searching for....

and 9+numbers keep core=innings in a baseball game, of which there are fields at highland...

just noticed a street called Rankin leading to higland park... rankin=ranking="numbers keep score"????

not to mention Homer St... another baseball reference.. (and an indirect reference to my picture!!!)
