Next year I'll be living in the park. When hunt time comes I'm going to make sure I have a nice stock of food, drinks and cold weather sleeping gear all ready to get dirty.

Who who wish to join me are welcome. We can grill some steaks to celebrate clue seven or something.

This hunt meant more to me than any other I've participated in on many levels.
About the park: Having that "commemorative" fire to honor the passing of my Dad at my favorite fire pit in the city gave all 'heads, and all non- 'heads a place to meet up, warm up, and catch up. I lived there nearly 'round the clock for 4 days, and cannot tell you how much laughter, panic & exaustion was shared. A fire is a magical thing- folks kept bringing wood, and I kept making coffee. Word spread about this "cooler crew" and I was asked alot how "one becomes a member"
I thought about using my biting wit and sarcasm to answer, but spiritually felt it a bad idea.
My answer was the theory that almost all hunters are cooler heads, they just haven't "come out" yet.
Don't be suprised if the RHB brings many former timid souls back down to Crosby Park on Sunday. The Dynamo of The Crew is about to roar!

do you take accept paypal??

Actually I do. You can use AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com

I went out there today to see where the treasure was. I also figured out where the life raft was supposed to go (and put it back there). It wasn't any of the trees that people told me it was the night of clue 10. Too bad I didn't go back the next day in the daylight but I had too much to do.

As for the Homer clue, I know I figured it out amongst the people standing by the windows in the lobby. Chris told Jake. I don't remember if Chris was there when we were talking about it or if he figured it out on his own. I'm thinking the latter because he told me about it as if I didn't know. I also saw some people on the message boards figure it out about as quickly as those at the paper did.

all of a sudden the page is 2 screens wide so I have to keep scrolling side to side. is anyone else having this problem? anyone know how to fix it?

I think it was this tree

That was the tree that was definitely closer to where the life raft was. KC's tree was too far down the trail I think, where the trail had diverged from the lake already.

Problems with my page

Thats because of a long link or maybe the picture I posted. Just scroll past it then click the number of the post after it and it should go away and be normal again.

(Nice joe to claim on the edit)

That's the first tree I thought it was... second one made more sense on the map the paper had listed with the clues, at least in relation to where the trails in the park are.

KC I think that one you had was right where the paths meet and the giant one was a little before and toward the pike island from the path. (away from the lake)

As for the clues, was it really that fun scratching your ass in Crosby for all of those nights? Maybe I get more of a charge out of figuring out the park than the rest of people. I will admit that I've complained about the clues in the past, but mostly such clues as the French immersion school clue, one eluding to a school that was blocks away and out of sight. I'd rather have a challenge in two parts -- finding the park for one, and finding the spot for two. There's nothing that seems to make anyone prouder than saying "I was in the right park after clue 4." Well, we can all say we were in the right park after clue 2 this time, and that's not that fun when everyone can say it.

It's not like I'm giving up on the hunt. I will be giving up on getting the paper at 11 or so. I'll get it online with the rest of the "die-hards" and head to the park from home. I guess that's what the Pioneer Press wants ultimately, with the giveaway nights that get lamer and more dangerous every year. There are some traditions worth keeping, in my opinion, and one of them is grabbing the clue at the paper. With communications so fast and easy there's going to have to be some other way to reward the group of people who go down and freeze their butts off waiting for the paper (a special insert into their papers worth, say, 100 extra bucks each if they find the clue or something).

It's just my $.02. I'm not expecting anyone else to feel the same way, though I suspect some do.

Years ago they didn't have a nice warm lobby to stand in if you got there early enough and wait for the clue.  No stack of papers on a table. No planned events. You drove around to the side of the old building and waited for someone from the press room to come out a little door with a handful of papers that he would hand you through your car window in exchange for your nickel or dime or whatever the paper cost then.

KC--I'm 90% sure the map in the paper is wrong!!!

MMM--the tree you are talking about makes more sense...

doesn't really matter...we looked in both of them....

but would be nice to know 4 sure....I'd like to know if the paper screwed up their own map of it...

Its just one of those things you don't believe.....

Kinda like one time I was diggin' I swear I saw a blue flash in the snow......so I spent about 15mins going over the same little 1 foot by 1 foot area that I thought I saw it...

Damnit ... I missed NECK on the radio today???  Did he say anything interesting or funny?  Did JS cave in and say he hid the puck?

Are Medallionators welcome at the RHB since we like ALL OF YOU didn't find the puck either?

to know if the paper screwed up their own map of it...

wouldn't surprise me in the least. Every time I know the facts before they print them, they have gotten something wrong,

Yes, you are ALL welcome to attend.

That's what I understand. And, to be quite honest, I'd prefer it if there weren't giveaway nights only because it's a little too much for the lobby. At the very least, I wish they'd keep us all outside even on those nights. They could hand out drawing forms at, say, 1030pm and have the drawing well before the paper came out. I don't know -- anyone who was there on the 2nd giveaway night can probably vouch for the fact that getting a paper and getting out of the building was dangerous. Someone very easily could have been trampled. A trip to Vegas isn't worth that (though we could have our cake and eat it, too).

zephy...I had a little chat today with your wife.....

I hate to put the pressure on you.....

but if I had to make a vegas bet for next year.....I like your odds better then anybody...even jake's...ha.....

she told me how you had the exact spot and how you told her to go out there and pick it up......she also told me that you basically don't sleep the entire hunt and just in and out of the house all hours....(sounds like the rest of us I know)....

but....I gotta hunch....I mean ..geez......the guy has too much pull now....with being knighted and all....

ok, I asked Haywood and Ryan and the mom (coleen?) and they gave exact location -it is different than what the newspaper map is.

Good Evening!

Santa Dave - I know you have groupies.  :-)

I'll never forget that day at the Great Minnesota Get Together that  little kid came up to you wanting to talk to Santa.  Then there was the time at Burger King where two other kids wanted to talk to Santa...and you were super with them too...and that was without the Santa suit.

I do believe in Santa...yup I do.

Stallion - I've known your real name for years.  But always think of you as Stallion.  It's how we first got to know you.

I sure hope more folks hang around here during the year instead of wandering off.  It happens every year though.  Folks move on from the hunt and only start meeting up again when winter is in the air.

What is odd for me this year is though I am a tad bit disappointed the hunt is over, it's not nearly as depressing as in year's past.  I believe it's because this was a good hunt with decent clues and everyone had a good chance of finding it.  I only wish I hadn't been dealing with auditors at work again this year.  I would have been out in the park more.

But Allison's Mock Hunt is coming up and that's always fun.

Oh!  And someone mentioned getting together once every couple months.   Some of us used to do that - we called it Shooting the Breeze - Live! and often gathered to play cards, celebrate birthdays, just excuses to get together and get to know each other better.  There were some really fun times.

Eric- I know you were there, I saw you by the official fire.
Please try to keep the peace at the RHB. Belligerence has no place around all the families that will be there.
I understand your penchant for defending yourself, I have a son your age. But the Hunt and it's resulting parties are not about you, or any one sole individual, and on Sunday all this will have passed.

He's harmless. I just ignore him when he's around.

He was bugging Scribe through the whole hunt to get into the invite thread.

She kept telling him she had nothing to do with it, and he needed to talk to someone else.

He sure doesn't know Scribe if he thinks she'd cave. :-)

K T - Seriously, introduce yourself to me on Sunday.  I really think you have the wrong guy!  I never was up at the fire but for more than about 2 minutes walking past it on Sunday afternoon with MapGuy and Jake.  I was digging the entire week near the site it was found and between the lakes.  Secondly, the Medallionators, myself included NEVER do anything to intimidate, torment or disrupt children and/or families.  Our group has in the past, and I think we calmed it down a considerable amount this year, done some rather unique and comical, not to all we understand, things that give the hunt a couple more memories.  Third, why your son's age and mine have anything to do with anything, I am oblivious too.  I would guess that I have doctors that work for me that are your age ... does it have any relevance, likely not anymore than your son being my age.  Fourth, did I imply these parties had anything to do with me?  I missed it if I did.  I simply asked if we, the Medallionators, were welcome to join the gathering or if it was a 'cooler crew' thing only.  I might offer you a bit of advise to look outside the glass and ask oneself if you can see things differently when they are not distorted.  Again, like I said introduce yourself to me, and if your unable to find me ask around for Medallionator Eric and I am certain someone in the group will gladly point me out to you.  I am confident that many people in your group would agree I am a friendly person not out to cause ruckus.
