somthing irking you? pissing you off? rant about it here.

Can you qualify for USAA? That's what I have. It's great, and very inexpensive. You don't actually *have* to be military... just some sort of relative.
I dont think they can hold a nofault claim against you. I'd question that. I totaled 2 cars with nofault and never had an increase because of it with Illionois Farmers. Dennis Hansen is my agent. Always been great to me! He remebers my voice even if I havn't talked to him in years! http://www.farmersagent.com/dhansen
Good luck! I get it because my Exhusband is military (and was a member) They are pretty easy going if you can justify something (anything) and awesome. Also you get free towing. If you qualify for their home owners insurance (or renters insurance) you get a fat discount too. LOVE them!
yeah but it also means I won't get the girls out with me during my vacation and I honestly had enough of the subzero temps at Mounds... :frown: Cold is ok but subzero is not....
Why is it.. every year, during the week and a half of the hunt.. everything else in life starts acting up?
I can't spend any time on deciphering clues.. I just don't have the mental capacity for it, and frankly.. the stuff I have to deal with is far more important and affects my day to day life.
Sad though. I have less and less time for something I enjoy, now.. no time. Hunting and geocaching is just a nostalgic feeling for me anymore, good memories of a simpler time.
Sorry KC. Take a deep breath and remember if you don't make setting aside some time for yourself a priority, then you are going to become tired and ineffective in the other things you need to do.
Emptying out my bank account tomorrow to give my parents a loan for a used car.. theirs was stolen last week.. deadbeat siblings sucked just about every dime out of them, they can't even get a loan because of cosigning for a car my brother defaulted on.
Won't their auto insurance pay? I had a car stolen years ago and insurance paid for the value of the car plus the value of the things that were in the car. Maybe you can recoup some of your money.
Couldn't you co-sign a loan for your parents, rather than empty your bank account?
I have a friend who has had many problems with her husband's family all being irrespondsible with money and would come to them because the family thought they were rich (they weren't, they just worked their asses off and saved for a rainy day). They wanted to help- after all it's family but they didn't want to be taken advantage of and ripped off. So they started the rule that they would loan someone the money with a written payment plan- if the person did not pay them back when they stated they would, then no more money. Pretty much every member has broken this rule, so they are off the hook for being the family's open bank. And the best part is the relatives have no one to blame but themselves because they knew the conditions before accepting the money.
My experience is money does not solve money problems because it doesn't address the behavior that led them to the problem in the first place. Just my 2 cents.
I go to the YMCA. $62 a month and tons of classes. I go to Boot camp, Body Pump 1x per week, core conditioning 2x per week, and have gone to group cycle a couple of times. All classes (except 1 or 2) are included in the monthly fee. There are tons of other classes you can go to. Fitness room is great, but you are on your own. If you go to the classes, the instructors are always willing to help you out with correct form, etc.
The Y follows the BodyPump program pretty closely.
Yes! What do you do? My class is$ 299.00 /mo but I got a month for$ 25 on group. We do dynamic stretching then run a mile as fast as we can (goes along with the vdot ) then quick reps of e everything from triceps to lunges to dump squats and donkey kicks. Minimum weights are 8lbs... which coming off a 9month gym break after injury is way tough.
Very curious what other classes do! Also does yours do nutritional counseling etc?
The session I go to changes every day, but has some basic similarities. It's is all indoors. Warm-up laps in gym, 20 minutes of heavy cardio to get you to your peak zone, super-sets of exercises with 2 minute cardio in between to keep you at your peak HR. Then some basic exercise using BOSU's, weights, steps, and such. Here are some of here more torturous routines:
Skip rope 100x, 10 push-ups, 10x up stairs, 10x crab arm lift.
Skip rope 90x, 9 push-ups, 9x up stairs, 9x crab arm lift.
Skip rope 80x, 8 push-ups, 8x up stairs, 8x crab arm lift.
Continue to zero. Sometimes we are carrying 10-20# on the stair climb.
Another is to pair up and have the other person hold you back with doubled exercise bands while running forward and backward across the gym. 2x each direction......then switch.
Or add a frog-hop 4x across the gym while holding a 12# medicine ball overhead. That one's brutal.
She does a lot of lunges, forward, backward, and while moving across the gym. Sometimes while carrying weights.
There's more. Like I said, it's different every day, but the main idea is to get the heart pumping hard and do the strength exercises while at a high HR.
The early AM session only has 3-5 regulars, so we can move around a lot more. The 9:30 session has about 20, so it's all in a studio and a lot less intense. There seem to be some 'weekend warrior' types in the later session, as it only meets once a week.
No nutritional counseling, but I already have that from my Dr.'s nutritionist.
Get a good heart rate monitor and use it. I found that on the 3rd week I was getting my HR up too high. I bought a Sportline Duo 1010 at Best Buy for $70. You can use just the chest band and the treadmills they have sense it and display your HR.
Mine starts in an hour. I went yesterday and am ready to go again. My recovery time is really short now.
I have a new heart rate monitor I got for Xmas. But I think I'm buying a body media this week too to wear. Yours sounds a lot more fun. Essentially everything I get in this class, is what you get in any of the typical body pump/fit classes that most of the gyms have here (from $20-$100 mo membership) so I don't really get why these people exist. Although everyone who didn't buy the groupon are women who walk out their front doors to the park across the street and get exercised by a 25yr old muffin who looks like Patrick Demsey.
This one offers Nutritional Counseling at an additional fee. (I think it's like an extra $100/mo) Which I won't do bc I've taken all the college courses to be an RD.. just haven't taken my state boards.
It's what's popular these days. Just like Pilates and Yoga super popular a while back, but dropping off a bit. The Y includes those classes with the membership.
Hmm.. lots of money tossed around losing weight and keeping in shape...
I need a poor man's approach myself...
Luckily I have the net, access to a ton of information, and some basic exercize equipment.
I went with my roommate to an LA Fitness a couple times on a guest pass.. the people there just kept bugging me to join and quoting that the rates are going to go up, yadda yadda.. no thanks.. think I'd rather just buy a treadmill or elliptical for home use. besides.. I could get a computer stand for a treadmill.. walk and surf the net at the same time.. hmmm....
Luckily I have the net, access to a ton ofinformation, and some basic exercize equipment.
I used to think the same way. Unfortunately, home exercise is short lived. Too many distractions like cable TV, internet and such. It's fun to get out and meet some new people. Plus, there's the group motivation factor.
Since I don't have the expense of cable TV, it's money well spent. There's my anti Cable soapbox.
Places like LA Fitness give you the hard sell to get the new member fee. That's how they exist. You usually can find promos at the Y where they don't charge the new member fee. Their monthly rates are a little higher, but they always have tons of employees and lots of free classes. Most have a pool, and those are costly to operate.
If you want a treadmill, just check out the rummage sales and craigslist. There are plenty for sale......cheap and some never used. I have even seen that stuff for free.
Heh, no doubt. My mom has a treadmill she doesn't use, actually I bought it for her for a gift once after she had some heart trouble. Maybe if I start dropping by there ohh.. 3 or 4 times a week to use it, maybe she'll get the hint too...
Seriously though, if I can combine it with something I do currently, it'd be pretty easy for me to keep up with, even if I don't have a group to motivate me.
Thanks for all the tips though, I'll keep them in mind if I do need to do something else.
The last time I exercised regularly was at the Y many years ago....was nice cause I signed my kids up for swimming lessons, and used the time they were in the pool to use the machines.
BUT, I have/had a higher than normal resting pulse anyway, and after any exertion at all my heart was racing....consequently, I would quit early and go watch the kids swim. I was probably 100 pounds overweight at the time too, maybe it wouldn't be so bad now.
After their lessons were over, I quit the membership and haven't gone back.
by too high.. it means you are above your fitness zone. For instance, when I am sick, and my asthma is acting up, a one minute jog can knock me up to 214 or so. It feels like I got a shot of adreneline, and I feel like crap for a long time after if I stay up there for a while.
The theory is, if you maintain for too long above you can damage your heart, although newer theories think this isn't the case, unless you have other health issues.
One thing for sure, there are many different schools of thought on how to calculate your target heart rate. Google it and you'll get pages of different methods.
A lot of places post the chart from the American Heart Association.
Well between the two links, looks like my "high" target rate is between 145-180. I know that 210+ can't be good, at least not extended periods, or often. Just something I'll have to watch.
I've been SO sedentary the past few years, probably good just to start out walking once the temperature outside is bearable and work into more strenuous stuff.
http://www.farmersagent.com/dhansen
Looks like *someone* you're related to must have been military AND a USAA member at some point.
Watch...Beaver will win this year...
Thanks Me2 and CM for letting me know it still wasn't picked lol!
I can't spend any time on deciphering clues.. I just don't have the mental capacity for it, and frankly.. the stuff I have to deal with is far more important and affects my day to day life.

Hugs.
And whats more important than the things you enjoy?
my 2 cents.

Sure could use that 10 grand about now.
so no one has found their car yet?
what is it?
now that the hunt is over we can start searching for their car!
Any idea if they crossed the county line? If they went south I gotcha covered, but if they hit Hennepin, Washington, or Anoka you're on your own...
I'm eating cheap for a while...
I guess on a plus note, I'll get to see her head spin round ala exorcist this week. That's always fun.
I have a friend who has had many problems with her husband's family all being irrespondsible with money and would come to them because the family thought they were rich (they weren't, they just worked their asses off and saved for a rainy day). I'm on week 4 right now and am bumping it up to 4x a week. M-W-F instructor is brutal. Tues instructor gears it down significantly.
Want to hear about the torture we get put through?
how much does it cost?
