2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

hem and haw are Mice from a book Who Moved My Cheese.

Hazlenut Park in Arden Hills?

Has a hockey rink

Trinity Lutheran Church is on site

The tip of the park points to the border of Arden Hills and New Brighten

new Brighten = Sun?

Just stuff I'm pulling off a google map search. I know nothing else about this place.

More on Charles Perry Park-

In response to annexation requests by the City of New Brighton, in 1951, three residential areas and the ammunition site incorporated and became the city of Arden Hills. ( Hmm, the 3 could be our clue from the triple score?)

From I-35W, proceed east on County Road D, then north (left) on Cleveland Avenue, then east (right) onto County Road E, then north (left) onto New Brighton Road. The entrance to the park is located on your right. East, Cty Rd 3- Sun rises to east?

In case you don't believe me about the stage area.

For my money we're in the Maplewood side of Battle Creek.

I'm less sure about which side of Upper Afton but I'm heavily leaning towards north of it with the pavilion, babbling brook, water park, etc...

Think outside the box and Arden Hills could reference looking outside Mpls for the Vikings stadium. The red and blue makes purple makes sense.

It's at Battle Creek with a KISS.

Keep

It

Simple

Stupid

And no, I'm not calling any of you stupid, just don't overanalyze the damn clues.

Yep, Battle Creek still sounds good, until we get the "Hey stupid, it's in Como" clue anyway. Either way, wander out, find the biggest patch of woods you can, walk in about a quarter mile, and start checking every large tree you can find.

That's probably what I'll be doing Saturday, assuming the hunt is still on.

To "make book"..

Andersen developed a passion for books as a child, collecting them all his life. As a young traveling salesman he saved his loose change and then spent it on books. His hunt for books brought him into contact with dealers, other collectors, printers and librarians. He was well-acquainted with book and auction catalogs; paging through the catalogs became a welcome break in a busy day. Elmer bought books with a purpose, to build a library. He intended to read his books, know them well, catalog them, and care for them. American and English history and literature, along with inspirational poetry, were of particular interest to Elmer, but as his interests expanded so did his reading and his library. When he came to Minnesota he became interested in the state's history. When he learned more about fine printing and printers his eyes turned towards William Morris and the Kelmscott Press. And when he discovered something new, like the Whittington Press, Elmer made sure that the University owned the entire printer's archive.

Eleanor was wonderfully supportive of her husband's bibliomania. Together, their book buying was intimately connected with book giving and support for libraries and reading. Public libraries around the state as well as other book concerns benefitted from their support and interest. They were major benefactors of the University of Minnesota and its Libraries. Much of the collection at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Library, which bears the Andersen name, is a direct result of their generosity. The gift of the Governor’s personal library of 12,500 rare volumes in March 1999 was described in the Minneapolis Star Tribune as “a gift of the heart.”[17] Elmer didn't stop collecting, however, and the Eleanor J. and Elmer L. Andersen Collection now numbers about 16,000 volumes.[18]

Andersen believed there was an additional mission to the three central missions—teaching, research, and community service—of the University: an archival one. It is especially significant that the building housing the archives and special collections of the University Libraries is named for the man who expressed his deep personal belief in the University's "fourth mission." On May 14, 1999, the University's Board of Regents unanimously voted to name the newest library in honor of Andersen. The Elmer L. Andersen Library opened to the public in April 2000.

CLUE NO. 1

The time has come around again

For using all your cunning and ken

To unravel Boreas' befuddling clues

Circulated in the PiPress news.

Within our realm explore and search.

No private properties besmirch.

The treasure rests in a public park.

On a course for golf, please leave no mark.

- Ramsey County

- Not on golf course

- Unravel = knit pouch used in 95 at BC

CLUE NO. 2

It's time to get this off our chest:

Mix treasured lore into your quest.

Triple score provides a clue;

So do the colors red and blue.

- Refers to Maplewood controversy, putting it in Maplewood again gets it off their chest

- Perhaps 3M

CLUE NO. 3

Crack the nut and find the treasure.

There's a place to cook and a place for leisure.

A road there is that's interfacial.

Bag the treasure if you are able.

- crack the nut, '06 found in nut goodie wrapper and in block of ice (BC)

- interfacial road = McKnight

- bag the treasure, '11 found in newspaper bag (BC)

CLUE NO. 4

"Woof" says the dog. "Babble" says the brook,

And here is wisdom on which to make book:

When in Rome you should do

Exactly as a Roman should do

- Dog park

- Babbling brook

- Battle

CLUE NO. 5

If it's treasure you're trackin'

Stop chattin'. Get crackin'.

As the sun will lighten up your day,

This clue will brighten up your way.

- Sunray

- East Road = McKnight

- East side of park = Maplewood

CLUE NO. 6

Let us stop the haw and hem

And get you looking for the gem.

Incorporate thinking outside the box.

Sort it out as you like it - opportunity knocks.

- Refers to back and forth between St. Paul or Maplewood sides

- Maplewood is an incorporated city, outside the box = outside St. Paul

- "All the world's a stage" - stage in BC pavilion

I'm not really that zeroed in, just teasing David.

I am strongly leaning Maplewood BC but will remain open minded as tonight and tomorrow night's clues are released.

It seems like they wrote these clues to perfectly fit two different parks. Its almost a toss up between them. At this point though the balance has tipped in favor of Tony Schmidt Park. I even have a bet with Jake over it now.

Tony Schmidt Regional Park is located in northwestern Ramsey County in the City of Arden Hills. The park is generally bounded by Lake Johanna and County Road E on the south, Snelling Avenue on the east, County Road F on the North, and I-35W and New Brighton Road on the west. The park currently encompasses 217.28 acres.

But then they added another 4 acres.

I know I'm a bit out on a limb, but I believe it's NOT in BC. About 1am last night I had a mental anvil fall on my head and was subsequently hit with "the spot"! So much so, that I woke my sleepy wife in a blur. She staggered her way to the computer and then spent an hour with me pouring over the clues.

Trying to keep my hopes in check, I say 83% sure (17% is my being an idiot). My wife on the other hand says 95%, and she's usually the cautious one.

The bug bite is so strong, that she and I are both currently enroute to hopefully find the puck (Don't tell my boss)! We'll keep ya posted. :goofy:

Remember the repeat of the words indicating a repeat of location.

Either way, remember that the clues could just be saying park, park, park and not location in park.

Does Arden Hills have train tracks?

The Ramsey County Arden Hills Library.

This is part of the City of Arden Hills Perry Park.
