a little here and there. i plan on going to the rehash bash-- so maybe that will help. it was so nice meeting you. i'd been coming here for at least 3 years, and always really respect your insights into the hunt! you rock my socks!
The Rehash Bash can be good for meeting people but it seems to go so quickly that it all becomes a blur and it's hard to really get to know people. Maybe we should plan a meeting in the park at a specific time so everyone can meet?
Just read OT's posts about the grove that once did hide us. There's a line in one of the earlier clues that has bothered me, and it's related to your train of thought. The line is "It was there before."(we moved in) I thought it was related to what the puck was hidden in, but now we know that it's not hidden in anything, so maybe it relates to the park. Or maybe it means nothing. After all, the rest of the clues point to Crosby. By the way, about the only things in Crosby to navigate by that I've noticed are the informational signs. So far, the clue writer has mentioned a few things on these signs - eagle, dove (so I'm told), yarrow, and possibly a reference to Pig's Eye on the sign for the Mississippi. I wonder if these can help narrow down the search?
There are a lot of people I see post every year that I want to get to meet also. I see some at the RHB, but it's hard to meet everyone there, especially if it's cold and people don't stay long.
first time posting, I'm in the stillwater area lake elmo. hi everyone i was at crosby today big park. is any one going to post the next glue tonight it would be great thanks all and have a great hunt.
Since the time before the clue comes out is sort of a dead zone anyway, maybe we should plan a gathering at the picnic shelter like tomorrow at 10pm until the clue comes out?
Unfortunately today would have been the day for a daytime meeting.
Aside from the Rehash, I will be having my Mock Hunt coming up. The rate this hunt is going, I'm thinking March 6th may be the start date. We usually have a pre hunt gathering for that where I give out the first clue at 6pm. That's also a good chance to get to know some people and I think this year's Mock Hunt will be the best one I've done yet. I have a very unique idea for it.
I don't believe that. Cluemaster had a picture he took the night before with a strange glow coming from the snow about where it was found. I believe if he had checked that photo, he would have had the medallion.Â
There's a certain contingent of the Cooler Crew that has been around for years and we all know each other and do all this stuff together. But I know there are so many more other interesting people out there doing the hunt too and I wish we could meet more of them and see them more than just once a year.
I'm sorry all...I can't help but think it is NOT at Crosby, although some clues fit. It mentions NOT very WHITE CHRISTMAS- Sorry BING!!!! Also it mentions STILLS YOUNG, NASH...but NOT Crosby. I'm sorry, but I truly think it is not there....the clue writer is leaving something out, shouldn't we??????????
I think it is in the South West portion of the park as Thomas Crosby staked out his claim in the SW 160 acres of the park.Zebulon Pike who negotiated a deal with the native Indians obtaining the land that Fort Snelling now sits on, including Pike Island, also led an expedition to the SW United States to gain information on the Spanish occupiers. Pike fought in the War of 1812 against the British and was killed in 1813. His fame as a minor hero was fleeting. Taverns and steamboats carried his name. The clue in reference to the this land is my land kicked off the island could relate to the natives that negotiated away their claim to land further west. At the time these were the Dakota or Sioux if the clue refers to Pierre Parrant could the pierre mean "pier" as in fishing pier?
Allison- everyone has been so welcoming. :) I'll for sure be at the rehash... as for tomorrow.. i'm not sure if i'll make it out.. not to mention make it up till 10pm. :) tomorrow is gonna be a long day. but if i do head out.. i'll make sure i stop by the firepit too! i hate digging alone at night. i'll probably be more up for a night dig and pp run on tuesday night!
ah well. i think it's time to hit the hay for me.. get ready for bed. i'll see the new clue in the morning!
As for the not at Crosby thing, there is an odd pattern developing there, but I keep thinking back to two things. One is that last year in the clue with the "It's at Phalen Park" anagram, they said to beware of flase advice which made people then think it wasn't at Phalen, and it was. Secondly, the last couple of years, it seems you can't get much out of the grammatical context. When they say "look for an object as green as the Emeral Isle" taken as a complete sentence, that would have to be a Shamrock. But instead the answer was it was in a green object and there was an island nearby. So I think we're meant to take the obvious from these clues and not start to second guess things and believe they mean to point out what park it's not at.
I think they've been avoiding mentioning the marina because if they do, it will tempt some people to go to the marina. One clue already said to stay away from the cliffs, and yet there have been people looking on the cliffs.
What time does the clue come out tonight? Anyone??
This is what I heard earlier in the week.
The papers we get at the PP are the very first ones off the presses and they are printed specifically to hand out downtown. In the early clues, they don't anticipate needing a lot, and so it doesn't take too long to print those off. As you get later in the hunt, you need a few hundred or more, and so it takes longer to print them, and thus the clue comes out later and later each time.
I rushed into the PP thinking I'd found the treasure, but they just notified the Sheriff that false information was being posted. Imagine that ...
Now I gotta start back at post #1 and try to find out who told me the new treasure was a hinge. It was nicely inscribed tho ...

Been meeting people out there Erica? Sorry I haven't had a chance to really introduce you to anyone.

Hmmm, sounds kind of painful actually.

Sweet joe!
Oh man KT.. lol the's the BEST JOE!
yeah it's funny, because I have been talking to most of the crew since 99 and haven't met one of them.

every year I think I'm going to the RHB and then something comes up that I can't make it. Maybe this year though, my 9 year old really wants to go

I'm pretty sure someone said they were going to post it tonight.
that could possibly work for me, but I hate going out at night alone.
yeah slim's down there and she's gonna call me with the clue and I'll post it when I get it :)
she must be feeling better?
The medallion is nakedthis year, so it can be dropped on clue 12, and who would know?
Unfortunately today would have been the day for a daytime meeting.

You know AW- it's funny now that I think about it I met you at Valley in either 00' or 01' on a very early clue.
That's possible as in 2001 I did think it was at Valley through clues 3 and 4. I'd have to think back to who I met out there though.
is my favorite vegetable!

JazJae - You had best show up at the RHB this year!
I Know I know -- Oh yeah forgot to mention that I know Terry!!
[Edited by on Jan 30, 2005 at 08:28pm.]
Someone has loose hinges? Too funny!
I still think they dropped it last year... it was just too... convienant that that guy found it by just "kicking" around some snow.
yeah how we all missed it lying right there in the open snow is beyond me!
Here is some found hinges this year.
I'm not sure what the malt liquor bottle cap is doing there?
I don't believe that. Cluemaster had a picture he took the night before with a strange glow coming from the snow about where it was found. I believe if he had checked that photo, he would have had the medallion.Â
Terry is a good person to know.

So that's one of the hinges I saw in the fire pit today I guess.
this is really weird about all the found hinges.
Amen to that Allison!

Actually he didn't even kick it. He saw it just sitting there and went over and picked it up.
