Ditto on that... Carolyn had a sex on the beach also, and I had a Jameson/Coke, and we both had a couple shots of Patron... it was all cheaper (and always has been), than most other places we hit up, from time to time....

the "new" yarusso's is the same as the old one... just with some new paint, and fixed up additions...

more pictures will be up on the walls, they're still adding things here and there....

the same people run the place, as I have grown up with, and my mom grew up with, and my grandfather grew up with... how they have suddenly changed into a cold environment, is lost on me..... I dont understand that statement.

the bartender hasnt been around that super long, so I think we can give the guy a break, if he didnt know how to make something or other....

    Well Put!

and As far as a bartender goes after doing it I have seen people that have done it for years that can serve a Caption coke and or something that simple! and I have seen people who have been around for a day who can mix anything! but I would be willing to bet if it was something someone drank a little more often he would know how to make it Fast and GOOD!!

thats the way a bar works reparation you forget drinks that dont sell and find new ones that DO!!

"Official" Winter Carnival Event = $15 cover charge (and a hefty damage deposit, probably)

From my Jaycees days I remember that practically any 'Official' town event (in St. Cloud and several other cities) required that you had some sort of liability insurance policy that was 'postable' at the booth or whatever - I don't think St. Paul is any different. Since we really don't even have a collective checking account or mail box, we probably cannot get the paperwork needed to go 'Legit'.

Paperwork is NOT my deal. Personally I'd rather be digging. In snow. In a park. For the puck. Have the donation jar at Obbs, pass the hat for MM, and I'm happy. Whatever happens after that will be left up to whatever God you pray to out in the frikin' cold.

good Point on this!!! I do rember having to park A few blocks away!! and I am not getting any Younger!! lol

    also with this!>

but $345 is a fair amount of change for Obbs to put out for the PDG.

Obbs Gets a ton of money I know from working at the Mounds theater they are and are not as good as people say they are they have there problems like over charging more then once Have I and others been in there for something after the mounds theater and they have had to try and figer out the bill!! the only reason we go back is they let us use chairs free from there!

other wise they have tried to charge us for drinks we didnt order and also for a meal that we didnt order sorry but I am all for Yarruso's!

if not this year then next!!!

and Me2 on the note of you said they sent us over some free bread and pasta plus the sausages and they Catered food for the wake!!! plus Every time I was in there last hunt they where giving me free stuff food and booze and Freddie always Remembers us when were in there! if he has time he stops by and says hi! like he did with me the other night! and I thanked him! also last year the Rehash I think 3M stopped by to pick it up correct me if I am wrong but they gave FOOD and Shirts for that also!

so they have taking care of US More then just that small plate of food that there was 4-6 of them!?!?

So I think for after this years hunt the Powers that be need to open a poll for this and put it to a vote I will go talk to Freddie if I have to that's fine with me I will ask him if we can get the WHOLE place for our Pre-Dig after this year! I have a feeling if we did they would do a ton of promo for us and other stuff like that also!

and if I am not mistaken you and BFG were talking about trying to do a cover of some sort??? What happened with that and who started that talk?!?!

Who even brought that up at that point this was said at the Pearl show!!!

sorry to throw you under a bus but I would like to know more about that!!!!!! because that is something that should be brought up to the group! and talked about!

    thank you,

Preach it brotha. And nick too. I'd say all bets are off at obbs if there were to be a cover charge there and I know I'm not alone. Party at yarussos in that case.

And just out of curiosity is this just a rumor about a cover charge because it wasn't mentioned here before today.

He told me it was $5.75 for a sex on the beach

I asked when Carolyn bought hers - wth?

my drink was $5.75 - $21 for 4 drinks. All I wanted was a screwdriver (not a goofy drink) and lemon drop shots which were in skimpy little fancy glasses - so not only did it cost more than average, he jipped us on the quantity.

Emily didn't even have grenadine color in her drink.

Buggs was only $1.25 for beer (including Summit)

I disagree. When I have run events at these venues, I did not need any additional insurance. There are places you could go where you would need insurance, but these places already have their own insurance. I know that to march in the parade there's some sort of insurance required, but that's because there is no overriding policy on that which would cover people. At an established venue, you would be covered under the establishment's policy so I would think further insurance would be redundant. I'm not positive about that and of course we'd check all that out beforehand. If it was true and the cost would be prohibitive, then no, we wouldn't bother. However I would be surprised if it played out that way just because the Winter Carnival's name was attached to it.

what Im getting at is similar to what you just said -

renting a place means paying for it. Hense a cover charge would pay for the rental. Thats what I meant by covercharge. It pays for something.... rental or food or both to have the place. Who is gonna fork out the $$ to rent a place otherwise?

If it turns out there is a cover, I say we just need to suck it up and pay it or take up a collection to pay the costs the cover is meant to cover. I heard something about a $5 cover from Jake a couple of weeks ago. If so, then it's not Obbs fault. They presumably made a good faith agreement to come up with terms that would give us what we want. The real problem would be that the cover wasn't publicized more.

Your Patron was less than usual but not the sex on the beach.

Im wondering if the guy just randomly doesn't know his liquor and if it looked fancy he charged more. Patron wasn't in a cool bottle. AND the orange juice wasn't real orange juice.

I'd still go where to Cooler goes cause I love everyone and will go where they go to be around you all. They need a larger liquor selection and better bartender or 2!

well and if there is a $5 cover I am going to be MAD!!! because I am now driving from Minnatonka and also don't have $5 bucks that I can trow at it! I don't have a $1 to my name let alone 5 of them! And just because Jake thinks he knows whats best for him then that's great not good for alot of us! I know at least 3 CC members who are out of work right now!

And I for one hate the stairs at Obbs because after climbing them and shit My back is killing me I have 3 herniated disks in my lower back and I can think of a few people that the stairs there effect WAY MORE THEN ME!!

So I think Like I said this year we go with it then the Powers that be set up a board for a poll you are allowed one post in it to explain your thoughts and leave it at that your vote is counted for that post and only that post! or set up a poll on another website! like facebook! where everyone that isn't on here can also get there input in to it!

You are correct in that Yarrusos had given much. There is no doubt about that. I was talking about that particular night though. Its not like we all walked in and they gave us all that food. I think it was Queen or AW that mentioned it earlier.... Whos to say that Obbs wouldn't have catered to the funeral? I definatly like Yarussos food and neighborhood and ownership.

As for the cover... As most of you mentioned...paying for a place was an option.... Obb's isn't charging us to use the place. There is an option that the guys have to post.... I don't consider being thrown under the bus (would hope you would pull me if that ever happened)... I just felt is was the guys place to post the details of Jimmys offer.

As for grenadine...thats fine if she asked for none but we talked about it at the table and that didn't seem the case. thanks for clearing that up. no problem.

So what are we looking at?! is there a cover is there some deal worked out for only the People that were there know about are we going to get there and someone is going to saying well we have a deal for you if you pay this much you get this much or what is the deal!!

Jimmy isn't charging a cover charge.

It would be a Cooler Crew option -

Jimmy said last year that he had trouble with serving food downstairs (or something like that). The waitress having trouble with tabs??

The kitchen is usually ONLY open until 10 pm. Since we are there til 3am SOME OF US would go 5 hours with no food in our bellys but too much to drink. YOU CANNOT ENTER/RE-ENTER the bar after 1am - So looking out for the best interest of the majority...

Jimmy has a kitchen that he wanted to close and send staff home at 10 pm. He would have trays of food staying in warmers to bring down later for us ....

So Jimmy offered that for $250 he would serve appetizer type food downstairs until midnight. Spreading out the food every hour or so so it didn't run out right away.

That would make it about $5 per person to be able to have a bite to eat and hopefully keep the over drinkers from puking later (my opinion). OR some of us being HUNGRY later in the evening.

I would rather pay $5 (being extremely broke!) than pay $15 for a meal that accidentally gets taken from a table cause someone thought I was done eating OR stays cold in a corner. I personally would rather eat a little in moderation throughout the whole night than fill my tummy at 8 pm and starve the rest of the eveing.

Originally, the thought was that anything OVER $250 could go to a dj, and or now could go to Nicole ???

Jimmy won't have a waitress downstairs taking any food orders. So the alternative is to split the group up and people who want to pay more than a mear $5 for a meal upstairs unitl 10 pm CAN.

Jimmy is forking out for the permit and really wanted us to have a better way to deal with food for everyone involved.

What would you like to do?

Food on your own til 10?

Food until midnight for $5 at the door? extra going to a dj/Nicole.

GUYS? feel free to say what you know about it IF my post is incorrect or my interpretation of what Jimmy offered is different.

Personally I like Yarusso's a lot. I met with Freddie on a number of occasions during last years hunt and picked up the food they donated for the RHB. Throw in the catering and stuff like the free apps the other night and you can't ask for a more hospitable family establishment. Granted the place has changed from what it was but the heart is still there. All that aside things still can't be changed at this late hour. So talking about this year is really a moot point rug now. But I like the idea of giving Yarusso's a chance for next years PDG if we're able to secure the rest of the place. Otherwise that back room is just too small. There was never going to be a mandatory cover at OBBS even with them paying for the license. There were options regarding the food and possibly anything extra set aside for liman. Or Nicole as things changed. I think me2 was going to post about the options. It may be too late for the late night APPITIZERS but who knows.

Well I am presonal going to go to Mickie's after the party like always it has been something I have done a few years other then last year and had fun down there but other then that I am going to eat before I get there because I dont have ANY MONEY!!! at all! and dont plan on drinking alot of the problem with food last year was the fact that People were ording food and it would never get there so they went up stairs to eat and also I like to eat where I can talk and not have to yell! well I am talking so I am not going to be eating there to begin with! but I think this is something that Should have been Brought up a long time ago so now what it comes down to is we are also finding out that after 10 there may not be anything for FOOD or service at all so we have the place tell 3 but nothing to hold us over after 10pm or in some case the reason for bars to stay open after closing time is to have some food but for him to pay to get the permit to stay open and then not have anything to make money on after 10 makes since to me!!

but ok sounds to me like a GOOD IDEA!! NOT REALLY But ok I guess!!

I agree with Mickeys - thats a given for most of us. HOWEVER, our group keeps growing and it's hard to squeeze us all in to Mickeys too... hense Mikey may need to stand on stools to make room for us all again

I am a mom and personally want t be sure everyone has a great time! IF for any reason someone NEEDS food or something to eat because of drinking??? There won't be any! NONE! I know some may say thats the problem of the person who is drinking.... I disagree, we take care of eachother. No stone should be left unturned to make this a fun carefree night.

This way people who have a little $ don't have to pay as much and those who have alot of $ pay less. Everyone all around forks out less for the night and gets a bite to eat IF they need it. I'm NOT saying everyone gets a MEAL. It's appetizers type food and should be considered as so.

Some of you mention PAYING for a place to have a pre-dig ...well, you don't get anything cept the place for that price. AND, who is gonna pay? donations? The difference here is that we get something out of it.... food. But if we took donations, what if there isn't enough donated to cover the $250? hense $5 per person. $5 is a deal!

    Clue Master

I'm posting from my phone and didn't see that me2 already posted the options. Mickeys is fine except is is always packed but we always seem to make it work out. I dint say anything about the $5 option because I know that this bunch is more generous when asked for a donation rather than a cover charge. Even if $5 is a deal many will scrutinize what they get for their $5. But would be more than ok with giving $10 towards room rent and getting apps as a bonus. We were talking about wristbands for those who did pay but thought that was creating the elitist look that we're trying to get away from. Its just easier to say that there will be food upstairs until 10 for those who want it. And you're right ck that its jimmys call if he feels that keeping the kitchen open after 10 would be worth it or not. That's his call. I think he just wanted to provide an option where best interests were in place for both sides.

right and it says more to come and the only thing that was posted on it after that was that the closing time was now 3! and nothing more!

are they giving any reg food discounts like last year or are we just straight up on the same food and drinks as the rest of the bar?

If so then it looks like last year they just did the deals to get us in and called it a good day! now we are just a reg. group of people that want to use his building!

so again I say next years should be put to some kind of a vote and figer out if we are going to go with one place or the other!

but on this note I am about done it is set in stone that this year we are going to be at Obbs and thank you to the people that Set it up for doing the work but next time I think there should be someone taking notes and come back and post about it!! I am in other groups that we have to do that and they are smaller groups then this one so maybe its time to figer this stuff out!!!

we are going to have to figer out how we can work for Every one and help with health and needs problems also! Obbs is not vary user friendly!! because of the Stairs!!!

personally, i would much rather have real food rather than appetizers (especially apps that have been sitting in a warmer for 5 hours) and even if there is no food downstairs i'll walk up, order, get it, and bring it back down before the kitchen closes (in a to go box, if need be). i imagine a lot of other people will do the same thing. some people would go the appetizer route. so long as its not mandatory to pay for the food in order to get in the door i have no problem with it (requiring a pay to play for the "downstairs food" is also just fine, imho), if jimmy's not gonna have food service at all downstairs anyway, it makes the idea even better, but should really emphasize the need to go elsewhere if he's not willing to meet the needs of the group. if, however, having the food for 5 bucks a head is gonna require everyone walking in to shell out 5 bucks, then it is basically a cover charge with benefits and we can't allow it.

    my $0.02.

like the Mounds Theater. I'm okay with Yarrusos in the future and during this years hunt. Like I said, I will go where everyone goes...the only place I've really had a problem with ever was Wild Tymes...this isn't the reason why... but remember, they would give the upper room but food HAD to be purchased as a group AND charge a big TIP. As for handicapp.... Mc Governs was always upstairs or down with no other way than stairs.
