Just for the record, that was Great Waters, not Wild Thymes, should anyone want to consider Wild Thymes in the future.

Here's an example of an option for next year. There's a place called DeGidio's on West 7th. I've not been there yet but they've been there a long time and they have a banquet room as opposed to just a back room that will hold 180 people. There are photos of it here http://www.degidios.com/photos.asp

Chances are we could work a deal where we have a 40 person minimum on the $15 buffet and then anyone and everyone that wants to do the buffet can assuming they come by 7pm. Then at 8pm anyone else can come for absolutely free and we promise a $500 inimum at the bar (which I'm sure would be no problem to meet). We would pay $0 in room rental fees. People that can't afford anything can still come at no charge. Those that can afford dinner get a great buffet at a decent price. And we all get to enjoy a really nice room with no stairs. Whether or not it becomes an official Winter Carnival event is actually a side issue, but I think this would be the way to go in the future, either at this place or something like it. There's no particular tradition or loyalty involved, but this has been a family run place since the 1930's so I'm sure we could quickly establish some.

Love DeGideo's. Eat there a lot. The grooms dinner for my daughter's wedding was held there this past June. Big open room with a bar and the food is fantastic.

I kind of like Snake's booya idea. BOOYA!

Incidentally, the reason DiGidio's came to mind is I have a gift certificate for there for $25. It's from Restaurant.com so the only catches are I have to use it Sunday through Thursday and the entire bill needs to exceed $50. So anyone up for a trip over there for a really cheap dinner during the hunt? Looking at their menu, I think we would need at least 5 or even 6 people to spend $50 there.

of course...some "girl" manages to leave a wad of cash in a bank envelope and a cell phone on top of it in a back corner with nobody watching it or even near it.....

maybe a $5 buck cover is cheap compared to finding $200 buck sitting there....

but seriously...watch your cameras, money, phones, etc. we don't know everybody in the room as much as we think we do...

but we couldnt figer out any of the numbers in it they were coded!! or something it was funny!! I thought I was going to have a good night!

And it's been almost that long since I've enjoyed a deck as much as I enjoyed yours. Really, it's not the size that matters but what you do with it and placement's everything. Your deck is just perfect for me.

OK, story time. You know that building at the north end of the Lafayette Bridge next to Savoy's that has a sign on it that says, "Big Wood/Timber Frame"? Well, my father's name was John Timbers and he worked at Wood Bros Commission firm in the old Exchange Building in SSP, which I always thought was ironic having a last name of Timbers and working for a firm called Wood Bros.

Last winter, after one of my grandson's confirmation at the St. Paul Cathedral, we were looking for a place to get a bite to eat and decided on Savoy's. As we were pulling into the parking lot facing that building I told me family, "See that Big Wood sign? When I see it I always think of my father". After I realized what I'd said and explained what I'd meant by that we all had a good laugh. I'm sure that moment will go down in our family lore.

Hey peeps-

Think my question got buried in the slog...

Anyone think Karaoke would be fun at the PDG? Lilman says "maybe" when I asked if he would run it... he is being noncommittal

HA! I should share this with the non-infidels. We could stop the war with this one!

I think good karaoke could be fun. Bad karaoke could be painful. Maybe an hour of it at 9pm would be a good transition to the DJ music.

There is no such thing as bad karaoke

The cool thing is, I can get just about any song you can imagine as long as people let me know ahead of time.

I am a karaoke nerd, obviously. :ooh:

Bad Karaoke just means you started it too early in the evening...

REALLY bad karaoke means the dogs are fleeing the neighborhood in mass numbers...

If it was just you singing that would be one thing. But even if I think I'm good at it after 1,2 or 16 beers I know that I really ain't very good when looking back at the tape.

they offered to put fresh stuff out every 2 hours til midnight.

why not go with Davids idea... $5 for anyone til 9 or 10 who want to eat - then food gets put away for those who dont want to pay .... the downfall to that idea is that the purpose was so that people had a snack til after midnight cause the last tray (s) would go out then. I don't think you can buy an appetizer in most bars/restuarants for $5! and most people do buy appetizers with their meals. So in theory if you want to eat a 'meal' and waste 45 minutes of your predig evening upstairs and paying for a waitress than do it. Just buy a meal upstairs and save on the appetizer by having a late night snack hours after you ate downstairs for $5. Great deal! If you don't eat the appetizers you at least know your $5 went to entertainment music or Mystical Muzik! THAT EASY!

there was talk about wristbands but like registering a button, people with wristbands would give to non paying wristband people - then who pays the difference of the $250 when it falls short?

In theory only 50 people are needed to make the $250 so consider it a donation and anything (which there would be) would go to Nicole and the DJ for tip music 50/50.

Im broke but is $5 REALLY that big of a deal for everyone? my god.
