I left a tip once... on a napkin... it read "get a new job, you suck at this one"...

It was very very very bad service in order for me to do that - I always give the servers the benefit of the doubt, but there was no excuse in this case.

I see your Donald Trump and raise you Dwight Schrute...

"Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did, however, tip my urologist. Because, I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones."

Good one Tim! I'm going to say that we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I was raised that you should always take care of people who provide a service to you. Not everyone was raised that way. By no means do I agree with everything Trump says, but to say we are in trouble if we use him as a barometer is wrong. He's rich, very successful, and happy. Isn't that what we all want?

Have to admit I always tip too. I guess I give the server the benefit of the doubt because I really don't know the circumstances behind poor service.

For what it's worth...TIPS means ...To Insure Prompt Service.....

With that said, there is some wait staff that deserve generous tips and some that don't deserve to be tipped at all, yet keep in mind many venues attach a tip to the bill on parties of 8 or more people because the venue is already making special arrangements for the party.

So's working at McDonald's, but

you don't feel the need to tip

them. They're servin ya food, you

should tip em. But no, society

says tip these guys over here, but

not those guys over there. Thats bullshit.

Snake, we're talking real life, not movies. I see the other side of the coin, I just don't agree with it at all.

You know Ares, its almost too bad we can't stand each other. I actually enjoy debates such as this.

I agree with you...There are many reasons why a server could end up giving you bad service. It could be the cook that messed up, another waitress had an order just like yours order and served it to the customer, and your order had to be remade.....maybe you requested changes to the order after the order was placed... and the list goes on...Yes, I always tip giving the benefit of the doubt.
Tue, 01/12/2010 - 10:25 AM Permalink
ares

oh i've had that happen way too many times, and when the server comes and lets you know what's going on, all is forgiven. lack of communication, however, and it comes off the tip because there is something the server can do about the situation, even if it doesn't *fix* the situation.

Quick math for Tipping: 15% tip

Bill: $39.92

Move the decimal over one space: $3.99 ---- that's 10% right there

Divide that in half: $3.99 / 2 = $2 --- that's 5%

Add the two - $4+$2 = $6 --- 15% tip

People that try to do exact tippage to the penny need another drink, in my humble opinion.

Other charges:

Waitress smiles a lot and is friendly; $2 per person

Waitress has big boobs: $5

Waiter lets you pat him on the backside at least once: $5

Lapdances - Um, Cluey - need some help figuring that one out...

I think it's funny that we tip anyone in the gambling industry. Do they give us any free pull tabs or an extra card if we fall flat on our face for the crap they gave us? No. I just wish I was more frugal. (which I might be forced into at this point in my life) but I've always been a great tipper for everyone and anyone. From the housekeeper at a hotel to the mechanic who changes my oil to my barber to the cashier at SA because they opened up a register for me when there was a long line. Even though I may tip less for bad service I still voice a little note of how they could be better next time. They can take it or not. The industry will determine if they make it or not. I wonder if it's because I'm in the service industry? Even though I've never received a tip I do know what goes into the final result that leads to getting a tip. There are plenty of factors behind the scenes that most people don't even think about that could inspire bad service.

Plus, if you tip certain professions that normally don't receive a tip - they usually remember you and go way out of their way to help you in the future.

I tip generously most of the time. I may consolidate a few drinks or so together, but I tip. If the service sucks, they just get less. Unless I see them pick their nose and touch my plate or something...

Heck, I pay $11-12 here for a $4.50 haircut. But then again the workers here are making $13-18 a day, and are stuck away from home 2 years at a time.

Do as I do and nobody gets hurt.

I have got a Z-Plan Why the hell is your work making a Z-plan!?!

Also my .02 on the tipping thing is the Fact I have worked in and out of BARS and I know if you don't make the cut you don't get money I tip Vary accordingly!!!! if I get Good Service the Price Goes WAY UP and there are tons of factors to take in to play when tipping I give .25 if you Suck and that's all you get but if you good I have tipped 100% on a bill before! and I am well knowing at alot of places for my tipping! there are people who have said he tips like shit and then after the other server gets done there like NO he tips great! I have had wait staff come over after they hear that and ask and I will tell they why they got what they DID!!

And I have tipped in places people have asked me why the hell am I tipping them!!

Also after being a Limo driver and dealing with all the A-holes that have money and think that your just doing your job and dont Tip hello its a SERVICE TIP ASSHOLES!!! I can almost bet that ALOT OF you have took a limo Ride and never eavne thought to TIP!

new link: http://coolercrew.com/meetthecrew

i've incorporated everyone (well almost everyone; there were a few exceptions like scribe, for obvious reasons) who i had info for in the past, as well as everyone who sent me new info.

if you don't like that your info doesn't look like everyone else's, too bad  i'm experimenting with this stuff so that i can automate it in the future and seeing what ways work best with the html and layout. if you don't like what your info says, let me know. same thing applies to pictures (on the right hand column). send me a new one. the ones on the left are linked to your ableminds avatars.
