it wasnt exactly about tipping the waitress and it definately wasnt about not liking us...there isn't a waitress to us because we move around too much.

Last year she spent too much time tracking some people down that it did make serving others difficult. So if anyone didn't tip her or tipped her less because they felt they werent served quickly enough... well its our own faults of our friends who moved around. danced, went to the bar, walked across the room to talk to others.

um, or it coulda been Jake.

I would tell her why she wasn't getting a tip. and then get a different waitress or go to the bar because I wouldn't want her spitting in my drink or having it made weak the rest of the night.

Its like you making all those calls and having people hang up on you... it doesnt feel good to not be treated with pleases and thank yous in everyday conversation. I would consider the thank you to the dentist receptionist for not placing me on hold a couple times either to answer other calls or talk to patients.., thank you for giving me your undevided attention to get this taken care of for me. Its not like I dont have 100 other things to do today. Thanks for keeping this efficent.

We went to a massage place in Afton in December. Really rough day. Got there about 30 minutes past our appointment time, which put us 30 minutes past closing time on the tail end. When we walked in we were razzled from all the running around all afternoon just to make it to the appointment just to finally relax.... the women never said a bad word. They were cordial and no frowns or looks to eachother like "finally"... When we were done I tipped them around 30% and told them EXACTLY why. It wasnt for their prompt service because who wants a masuse (I now this isn't spelt correct, but its close to 4am and Im tired and going to bed, not looking it up) to be quick? I thanked them. rrrreally thanked them. For going above and beyond in giving us undevided non stress attention. I also told her it's close to to Christmas AND I Can't always tip like that but I really aprreciated them...we walked out the door and I listened from the foyer...they were talking about the great tip! we go there a few times a year...we are in their computer system...THEY WILL NOT FORGET US and do a great massage job again.

But I'll tell you - It does feel weird waiting for someone else as it definitely drives home that nobody really cares what you have going on in your life if it's affecting theirs. Makes me be a bit more understanding and make things a little more important even if other things do come up.

And it wouldn't be the first time someone has told us an earlier time just to get us there on time. :eyeroll:

Guess I didn't look close enough to notice the hours. Bummer, they would be a good location and big enough too. Is that just food times or does the bar stay open later? I've only been there 1 time for lunch a few months ago.

I see that my name has been tossed around a bit on this thread regarding the idea of having a cover charge. The original idea was to have the $5 cover both so that there weren't a million separate checks, and also so that we'd have food from 10-close, when the kitchen is closed. I believe the price they gave us was $250 for a few big trays of hors d'oeuvres. I had no idea it would cause so much strife. For me the $5 would definitely be worth it to have food from 10-close. I realize I am a bit late to join the discussion, so I am wondering if we have reached a verdict on this yet?

4 of us have put up the "front money" for the food. then people can voluntarily give $5 if they want to eat.

Revised message:

The Pre Dig Gig is this Saturday at Obbs starting at 7pm. We have the basement reserved all to ourselves where there will be karaoke and a DJ. You can pick your park in the pool and see all of your treasure hunting friends (and make new ones!) They won't be serving food downstairs, but you can order dinner upstairs until 10pm. After that, a few people have chipped in to order a buttload of appetizers that will be served downstairs after 10pm until closing. They'll be taking donations towards the cost ($5 is the suggested amount). At 1am they kick out the rest of the patrons and then we have the place as a private party until 3am! Do note, they can not sell any alcohol after 1 am, but you are free to buy as much as you like prior to that and take your time finishing it. So don't miss out on the biggest preparty to the biggest treasure hunt of the year!

Is that all correct?

And then some bad news.

We had our Mason meeting tonight so I inquired about renting the place for the Rehash Bash. As a Mason, they give me 30% off their standard price. Unfortunately their standard price is $500 so we're looking at $350 to rent the place for an afternoon. I told him that was a lot more than we had paid in the past so I would have to check on it so we're not committed to anything and I suggested it might be iffy.

Another option is the building at Newell. It is available year round and can hold up to 100 people. The price there is $136 for 3 hours. It's the same price for the Como Streetcar station which holds 75 people. Unless someone has an in with something, I don't think we'll get much cheaper than that.

The other option again is to drop the potluck and get a private room at a bar. there would be no rental fee, but we'd be expected to buy food and drink.

I would go with either the street car station or Newell. Either one would work I think as we don't get as many at the Rehash Bash.

We may get more this year with no Superbowl to contend with. I still doubt it would be more than 100 though. And even if it is, we can have a bonfire outside so that people could go in and out.
Thu, 01/14/2010 - 8:37 PM Permalink
Terry

Exactly. I think that may be our best option...and I like Newell.
