Mom will be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks, so she'll be in a cast and on a scooter.

I'm sure she'll be up and dancing in time for your wedding.

I'd rather she be healthy long-term, then do something stupid just for the sake of dancing at my wedding.

A comment on another board I read, where someone mentioned they were waiting for the Schwan's man, made me curious:

Would Schwan's ice cream on a stick be known as a schwanstuker?

Time to stock up on the Forever stamps. Rates are going up again May 12th.

how much are they?
Fri, 04/04/2008 - 1:16 PM Permalink

They're 41 cents right now. They were 39 cents when they came out before the last increase. They are always sold at the current postage rate, but if you buy enough you can use them no matter how high the rates increase. I'm still using the 39 cent ones, but I'm going to buy some more before May 12.

I'm still paying 70% of my bills by snail mail - time to give them a credit card number.

My wife is a huge birthday card person, so she wants to stock up as well. She makes homemade cards - I think she bought out "Stampin' Up!"'s entire inventory of stamping supplies.

I pay most of mine by mail too. I don't know how to do it where I decide when to pay and it isn't just taken out at their discretion. My house and car insurance comes out automatically.

All but a very few come out of our checking account automatically. It is just a couple credit card bills that we pay off monthly that don't get paid on auto pay. And at least one of the credit cards, we pay online when it's due.

Works slick. We still have Christmas stamps we haven't used yet.

The only check I ever write out is for the water bill. And I drop that off at the drop box outside city hall. I have so many stamps left from thank you cards that I might double up on them just to use them instead of buying the 2 cent fillers. I never use the auto pay option for any bill though. I wanna choose when I pay.

I like having the choice when to pay also.

I don't know how to do that. My daughter tried to show me once, but it didn't stick.

I pay some bills in person. I drive to Bester Bros Storage, Troje Trash, Bldg Trades Credit Union and the gas station to pay my monthly bills at the end of the month. Gets me out of the house.

Two of my bills - Insurance and Discover Card - already use the EFT (electric funds transfer) from the checks that I write.

It always throws me when I see my bank statement and "Check 6349" is missing - only to see a $200 withdrawal from Discover card in the "ATM" column instead.

I think that some of those bills can be set up to pay via their web sites, and you can transmit the relevant information only when needed. The problem is having to re-enter your info every time. The browser can save that stuff, but then you have to disable your pop up blocker, etc... etc... etc... :pbpt:

exactly!!!

sounds like I wrote that post.

but give the stamps to OT or someone that can use them.

I just payed the electric and comcast over the phone electronically

I saw a local news story the other day about how the robins, and other early arrivals, would have a difficult time during and after Tuesday's blizzard.

The story recommended putting some black oil sunflower seeds or nuts in a cake pan on a porch or flat suface, as robins typically don't perch on feeders.

So, I put out a cake pan full of sunflower seeds, just beyond the back deck, on a flat surface of snow, level with the deck floor. That was Tuesday afternoon. I have not seen any birds, though.

Tonight, about 10PM, I thought I saw something moving out by the cake pan. It was dark out there, so I flipped on the outside light, which is one of those new bulbs that comes on slowly.

As the light became stronger, I could see that the animal was about the size of a raccoon, and it was chowing on the seeds.

And then I could see that it was black and white and had long fur.

And then the stripes came into focus...

Not exactly what I'd hoped to lure to my feeding station!!

Months ago I posted about refilling printer ink cartridges so I took mine to Walgreens yesterday to give it a try and they don't refill Canon printer cartridges. So I went to a place called Cartridge World in IHG and they filled them. I paid $15 for the color cartridge and $13 for the black. The color one alone costs me almost $25 at Best Buy, so it's a good deal. They seem to work fine to me.

Thanks, Mikey! I needed a good laugh!

Lights were blazing all night last night and the times I looked out, no signs of Pepe. But then, if I hadn't happened to look out in those five minutes I did, two nights ago, I would have thought the deer ate the seeds during the night, and would have been none the wiser!

Sometimes critters come out in the springtime that you just don't normally see.

A couple years ago, after the first 60-degree day, the following afternoon there was a possum eating off the ground below our bird feeder. Two things were odd about it - first of all it was two in the afternoon- full daylight -- the other was the size of the possom - about the size of a small dog! Darn near 20 pounds I swear to God!

I suppose it has just woke up from hibernation and was starving. I didn't dare let the dog out by that ugly thing. Sure enough, it came back again about 10 that night - I tried to take pictures of it through the patio door, but the glass reflected the flash. About three months later there was a big dead one on the side of a nearby road - I think that night have been him.

The thing that concerns me is that if this skunk just came out of hibernation and was starving, it would not have been so huge.

Which makes me wonder if it is pregnant, and if so, it has already found or is looking for a place to give birth.

Yikes!!!

Kind of reminds me of an old Ole and Lena joke...

Eags

Ole and Lena were driving along a country road when they saw some baby skunks in the ditch.

No mama skunk was visible, and Lena just couldn't stand the thought of leaving the poor little things there.

Lena announced her intention to form a little pouch with her skirt front, and take the skunks home in the truck.

Ole protested, "But Lena! Vat about da smell?"

To which Lena replied, "Oh, dey'll get used to it!"

I do have a few blank pucks left. They are 2" in diameter and 1/2" thick. I also know of a place that will laser engrave any black and white image file into the puck.

I haven't seen the AW hunt med yet. That was laser engraved and then was hand painted to make the engraving stand out.

Let me know if you'd like a blank puck. I only have few left, but could get a few more if needed. They run about $3-$4 each, plus engraving which is in the neighborhood of $20-$40 depending on the detail.

And to think - we were entertained for close to ten years by a sock puppet made from Gramma's green felt coat liner...
