If nobody has heard of (I wouldn't be surprised, I had to read the description to find out what it was) or seen the movie "King of California", I'd recommend it to any treasure hunter. I picked it up at Redbox tonight after finding out it was about a guy that follows an old journal and thinks there's gold buried under a Costco. Parts of it were just hilarious, and Michael Douglas played the part of a crazy guy spot on.
Geocachers should find one part funny, he's tracking down some points of interest with a GPS, begging his daughter to stop on a freeway so he can check something out. Made me think of Ian, lol.
I saw that around the time of the 24 hr hunt when I was on a treasure hunt movie kick. The thoughts of our searching madness and drive to the X-treme shows in the King of California. I really liked the ending.
I get home from work early on Fridays and usually crash for a 3-4 hour nap - as a result I'm still fairly awake now - but it is nighty-night time. Cya soon!
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone
Our building is doing that tonight as well. No crown or public areas or construction floors. Most tenants already turned off lights that they don't always need on. Here's what we sent out to all the tenants:
On Saturday, March 29th the City of Minneapolis will be participating in
"Earth Hour." This is a new initiative asking that individuals and
companies voluntarily participate in a one hour shut down of all
non-essential power. This year, the hour will take place from 8-9pm
tomorrow night.
Attached you will find a document from the City of Minneapolis outlining
the program and its goals in detail.
As a building, 225 South Sixth will be participating in Earth Hour by
turning off non-essential lighting in the building. This shut-down will
not affect tenants or their suites. Tenant participation will be
voluntary. If you would like to participate, please turn computers off,
instead of logging out, turn off work station lights, and turn off any
other non-essential electrical items.
All life, safety and operations power will remain on. If you have any
questions or concerns, or would like additional information on how and
what to turn off in your suite, please call the Hines Management office.
Together, we can make a difference, conserve energy, and reduce our
impact on the environment. One hour of solidarity in this mission is a
Google has "Shut Off The Lights" on their home page in solidarity - they have a black background instead of white.
Something to think about:
Any device (mostly electronics) that have a 'standby' mode with a power indicator light that glows whether it is on or off - they are still sucking power.
I think KSTP 5 did a test and found out a lot of TV's and Surround sound systems suck as much as 40% of the power in 'standby' as when they are turned 'on'. They need to be in standby so that they can still receive a 'power-on' signal from your remote, but 40% sounds like overkill.
Most modern devices have flash memory that saves channel preferences, etc... even when the power is disconnected. I think I heard there is a power strip 'remote' device that can toggle the juice on and off to anything plugged into it. Supposedly it can be programmed like a TV for your universal remote.
Empty your internet browser's cache - it probably has the white page 'stored' and opens IT up instead of downloading a new page (as a time saving feature).
wonder if I can get out to get a picture. I was gonna watch the Nickolodeon Awards with Jack Black tonight.
so is that like when I have my laptop on 'sleep' mode it sucks the battery down? so if I want to keep it on 'sleep' mode but get rid of the white screen? or turn the screen to black? how do I do that? I'm confused. I wonder if there is a way to not wear my battery down but still have it on sleep mode.
Woke up a 5 am Sunday wide awake - crashed last night almost immediately after we got home from the concert. Blue Man was great!
Most of what they did at the concert you can find in snippets on youtube, since they are kinda relaxed about videos, etc... But to see it in person is another thing entirely.
We brought along earplugs in case they got noisy, but truth be told, the crowd was louder than the band! In between a couple of songs they give 'credit' to people in the 'crappy seats' by marching to the back of the auditorium and have them do a left-vs-right-side cheering contest that really raised the roof. Reminded me of the Viking games when they were a hot team.
I talked to a couple of attendants, and they said about 10,000 attended. The topmost balcony was largely empty, but the whole lower level was packed. Huge range of age - eight year olds to 80 w. lots of families were there.
What do y'all think about organizing a Cheer committee for the Cooler Crew?
When situations arise where we lose a member, the committee could do the post for flowers or memorials, and make any arrangements for those.
And maybe set up some guidelines so we make sure we don't do for one what we don't do for another in the same situation. I don't think that has occurred, but it would be easy to miss someone in the future, with a group getting as large as the Cooler Crew is.
The Saint Paul Police Department will be joining other agencies throughout the State in having additional officers on patrol on the 5th, 11th, 18th 19th, 25th, and 26th of April
Eags, that is a good idea. I think we (well, I for one anyway) are so used to "someone else" doing it that we forget that "someone else" may have their own busy-ness going on and may appreciate others' taking the reins.
I'm getting married soon, and I'm expected to get "gifts" for the groomspeople. 3 guys, 1 girl. What have you gotten as gifts? What's an appropriate amount to spend? Girl opinions are certainly welcome, although I understand that they pretty much just get their bridesmaid jewelery as a gift.
We got quite the April Fools joke here in the U.P. while March was busy going out like a lion. Looks like at least 12" of heavy, wet snow here, but my windows are so coated with it, I can't really get a good look outside.
The howling winds finally put the power out this morning, but only for about 90 minutes.
The sun is trying to peek out now, the winds seem to have been sucked to Lake Huron, and maybe now we can resume our attempts to have spring.
Bear - Here is an excellent article that I found... it will answer ALL your questions...
The groomsman gift is your way of saying thank you: for renting the tux, ushering Great Aunt Edna down the aisle, and not saying anything obscene during the reception toast. Here are some simple ideas.
Go for guy things -- it's as easy as that. A silver or leather flask is one of the all-time greatest groomsman gifts: classic, yet occasionally practical, with an unabashed male-bonding quality that's hard to beat for it's price.
Don't get anything that has your blushing bride's signature on it. The groomsman gift is your final good-bye to bachelor life -- a last token high five. Make sure your buddies can tell the present comes from you.
You should avoid gifts that are excessively flamboyant, ridiculously cheap, or still breathing -- but this doesn't mean you have to choose something boring. If you're absolutely positive your college roommate would forgo oxygen for a "My Buddy Got Married and All I Got Was This Stupid T-Shirt" rag, by all means buy it.
The best, and easiest, way to ensure your gift has that personal touch is to add a monogram. A well-placed set of initials can spice up even the most ordinary wallet, cigar case, or cuff link.
Remember that your gift needn't be something you can hold. If you've got a groomsman whose idea of fun involves training for that next triathlon, perhaps a mini membership to a gym or a few hours with a personal trainer would suit him. And, of course, a ticket to a sporting event is usually a hit.
Like the rest of your posse's loot, your best man's gift should say, in a personal and generous manner, "Thanks for helping make my walk down the plank so trouble-free and memorable." That means ballpoint pens are out and engraved humidors, round-trip tickets to Vegas, and courtside basketball tickets are in.
Still, you don't have to break the bank to show your gratitude. If your B.M. was a frat brother, a hearty dinner for two at an old hangout followed by a single malt scotch or Jaegermeister shot is an excellent gesture before the wedding day. Once again, the more personalized the effort, the more meaningful the message.

The "girl" is the head of Risk Management for the National Rifle Association, and she takes sniper training during her lunch hour, because she thinks it's "fun."
Yeah, thought about that, but one of the guys got married last year and he gave me and another groomsman that. So I've got to be out of the box a little.
you'll be missed around here
Geocachers should find one part funny, he's tracking down some points of interest with a GPS, begging his daughter to stop on a freeway so he can check something out. Made me think of Ian, lol.
finally have had time away from work to concentrate on finding a photo
what are you still doing up?
please don't delete it from your dvr.
unless someone knows if it will be replayed again before Tuesday.

The key is what THEY are into...
So, No. You give her a frying pan.
:goofy:
Think anyone at my workplace would be worried if I took lunch breaks to go sniper training?
They all suck at golf.
They're not big drinkers.
What are they into?
My man comes from a line of blue collar workers and I've seen a lot of different things done.
Do they like to hunt or fish?
Not big drinkers, but do they drink beer on occasion?
What sports (if any) are they into?
Gifts don't have to be all the same either.
you can order them from leinies..personalized
