she and her man are over in MPLS for the Cyndi Lauper/ B-52's/Tegan & Sara concert....
She called during a break to see if I knew that ICP was at First Ave tonight....
In the middle of the call she goes... "and dude... there are a ton of lesbians here"....
lmfao...
Its the "True Colors" tour.... its supposed to be some kind of gay/lesbian benefit tour, and she had no idea...
her guy was trying to figure out why he was one of the only males in attendance...
I told her what was up, and she starts laughing..... "ohhhhh..... okay it makes sense now, we were trying to figure out why Rosie O'Donnel was the host, and kept talking about how gay everybody was.... I thought maybe she was just super pissed off about something"
I have a friend who's looking to have Renewal by Anderson windows installed in his house and wanted to see if anyone has any comments, pro or con, on the brand.
Beissel does windows - they did our replacements and we've been very happy with them and the follow up.
When we did these windows, we contacted no fewer than 13 and it may have been 15 window contractors. The prices ranged from about $5,000 to $13,000 for the same 9 windows.
All the contractors had "exclusive, patented" details and some were quite strong in trying to get us to sign on with them right away.
I'm glad we waited. Beissel did a great job and the windows have held up very well. It's been at least 18 years since we had them done.
all our windows that aren't original are from pella and we love 'em. of course, we installed the 2 we've done ourselves.
if you're just looking for for replacement sashes, my brother ordered marvin tilt-pack's from gladstone windows and doors on highway 61 in maplewood for his house and they worked out great.
Still lines to get in there huh? Hmm.. I guess I made the right choice not to go yet. It's ironic that a fast food place would take as long as a sit down place.
Doesn't anyone think this type of fervor for a new dining place is a helluva lot like when Krispy Kreme first opened in Maple Grove? Whatever happened to that place? Hmmmmmmmm... :eyeroll:
I thought I heard Sonic is basically McDonald's as a drive-in. Doesn't the Big Mick have ownership of Sonic?
I think its kind of funny the Sonic opening turned a parking lot into a Lutheran church Lutefisk feed - OK, Jones family, time for you to go downstairs and take your place...
Nick - Bouncy Castle is a bad idea - one high bounce and kid will smack their head on the canopy ceiling. :ooh:
How many barn swallows have their new poop-and-mud nests done already in the canopy?
I'll reserve judgement on weither or not they'll stick around.
Their stuff is good though. Of course, so was krispy kreme's donuts. I do find it ironic that they would choose a location so close to a Krispy Kreme that failed...
It's a great central location for franchises that are new to the area. I think it's safe to say that the location had little to do with Krispy Kreme's demise. Stupid Atkins and his stupid diet are probably more to blame.
Baldwin, WI still has an A&W restaurant open year-round. But its just a restaurant. They did away with the car ports about 15 years ago. They still have the phones at the booths to 'call' in your order - I still think that's cool.
I heard that attendance at Drive-In Theaters is growing again for the first time in 25+ years. Nothing like a $100 gas fill-up to stop that long drive to the Dells.
-- Then again, the new 'attractions' at the Dells are not exactly attractive. Come see the world's largest mud pit! Monster Trucks are Welcome!
Flood the parking lot in winter - make them use ice skates! 2 mph speed limit until you're out in the street!
FYI: Krispy Kreme went bankrupt because they over-extended their licensing to waaaaay to many franchises in waaaaay to many places. All over the U.S. I have the feeling they had a few too many sub-prime real estate loans that bit 'em in the ass.
I just was at Vali-Hi a couple of weeks ago to see Indiana Jones. Before that I hadn't been to a drive-in since I was a kid. We had a great time and plan on going back again real soon. I think it would be a great group activity. With the grills and tailgating going on, it was like a huge party.
I remember the Corral as well. It's weird to think that it was all fields from 110 south. Wasn't 110 called something else before it had 4 lanes? Even before they called it 110/494.
I also remember that the stretch of 110 between Robert and Dodd was the first road ever to use the flashing traffic signs before anywhere else in the nation.
We still try and hit at least two drive-in movies a summer out of tradition. Whether it's at Cottage View or on 94
How long ago did the Drive-In off of Hwy 65 and 95th street in Blaine close? Seems to me that place was still open around 2002 or so. I'm not sure if the go-cart place is still open there anymore, either.
Highway 110 was highway 100 before it became 110 and then 494. Highway 100 was part of the beltway that circled the cities and was built along with the Wakota bridge in the late '50's. I remember sitting on a hill watching them burn down the houses on Church St. to make room for 100.
The Corral Drive In. Good times. The only thing between the Corral and Rosemont was the Clarke farm and Bash Land. Bash Land was an old barn where they held dances on weekends with local bands performing.
The other thing that was on the corner of Robert and Southview - back in the day - was the Cloverleaf Motel. We stayed there when my family moved back from California and the house we were buying wasn't ready yet. I was only four years old, so that would have been 1957, but I recall my mother complaining about the place. We then moved to a filthy rental cabin in White Bear Lake for a couple of weeks. And there was a cloverleaf (style of exits) at the intersection of Robert and Hwy. 100 - and I recall what a novelty that was in MN at the time. Especially out in the middle of nowhere, like it was. Weird to think of it now, but it seemed that the southern border of West St. Paul was the edge of the world then.
There was a restaurant called The Greeks across Robert from the theater and across Mendota road from that was Geno's Drive In restaurant, car hops and all.
Before we had a license, we'd walk out to Corral with blankets and watch movies from the golf course at the rear of the theater.
That's it! I remember they added the 10 to 100 because it was an addition to the existing road. I think that was the last bit of road to be bypassed once 494 was complete. The 494 loop was all completed except that stretch where they still used 110 while they worked on the last bit of 494 from Robert to Bloomington..
I have a favor to ask everyone. Since I do a lot of hotlinking, I can only assume what the end photo looks like. Please let me know if you see a red x or some other type of no-hotlinking message so I can avoid those sites. I haven't hotliniked too much outside of here and 3Ms thread but did today and I guess a porn pic showed up. Figures :eyeroll:
Go Kart place you are talking about has been closed for a couple years as well. Last time I went that way, Highway 65 is all torn up, and they are building bridges across highway 65 is several locations from 694 North to about Main I think. I think they are trying to avoid all the pain in the butt cross traffic and stop lights on 65.
If it doesn't show when you hit 'preview', you'd think its a bad link... but that's not always the case.
I just drove up Hwy 10 for fishing last week and didn't even look when I drove over 65. You really can't look - Hwy 10 is a lunar landscape up there. Many cracks in the road have only been partially filled. Pick your lane carefully!
I lived in Elk River when the 'new' Hwy 10 bypass was completed. I was really wary of the idea of merging Hwy 10 with 35W for three miles. The entire stretch of Hwy 10 from Elk River to 694 needs at least six independent lanes. That's one thing I definitely do NOT miss living in the East Metro - driving through Mpls AND St. Paul rush hour traffic to get to work.
Once it's in my cache it will always show me the picture as is. The only way I can verify if it displays to others as it does for me is to shut down IE and go back in. Refresh won't do it.
I was able to copy the link into another page and view the orange wheel thingy, but once I refreshed this page it went away. Goofy, man.
I got another tech glitch- in the "Member Folders" directory, the "Cooler Crew Cachers" folder ALWAYS shows the little "glasses" icon, even when there are no new messages. I just clicked on the glasses to mark the whole folder as 'read', but I guarantee the next time I log in the same icon will pop up again.
Good thing I don't like it.
if this is true...I could very well be the dumbest person in america.
she and her man are over in MPLS for the Cyndi Lauper/ B-52's/Tegan & Sara concert....

They are local though, so support your local bussiness.

good grubbin...
but we had to wait 40 minutes for the drive-thru....
to get a drive in stall would have been even longer...
to help control the long lines, they set up a "staging area" a couple of parking lots down the road....
damn though...
the foods not bad
the place reminded me of the state fair - cops directing traffic, workers chilling in driveways, telling people where to go....
they need a bouncey castle, or some rides, man!
I thought I heard Sonic is basically McDonald's as a drive-in. Doesn't the Big Mick have ownership of Sonic?

Sonic is owned by Border Foods: Tacobell,Pizzahut,KFC,Long John Silvers....

Their stuff is good though. Of course, so was krispy kreme's donuts. I do find it ironic that they would choose a location so close to a Krispy Kreme that failed...
they declared bankruptcy in Minnesota - there arent any of them here... they all closed, not just that one.
regardless... I think this place will do okay...
Just wondering how they plan on waitressing on roller-skates, come snow/ice season....
every other drive in, I know of, with the exception of Porkys closes up for winter...
The Dariette.... hell A&W becomes a christmas tree lot in December

right now if we go to one, its Vali-Hi, over off of 94.... they have 3 movies, and cost the same as Cottage View, which only has 2...
I like to drive down 94, past the theater, and turn the radio to whatever channel, and try to see what movie is playing... I know - easily entertained
we used to go to Arnolds, on hwy 36, and have burgers/shakes, and then go to Mapleleaf for movies
Now Arnolds is a chinese place, and the drive-in, is storage garages....
I hate when good places go away...
It was on the corner of Robert Street and Southview Blvd. when there was literally nothing south of there yet.
Now there is a Walgreens, Office Max, and a strip mall on that site.
Probably the last drive-in I went to was the Cottage View, but I'll bet that was at least ten years ago.
I also remember that the stretch of 110 between Robert and Dodd was the first road ever to use the flashing traffic signs before anywhere else in the nation.
We still try and hit at least two drive-in movies a summer out of tradition. Whether it's at Cottage View or on 94
That Corral one, you guys mentioned, closed in the late 70's, according to the site...
I think something like that would be a good venture... if you can find space for one...
I'd like to open a chain of cheap "dollar theatres", in various parts of the cities.....since most of those seem to be going away, too.
http://www.valihi.com
they seem to be filling up fast...
Before we had a license, we'd walk out to Corral with blankets and watch movies from the golf course at the rear of the theater.
And I didn't even get to see it.
