yeah i like it better than mambo too. and joomla doesn't even make use of themselves for their documentation. i like software that practices what it preaches. i pulled my old site into drupal as well. even incorporated gallery2 via one of its built-in modules. incidentally that module is also incorporated at coolercrew, but not yet enabled (but will be in good time).
Better yet just hit the "bookmark" button on the post and it keeps a shortcut to it in your message center. Just go to your "message center" link thats down by the read new button and you can find the link anytime you want it.
Just went by Sonic for the 2nd time this week. I know they didin't want any more traffic on Suburban Ave and had it zoned that way. They made an exeption for Sonic. (someone got paid off probly)
Any hoot, they had a traffic cop out there both days (all week maybe?) directing traffic.
I wonder how much thats costing the city? I'll bet they're really happy now.
Whatever happened to Maid-Rite in Minnesota? They make awesome loose-meat hamburger sandwiches. They give you a burger wrapped up in paper and a plastic fork to finish it off.
Years ago there was quite a few Maid-Rites; I think St. Cloud had two of them in the early 90's. The only Maid Rite I know of now is at a truck stop between Des Moines and Omaha. Anyone know of a local place?
Every year, Minnesota State Fair food officials try to sort out what's novel, what's tasty and what's just plain crazy. Plus, they get to see what else people can stuff on a stick.
Fairgoers will taste the results come August with such new items as Pig Lickers, Pickle Pops and something called Big Fat Bacon.
At first, a few fair officials hesitated to present anything called Pig Lickers, whose name was thought up by a Tennessee chef. And did it have the right fixin's?
"I think most people like chocolate and most people like bacon, but ... I don't know that we've ever put the two together," said Fair license administration manager Dennis Larson, who has the final say on Fair food.
Charlie Torgerson, co-owner of several Famous Dave's franchises, said he got the idea when he saw a Chicago chocolatier making Easter bunnies with bacon bits mixed in.
His technique: Cook off some bacon half-strips, dip 'em in chocolate and cover them with sea salt.
"Everybody likes bacon, chocolate, salt, put 'em all together and what do you got? Pig licker. It's the best meat out there," Torgerson said.
This from the guy who gave us the "Kool-Aid pickle on a stick": a pickle soaked in black cherry Kool Aid.
Speaking of pickles, longtime Fair vendor Preferred Pickle — which gave the Fair the deep-fried, beer-battered pickle — will now offer Pickle Pops: pickle juice frozen in a push-up sleeve. http://www.bobspicklepops.com/index.htm
"Definitely good on a cool day. Some schools use
it as a healthy snack," co-owner David Finger said. He didn't know which schools exactly, but that's what the manufacturer told him.
"It's not the brine — they take the pickle itself and juice it. ... They're good. They taste like a pickle."
Finally, there's Big Fat Bacon, which requires some description. The vendor, also called "Big Fat Bacon," used to be called Pita Gourmet a whole ideology ago.
Now, said Fair officials, their new creation is "one-third pound of bacon, fried and caramelized with maple syrup and served on a stick."
"What we found is that not enough people are interested in health food at the Fair. That's the day you say, 'I'm going off my diet,' " said Amanda Abdo Fheahan, whose family will run the Big Fat Bacon booth.
"We wanted to find something that is compatible with what today's fairgoer is looking for. ... It's a big old hunk of bacon."
It will come with a couple of sauces, too.
Larson said he's stopped trying to guess which ones will make it past year one.
"Will it be a flash in the pan? A one-trick pony? Will it have legs? ... The deep-fried candy bar, I thought that would have become just a novelty — way too much of a good thing. I was wrong there."
Other new Fair food includes Tater Tots on a stick, Norwegian-style cheese curds (with Lingonberry sauce) and Leprechaun Legs (deep-fried green beans ).
Brown writes, "Make up a jar and keep them on your counter or, better yet, in your fridge. I promise that unless you live in the Delta, you'll be the first in your neighborhood to serve them. Strange though they are, these bright pink beauties are extraordinarily refreshing on a hot summer day."
1 gallon jar kosher dill pickles
1 package unsweetened cherry Kool-Aid
1 pound sugar
Drain the liquid from the pickles into a large container. Add the Kool-Aid mix and the sugar to the liquid and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the pickles from the jar. Slice them in half lengthwise, and return them to the jar. Return the liquid to the jar of pickles. Not all the liquid will fit, but make sure the pickles are completely covered. Place in the refrigerator.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Had a nice day with lots of family.
My computer died so I haven't been here for a week or so. I'm in Zumbrota for Covered Wagon Days right now and am using my daughter's computer. Brought my computer down here for my son-in-law to fix.
We went to the 5-8 Tavern on Minnehaha and McKnight last night to eat. I had the Saucy Sally burger. Man was that good! Of course I havn't had a burger in over a year, but still! It's the little sister to the Juicy Lucy. One of the best burgers I've ever had. You should try 'em!
mikey let me know what other bad links you found there.
ares, I like the new site. I've been thinking of setting up drupal on my website. Mambo just seems too convoluted.

Any hoot, they had a traffic cop out there both days (all week maybe?) directing traffic.

Meh, the fad will die off soon enough and it'll just be a normal place to go eat at. I hope anyway.
the closest one, outside of MN is in Fort Dodge, Iowa
Years ago there was quite a few Maid-Rites; I think St. Cloud had two of them in the early 90's. The only Maid Rite I know of now is at a truck stop between Des Moines and Omaha. Anyone know of a local place?

Never Mind: Answered my own question:
 Maid Rite Locations List
Apparently they are all over Iowa, but don't see a single MN location.
Anyone want to start a franchise?
did a yellow pages search... called the number listed for St. Cloud.... the manager guy said that only 3 exist in MN...
them, and theres one in Brainerd, and one in Bemidji...
